    Still looks almost the same as it did back in the 80’s. Pearl is a beautiful port! The Carriers berth right in front of the mountains. I always wanted to be home ported there instead of San Diego! (Rough choice...I know 😎).

      I was at Pearl from 1970-72. You know Viet Nam. This nothing like now. We had couple of carriers a lot of tin cans. 6 maybe attack subs plus all of the support ships. You could almost compare the harbor to the flight deck on a carrier. I got to see official pictures of the Enterprise after her fire. Not a pretty sight. The boss had a couple in his office. COMSUPBAC was a 3 star billet now its down to 2 stars. And they are taking part of pacflts responsibilities and moving to a new command. FLEET FORCES. WHAT THE HELL.

    It would make significantly more sense, from a Military Readiness Perspective, to BACK the ships into dock [like the one on the far left from 1:30 to 3:30] .. in an emergency [a second Pearl Harbor Attack] the Captain could call emergency quarters, fire up the LM2500 Engines, toss off the lines, and get the hell out of the Harbor without having to wait on two tugs to back them away from the dock ..

    • @dundonrl
      @dundonrl ปีที่แล้ว

      With a good Conning Officer you don't need tugs to get a modern Burke or Tico away from the pier. They are helpful but not required!

      Harbour is the correct spelling of harbor.. just like colour, armour - color, armor... just depends on what country you live in and what version of the English language you speak. That said I'm Canadian so Harbour to me is correct literally except in this case it is used as a noun, a place name so should be 'Pearl Harbor' the US way just to be geographically proper.

    • @EricK-mj7kr

      The word originated from the proper English language.
      Yes, it is Harbour, Armour, Colour, Z pronounced as Zack instead of Zee etc..I had the opportunity to learn both versions (thank you microsoft windows spell check!)
      Then again, respect is given to the geographical name of Pearl Harbor.

      Most carriers of the 7th fleet are now stationed in Japan due to the current scenario happening there...better to have them close by just in case......3 carriers were normally stationed there and yes planes off loaded at sea and were maintained at the Naval air station.....but as they say times change.......but many carriers do still go here for repairs and some R&R

Needs to have help with tugboats pushing them backwards till they turn them around to pull out of the port! Why aren't they helping them back in to port/ dock the ships? Because in an emergency or war! There going to have to get out of port fast!
