- A breakdown of The Octopus Guard & Half Octopus Guard, focusing on its use in MMA Grappling & Jiu-Jitsu. Eduardo Telles laid the groundwork for this interesting guard, that has been used by Khabib, Michael Bisping & BJ Penn and has worked against the legendary GSP on multiple occasions.
Although submission options do exist from the octopus guard, the main options that it has been used for are taking the back, sweeping and standing back up.
With wrestling up becoming more common in jiu-jitsu, the octopus guard may also see its application useful there as it can provide an entry into what Craig Jones has been calling "false half guard".
