  • Mending the power chord of a Shark Iron. Need a T-10 security screw driver or driver bit and a Philips screw driver, a pair of wire peeler pliers or a knife and electrical tape. You might want to consider soldering the wires where you joint them for more strength. Use caution when working with electric appliances and disconnect it from the power outlet before starting any work.

    Some of the Shark iron has 4 screws Two on the top visible and other two on the bottom you cannot see but you can see elevated rubber spots which can be removed so you can see the bottom screws Thus you can fix it
    I learn hard way, I attempted to pull the bottom with screw drivers which made one screw metal place sitting broken and other round plastic broken but I used superglue to fix both side So be careful ! And I changed the all those screws with phillips head so next time it will be easier to open and fix it. Thanks for this guy at least show us how to do it. Thank God for it.

    Great job. One suggestion: at the end of the project when you put the cord’s “c-clamp” back in place with two sets screws -put a small piece of a rubber band or adhesive mounting tape inside that “c-clamp” so it grabs the electrical cord but it also gives cushion to the cord. This way you won’t repeat the previous problem, which is “crimping” the cord and fraying the wires inside. Just an idea

    You said this might not be the right way to fix this... You are correct. At a minimum cut the cord and install 2 new lugs. The problem with splices is that they often fail creating a fire hazard. Especially in an appliance that is drawing up to 1800 watts. Thanks for the tip on the torx screws. I got this exact iron today (for free) in almost new condition with what appears to be the same problem. Shark's use of the word "Professional" is laughable.

      I've used mine since 2016, no problems. Until recently, when the constant steam stopped working. Button still does the trick. Anyway. Very happy with mine.

      "Made in China" on the label. That tells you all you need to know.

    I followed your instructions and took out the cord and shortened the cord then connected it back up. It worked prior to putting the plate back on. But once the plate went back on it quit working. Twice I took it apart got it working yet when I put the plate on it will not work. Any idea why?

    • @SALGUCO
      @SALGUCO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No idea why, but since you said it happens after you put back the cover plate, I would suspect the plate pushes against something, causing the issue.... maybe even the soldering broken off the board. I don't have that iron anymore, so I cannot get into it for a better look and possible suggestions on what to look for. I would probably open it again and , with a piece of plastic, power on, push where the plate touches when put back in place. But that's me....... sorry for not being able to help.

      @@SALGUCO thanks I will look at it closer. I think maybe the cord is just brittle and its breaking when I put that clamp back on to hold the cord.
      The other possibility is that I didn't keep the connectors on the ends of the cord so they might be causing issues. I am going to get another set of connectors and try once again.

    • @SASilljer
      @SASilljer ปีที่แล้ว

      Well again you were right its in the board. I redid the connectors then plugged it in, I wiggled the cord and it cut off but it wasn't the cord itself. Is there a way to tell what connection is bad on the circuit board? Or should I try to get another circuit board? It sucks I cannot get this working.

    • @SALGUCO
      @SALGUCO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @SASilljer Honestly, I would simply just get a new iron... unless you are willing to go through all the trouble..... in that case, I would remove the board and find the broken weld and reweld it. If you have the equipment and the will, why not? Now, is it worth it? Best of luck!

      No, unfortunately no! I sold it some time after this video. The power cord was the only issue I ever had with it.

      Didn't try.....I would've probably assembled one with parts from a hardware store. ...maybe try Amazon, Ebay. SEARS parts direct. Good luck!
