We had a slower and smaller economy, combined with really bad wealth inequality. The things most of the commonfolk had simply don't get dug up because they just didn't have it.
Ok.. so I am seeing all these images of grand columns and beautiful underground spaces...... and these are being shared as though THAT is what is underneath St SLouis.... (and Kansas)... but this news story is weaselly .. those are images of cisterns probably in Rome or Europe!.. NOT St Louis... Bad click bait.
There are underground buildings like that all over the world. It was the civilization that got flooded. It was absolutely in St. Louis. Many of those buildings were so tall, that the upper portions are used today, with the bottom portions covered in the mud flood. You probably have those old buildings in your city, that you've overlooked.
I'm 46...and we had one them growing up... remember using out houses too..back in late70's through mid 80's👍those were the days...party line telephones,no computers...hell yeah
A friend of mine in high-school got into a lot of trouble with his mom by calling the paid party lines. He racked up thousands by the time the bill came...lol. I believe his mom got most of it removed since he was under age.
I just retired from a career of cultural resource survey. I have seen thousands of these brick-lined cisterns. Indeed, I have one next to my house with a shallow well drilled at the bottom. Cistern and well still very much in use.
That's strange because on McCausland years ago right past Manchester where the Big lots is in Walgreens the street sink and cars fell down into it I'm not sure how long the street was closed but I remember it back before the 2000s
and while those are definitely nice bottles.. those are very common in places like this.. folks uncover those things all the time.. it isn't like Gold or anything.
I grew up near Manchester & McCausland & that’s not dog town. Dog town is up on the other end of McCausland by Forest park. Lived in a 4 family flat just north of McCausland & Plateau & there was a cave entrance across the alley behind the flat. The entrance was closed with concrete. Don’t know if it’s still published but there used to be a book that showed the location & history of the caves & mines in STL. Always heard that Dewey school was sitting over an old mine.
@@rustyshackleford6637 I know exactly where Bruno is, did you live on the StL end or Maplewood end? We moved to Mitchell place when I was 9 & lived there until 1966 when I went in the service.
Ooh! I always wondered if the cistern under my room which has been filled in with dirt has a hidden secret based on some dreams I had! Like I had a dream that there is a hidden tunnel with a cover or hatch to get into mines and a crypt?? I live right next to a church! Talk about creepy lol.... Also there is a good chance since limestone is everywhere here in New Oxford there may be a powerful hidden secret here at least 30 ft under the ground from those visions I had! I always wondered why has a lot of this history is destroyed and covered over! I absolutely despise this destruction of history. I mean it's below the basment line! incorperate it into the design! Now its buried for another 40 years or more lol.... 😳😱
Click Bait That ain't a tunnel. And where is the mine shaft that was mentioned? Didn't even bother to show that. I bet there are lots more bottles, history, and other treasure but will these idiots run a metal detector around? Probably not.
"Look, I've found some valuable, old bottles and I'm going to save 'em! Now, let's destroy this awesome, old cistern and put up a modern shit house, after we knocked down that old, 'couldn't be saved' house' !"
Funny it’s called dog town. I am looking into limestone formations and why “dogman” sightings are near by always. Well this lead me here wtf 😂 that’s the universe telling me I’m on the right path. FEEL IT!!!
Nice discovery, but the why you would you compare that brick structure to those in the pictures is a bit baffling. Click bait all the way.
Yep, I thumbs downed, way down.
Exactly
In the 1800s, the inside of their water tank was more decorative than most things today.
We had a slower and smaller economy, combined with really bad wealth inequality. The things most of the commonfolk had simply don't get dug up because they just didn't have it.
Perhaps the truth is that they say it was a water storage area, but it was not?
@@flatman Entirely possible.
Never forget what the elites took from us. Demoralized architecture
@whatsboredom9133 You freely gave it away.
I know frustrating for budgets and schedules but I Love hearing about these finds in my hometown. 😊👍

Grew up in St Louis, lived there 40 years many wonderful memories, Sorry to say i wouldn't want to live there ever again
I found a cistern under my house. I dug it out and found bottles and bits of pottery like the ones in this cistern.

@@rustyshackleford6637 small world. So did you go to Roe School?
I know of at least 2 cisterns in old town st. Charles that are still functioning but not used
Hey history. Let's destroy it.
St Louis deserves every ounce of ridicule they get. The barbarians acted better.
We already have.
It's messed up how they destroy all the incredible things that get dug up....atleast it was explored for a bit and he got to keep a few things found
It was just a dirt hole. Those pictures were just for example...
its just a damn dirt hole WTF
Ain't no giants in there 😂😂 how you sleep at night
Love how they are just RIPPING it out.
If you live in an older City, you never know what's under your feet!
This is great story for those that don't think the US has much history.
😧😧😧😧Wow. The history can't be hidden forever.
My parents old house is 3643 Iowa. Had a sister near the back porch. You can see the outline through the hallway going outside from the basement
Had a sister near the porch? Think you meant cistern.
one thing you do not want to find a gate to you know where truth
Any home can be saved.
Don't bother.
Clickbait.
The cistern is smaller than a car.
very bad click bait, pictures shown are not from the real discovery here
Kind of like Ghost Whisper check the old maps of the city who knows what you will find underneath truth
Misleading pictures just to "make" a story....................
... Hey look, an old cistern ! Oh 'well' ... 😂
You found an old pit toilet close To an old Cistern. 😮
A mine? So what was mined there?
We found an old septic tank. Oh well let’s call it a cistern and show Roman images!
T my parents old home at 3643 Iowa . Had a old Cistern aling the exit to the outside.
THAT cistern was probably MUCH OLDER than the late 1800s.
IF the early American settlers dug it, I would date it as far back as the mid 1700s!
I don't think anyone was spending this much time building in 1750 STL.
Very Good!..

Then I see this video and it slams my mind seeing those two words together Cistern and mines close by! Aye! Creepy indeed
Ya and after they built it they put 20 feet of dirt on too to never use again. That is older than usa

ah well, when you demolish the historic cistern all you need to do is dump the rubble down the historic mine shaft! et voila! problem solved!
That is not located in Dogtown nor South St. Louis.
I wonder if dogman are
