I have 2 of these B36-7s, both Santa Fe, one freight bonnet, and 1 Kodachrome, and they are fantastic, probably my favorite feature is the stratolite beacon, which used 4 individual leds that flash in a pattern just like the real ones do, it is just amazing to watch in the dark! Your FIRST Rapido!!!???, Well welcome to the club!! It's about time!...LOL. Besides Scale Trains, Rapido is on par with them. The engines work flawlessly and Rapido has an awesome warranty. They even will take stuff back if you accidently damage it and repair it the best they can, within reason. Bad motor, bad decoder, no problem, they fix it no questions asked. they are in Toronto Ontario, so close to me and I have personally met a few of the guys. You can get some replacement parts if they are available. Just a great manufacturer. They have ESU decoders, the same as Scale Trains and if you have the ESU programmer, you can do great programing because they are writable decoders. I have several SW1200 RS's and GMD-1. My son is part of a train club that he speed matches the engines and we have had some nice testing of latest runs of engines and they are just the cats meow. Enjoy your new love in life!!! Cheers! Some sounds , like the flange/ brake squeal don't activate until the unit is moving. There should also be break or break hold F13 and also engine break or train break F12. Read more into the functions. you also may hear break release from the air chambers too. Earl
Elvas. One thing that you may not know is that the couplers are NOT Kaydee couplers. They are Rapido's variant and are just slightly different. Along with engines we also have a bunch of different Rapido rolling stock and we tried to keep an open mind on their couplers but they just don't work reliably as what Kaydee does. Rapido recently stopped painting their couplers, probably due to complaints that the foul when painted. Regardless of the manufacturer, we always change out to Kaydee couplers, this keeps everything working together. This is our personal view but I'm sure other modelers would agree. Cheers! Earl
