i wanted the lads to get the painting job done and go into business together painting and decorating. Confidence and foresight need nurturing and are not in great supply in certain environments. You paint a picture i recognise Mr. Leigh. I could feel some growing and understanding in the characters in the play.

Important to note Leigh himself is a feminist (the man made Vera Drake for god's sake) and as he notes, he's talking about a very particular, antique form of feminist.
