I have had to of these. 4 banger, manual with a regular cab and an extended cab. Easy, honest workhorses. Never a problem. I wish they would still make them. $ 11,000+, new out of the showroom!!! No bling bling, no overweight. And fixable at any workshop around the corner! No wonder used Rangers sell for around 10grand in superb condition.
I had an 03 Ranger Single cab Edge with 3.0L V6 and 5-Speed manual transmission for a few years. That 3.0L was gutless even in that lightweight little truck, but the 5-Speed made it more fun to drive than it had any right to be, a 4.0L with the 5-Speed would have been a blast. I drive a 5.0L Coyote F-150 these days and it feels like a top fuel dragster by comparison to that old 3.0L V6 lol.
In 2022, We're now farther in time from when this was introduced than this truck was from the late 1970s, when Ford became the best seller in pickup trucks.
I'm still daily driving a 98 4x4 4.0 5 speed ranger with 200k+ and climbing still has the factory clutch in it! The secret to a 4.0 living beyond 150k is good synthetic oil! Amsoil or mobil 1
@@2H2521 I see you made a poor decision and bought the shitty old one huh? It is factually known the 2011 specifically is the absolute best version of the Ranger you can buy in that generation and what you are trying to do is what is called "cope".
I had a 99 mazda b2500 for 4 years and hauled 1580lbs in the bed and it always went down the highway fine and always stood right back once unloaded..it also did it with over 200k miles on it
I had a 2000 ford ranger with the 3.0 automatic. I had to retire it a year ago. The 3.0 was an ok engine, but I heard the 4.0 automatic had alot more issues, but if I had a choice and the money, the Tacoma. As those Rangers get older, the money pit gets deeper.
@@charliekk3377 - Ummm... the 4.0 SOHC had a timing chain on the rear of the motor, requiring the whole motor to be pulled to replace the chain and miserable plastic guides. That sounds like a problem. A big one. It's a gamble, they don't all fail, but to me it's worth it for the extra nearly 50 HP. These are heavy pickups.
I just bought a 98 ranger xlt with 165000 miles the previous owner didn’t drove it for 7 years I love my lil truck they don’t make them like that anymore
@@mitch9521 I know the 4.0 was changed between the 4.0 In the exploder and ranger..everyone I know that has ever owned a ranger all say that the 3.0 was much better then the 4.0 v6 the 4.0 made more power but it had a lot of problems the 3.0 as long as the timing chain was replaced when needed it would run great
@@jdubskiwright2380 Yeah no, I had a 2011 Ranger with the 4.0, I wouldn't use a 3blow as a boat anchor. If you need to replace the timing chain AT ALL in an engine, its a piece of shit. Its not like a timing belt where they require changing at service intervals. But hey, no such thing as a good domestic now is there? Buy quality, buy Toyota. :)
Yes electric vehicles were around from back in the 90's, and they could drive around town just fine, I'm not sure if they could go as fast as highway speeds.

Hace 2 semanas me compré una hermosa Ford Ranger modelo 1996, cabina extendida (como la roja que sale en la foto del video) es un 4.0 V6 Americana, realmente es una verdadera hermosura la camioneta, un estupendo andar,comoda y práctica. A comparación de la Ranger 3.0 turbo diesel intercooler 07 tiene un andar mucho mejor y sus asientos eran incómodos pero la de la vieja es mucho más mullido y confortable.. Su andar es suave y menos dura que la 07.. Amo a mi Ranger, mi nueva bebota ❤❤.. Gracias Ford..

Worth about half as much as a Toyota Tacoma from the same year. Much less horsepower too. Looks boxy, interior is plain and boring. Lame seats, overdesigned rear cab seating, uninspired.
I disagree. Rangers held up fine compared to a tacoma and are a much better value imo. MIne is a 1998 with the 4.0 OHV with a 5r55e auto and 4x4. Biggest issue is the hub lockers but you can switch them to manual hubs for pretty cheap. The 4.0 was a good engine until they introduced the sohc version in 2001 or so which had timing chain issues where you had to pull the engine. But pre-2000 the ohv was indestructibe. Like any ford you have to get the right year with the right engine/trans.
That dashboard design was the best of any car out there! Still looks great all these years later!
I sold tons on these in late 97 to 98 at drew ford in San diego.. everyone wanted the 4.0 with thr 5speed manual

the 4.0 OHV apparently had some issues. The 4.0 SOHC i had that engine in a 2004 ranger with the 5spd auto and had no issues with it
