I 've done the 500 in a 71 2 wheel drive chevy, a 4x4 85 Blazer and my 78 4x4 GMC. The 78 GMC I modified the firewall lip near the brake booster a little because I kept the transmission in the factory location. They all were pretty straight forward. I used stock manifolds and stock big block radiator. I use the Caddy PS pump and cooler. The brake booster has plenty of room. I did the mounts a little different in each one, but all used the 1 bolt Caddy mount and I modified and moved the front crossmember mounts on the 4x4 trucks. I kept a spare factory crossmember and mount plates in case I ever wanted to go back to stock, but I never will. The 4x4 trucks did about 12 to 14 MPG with a stock motor.
I'm currently swapping a 73ish 472/TH400 long tail into a 77 Monte Carlo. I bought the El Dorado oil Pan, engine mount adapter plates and Sanderson headers designed to fit this Cadillac engine into a GM A body. All of that should make it fit like a glove. But it doesn't, I just spent this weekend trying to get everything to fit, headers designed to fit are touching the steering shaft on left and hitting control arm on the right. That's with using the adapter plates which makes the engine sit forward in the cradle somewhat. I'm writing this because this video made me realize I have those exact 425 engine mounts that came with my 472 but I took them Off because I didnt know what they were and I couldn't use them. But after struggling to get this to fit I'm thinking I might need to revisit that idea and shove the engine back and maybe my "application specific" headers might fit better. That's just one of the many swap issues I discovered this weekend. The heater hose thing will need a solution. Also need a better transmission cross member.
