After this video I put the peep up by about 1.5 cm then it was possible to use the new sight. However I still think that manufacturers should offer more holes so that archers dont have to keep the peep so high. With my smaller head I would prefer to have the peep a little more down. Great option for someone who doesn’t wanna spend a arm and a leg with compound bow. I would like to see you doing a video about how choose the right arrows for a bow. By the way where did you get the arrows use on this video?
After watching this video I got this bow for Christmas as my first ever compound bow. I have to say that apart from the cheap plastic bow rest (which I have replaced with a whisker biscuit rest) it is a very well made, powerful and accurate bow. Thanks Survival Lilly for reviewing it so comprehensively.

Lilly that's a cool bow, that cable will last for years of shooting you only have to replace the string in between the hooks, I grew up with a bow like that.
That was just like the old school bows i used in the 90's. The thing about the finger release and the old beast pins is that they are almost bomb proof. Wow, you impress me, I tried hunting with a Yew long war-bow, I had to hold 120Lbs at full draw, no time to aim, it was all instinctive, but talk about penetration and range. A longbow is a real man's bow as for the Turkish Bow, now I have to find one, I am keen to shoot one. Any readers in Western Australia with a Turkish Bow I can knock a few shots out of?
Great video! First Blood part 2 is my favorite archery movie! I bought the American version of this bow from Amazon, a few years ago. I ended up returning it and getting a Samick Sage. Have preferred recurves, since.
Hi Lilly. I’ve been shooting the same bow since March and I love it. I target shoot with mine and fitted a recurve target sight which works great but no good if you want multiple pins of course. My bow became a little rough on the draw after a while so I changed the cable slider for a Limbsaver teflon slider which works brilliant and separates the cables to. I think your nocks may be set for recurve so you may need to rotate them so the fletchings clear the rest. Enjoy the bow, I think you’ll really like it.
I have my original Hoyt Easton bow i got back in the 80s ,still shoot it .I'm left handed and have it set at 50lbs still shoots great. Every where I go it gets a lot of attention by the Rambo fans glad to see you are one!!😃👍
I have the same bow and I love it. We have both added the exact same attachments as well. I love your videos and value the knowledge and reviews you share
Hoyt actually made the "Rambo" model in the mid 80's. lots of people still shot them with releases. Avg bow length back then was 44+inches axle to axle..
The wheel/ cable system on that bow is exactly the same as the old Bear Black Bear hunter which I have used for over 20 years. In my opinion, it is superior to more modern bows which are far too complicated. I don't think you'll regret your purchase.
Good episode 😊 OK, I've been fooling with wheel bows for a while now. All the things you are going through are common to tuning a wheel bow. Generally you can back the limb bolts out either 5 or 6 turns, max. I put a paint dot on the bolt head and one on the limb to keep track of rotation. At least you can adjust your own wheel bows. Modern elliptical cam bows are harder to work on ... That cable will last 25 years if kept clean and out of water (rain & fog OK if dried off after use). The string is the "wear item". I'm with you. I like to use a similar anchor for all my bows, therefor, for sights I like to use TruGlow or Apex round mount sights. With these you can rotate the "arm" in the mount. You can go up to 45* up to 45* down. So that is maybe 75mm vertical adjustment, before you start moving your pins. So instead of using string to tie your hose to the riser, just tie the hose around one of the cables. The hose is long enough for that. If you want a lighter version of a wheel bow, try an older Bear brand bow. Their risers are made from magnesium, so much lighter. You can buy a used one off eBay for
Lilly I know you may not believe but I’ve watched some of your archery videos after deciding I wanted to get into archery, I recently quit watching your watching your videos because I purchased a bow, but I felt God tell me to tell you he loves you and hope you come back to him!!❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️
4 turns out from tight is 30 lbs. The slots are the draw length. I bought that bow loaded with everything and great sights (the one u don't like) for $202 Canadian dollars. It's an excellent bow for the money. It's make is called SAS the one I have but it's the same bow!! I love it with a D-ring and trigger. It's great!! The cable is steel it won't brake for a long time and you only have to replace a Short bow string.. it's very accurate at 100 ft and very powerful, passes half the 30" arrow through a 5" thick straw target.. I love it!! Only thing I don't like is the peep sight it never is perfectly straight. I put a yellow dot on the bow string with paint and it's perfectly lined up with the center of the sight u don't use.. it's well well with the money..
I just bought one. I have not shot a bow in over 30 years and wanted to get into it again and found your page. Thanks Lilly.. I am learning everything from you!!
Lilly, It's a retro bow like Fred Bear made. There is a site 3rivers Archery in the states that have parts and everything else. Realizing that you have some limitations, I see pushs ups, hanging off a bar and other exercises in your future.
Hi Lilly, I've just bought the EK Archery version of this bow, though sadly it doesnt have adjustable cams... ☹ Thanks for the review, there were virtually zero instructions supplied, so your video has been very helpful! 👍 It only cost £85 for a 55lb left handed model, and I bought this with the intention of making a home built left handed version of the Fenris and hopefully it will be suitable..., total cost should be less than £250, rather than £1000😉
Lovely Channel. its refreshing listening to you compared to a lot of the other archery / hunting channels which are sometimes daunting for a beginner. Also, of course, Joerg Sprave is an internet legend. Great work !!
That demo ranch mad lad took 2 different magnum pistol casings, filled them with tannerite and slipped 1 over the other on the end of crossbow bolt and shot it. Doesn't do much more than make a loud concussion but still pretty sweet.
@@oldmanx1234 it doesn't look that hard to me, except you make your explosives yourself. The system could work for instance with a large caliber round that had been fired and you replace the primer. There are kits for refilling rounds in the USA AFAIK. Then you'd need to glue a tube slightly larger than the arrow shaft next to the primer. For stability reasons it would be best to have it flush with the casing and put a band over both. On one side, you'd need to insert an arrow shaft with a short striker and it should fit snuggly so that it needs quite an impact to push the striker into the primer, else it would explode during launch due to inertia... The other end would need to be filled with a high explosive and sealed. That's it. However, since the brass is heavy, cutting it down and replacing it with plastic and ideally a 3d printed aerodynamic shape would be highly recommended. However, in that case, the plastic needs to be somewhat impact resistant. BTW: if you're a crazy MoFo, you could simply use something like nitroglycerin or tetrameric acetonperoxide without any trigger system... It would not be 100% reliable and definitely not safe, but kids have done that before even without blowing themselves up, at least the smarter ones...
I made a few experiments with explosive arrow tips. I used a tiny handmade ETN hollow charge tip I made myself. It penetrated 2,5cm of Aluminium very easily. I never tested it on steel, however.
Hi Lilly, If you de power a bow by loosening the screws it would be safer to put a few washers behind the limbs and tighten the screws down on the washers. Your bow tuning is great!
As for the bowsight if you remove it from the bracket, and flip the bracket upside down and remount it, it gives a different amount of distance and that should work for you. You can also adjust your peepsight up and down to give more or less also

That gold explosive broadhead that he used was actually a razorback broadhead with it's protective cover still on. All they did to it was paint it gold!
I was looking at the same bow on Amazon from Southland Archery Supplies. I grew up on Rambo too but I'm not a huge fan of the black finish of this model. I am going to get the get the Autumn Camo it's a really nice finish. I plan finger shooting with it mostly so I will use the traditional pin sites and whisker biscuit with a knocking point but I will add a d-loop with peep site, stabilizer and wrist loop that way I can shoot anyway I want and get in the compound game cheap. Whether it's target shooting or hunting. P.S. Just buy a spare bow from Amazon for parts if you need them. It doesn't cost that much.
I have a MK55 bow, the cable is soldered together it lasted 2 weeks before it failed, not having a bow press it cost the price of the bow to replace the cable, it is a fun bow, just don’t over draw it.
The cable on that bow is unlikely to break because it's made of steel with a plastic covering. The breakable part is the part with the serving, which is designed to be easily changed...
You will like that though they shoot real well and it has respectable aerospeed probably maybe around 200 to also around maybe even 240 if you're lucky you will have to shoot an aluminum Arrow or a carbide Arrow
I have the exact same set up and the 5 pin sight and biscuit combo does work when you adjust the yard pins and have the sight on lowest setting on the same bolt holes, no need to drill. Love this vid helped me a lot with this model other wise. Keep up the good work.
Hi Lilly I watch your survival vids I'm impressed that you know so much about the deep woods skills that people don't have no clue about your knowledge is great you know 100% more than my goofy friends .awesome job on the bow takin apart and putting it back together again
Now that's a review!!! Straight to the point, easy to follow and understand, and still be amazed in the knowledge and skill this woman has! I have never shoot a bow, interested yes, so I watched these videos, and after so many, this blew me away! WOW!! Great job and thank you!! (Donkey Field Mouse) Say it fast enough it will make sense, if you speak German
Lilly did you say the peep sight comes with the bow as well as the sight attachment? Thanks for the great video. You are very knowledgeable about bows and I love that you share that information with us.
Hi Lilly. Great video. You can make an aluminum adaptor plate to shift your new sight down. 4 holes. Flat head screws to screw adaptor to bow then tap two holes in adaptor for sight screws.
Looks much like my Bear Black Bear that I used in the 80’s-90’s. Used Aluminum 2217 arrows, same pin sights, but I did used a trigger release. Still have that bow, but it’s retired.
Lilly when you shoot from a short distance you use your bottom pin, because the arrow has not had a chance to rise after shooting it. I suggest you put the other sight back on and go outside and shoot from a farther distance. You probably won't have to drill any new holes and the sight will work ok.
Great video. I went compound with sights stablizers the works got pretty good. One day just decided to shoot my longbow I was surprised I had got really good at judging distance and having a repeatable draw cycle. I now shoot traditional all the time but I put my year using a compound made me a better archer.
You have a fair knowledge of archery. Very entertaining. T'was fun to see you TRYING to bend the bow. Guess it was out of range for you but you succeeded anyway. Thanks for your time.(M.G.' Quebec, Canada)
I had a bow like this when I was 10 it was the summer of 1970 it was a Fed bear white tail and I added a spool to it and used it to shoot red tail carp in the river
Slot the holes or put two new ones in the bracket where it mounts to the bow. Then you can lower it and add more pins. You do great job setting that bow up. Makes me want get one. I stay with the more traditional mandarin. Thanks to you!
Be careful with those bows that have the swaged strings. They require a heavier arrow than normal to prevent damage and the swage coming away causing injury. The reason these get a bad rep is because people started using lightweight carbon arrows which were not around when these were developed. There is a grains per pound rating given on the hoyt spetra which is the original rambo bow but cant remember it off hand. In the UK, archery ranges will not allow you to use a bow with swaged cables, something to bear in mind before purchase.
some archers remove the plastic or wood grip and shoot with out it, because thick grips lead to erratic shooting, with more hand on the grip, there is a greater tendency to twist, or torque the riser.
Just like when you fire a rifle using a scope, very close shots also require you to increase the number of clicks on the turret, but you don't need all those clicks at longer distances.
I just purchased a pawn store Hoyt bow very similar to the Rambo bow. It is fun to shoot and pretty good looking. Thanks for showing how to reduce the draw pressure on the string. I can pull it full strength, but I prefer a little give to I have a better feel for it. I like your Rambo bow, it looks bad to the bone! Big Rambo, and Stallone fan! You truly have to be John Rambo to pull the string.
Lilly. To compensate for the modern site that's off try playing a little with the position of your peep site. You should be able to put the modern site on without too mush hassle . You don't have to move it by much, combine this with moving your knocking point and arrow rest you can always re-paper tune the bow.
I think RAMBO would be happy to have such a fine weapon. I think he actually forged his bow in the fiery forges located inside the volcanos of Mordor. But that may just be rumor.
After this video I put the peep up by about 1.5 cm then it was possible to use the new sight. However I still think that manufacturers should offer more holes so that archers dont have to keep the peep so high. With my smaller head I would prefer to have the peep a little more down.

nice set up. 1) You can use this sight - just use dif wholes ( make it longer ) the aiming point will be different and will help with your accuracy
Lilly first blood: they drew first blood not her!
I've found a new handle: Rambow Harvest lol
*Recycle triangle has a code number in it that can be referenced to type of material.....
I’m a fan too of the First Blood Movies, the survival skills shot in the film are incredible.
I love your videos.
I am fan of clint
Now that's a review!!! Straight to the point, easy to follow and understand, and still be amazed in the knowledge and skill this woman has! I have never shoot a bow, interested yes, so I watched these videos, and after so many, this blew me away! WOW!! Great job and thank you!! (Donkey Field Mouse) Say it fast enough it will make sense, if you speak German
Love the LIDL needle nose pliers! I have a pair of those too!
Such a great video. I really learned a lot.
Lilly did you say the peep sight comes with the bow as well as the sight attachment? Thanks for the great video. You are very knowledgeable about bows and I love that you share that information with us.
It was interesting to see how you are tuning the bow by shooting through paper. Learned something new.
Thanks for the great video Lilly, you are lovely, greetings from Australia.
Always enjoy your videos
A follow up video of Lilly playing Rambo in the woods with her new bow is required.
Good vid can’t wait till next one
Lilly when you shoot from a short distance you use your bottom pin, because the arrow has not had a chance to rise after shooting it. I suggest you put the other sight back on and go outside and shoot from a farther distance. You probably won't have to drill any new holes and the sight will work ok.
I doubt that arrows will rise on a bow which is centershot.
Great video. I went compound with sights stablizers the works got pretty good. One day just decided to shoot my longbow I was surprised I had got really good at judging distance and having a repeatable draw cycle. I now shoot traditional all the time but I put my year using a compound made me a better archer.
Lilly , I forgot to mention Valerian root for the shoulder. I've crashed my brains and body out a bunch. Hope it helps.
a lot of archery stuff lately. hows the tower going? also, you get even more awesome every video i watch. crazy.
Looks very similar to my 1990 Bear whitetail 2.
I love that thing and still shoot it often.
I was thinking that you could drill different holes for the modern sites and then you said that you would at the end of the video.
10:37 do you have tutorial to make that? The camera is focused on something else...
Aluminum is easy to drill and tap if you wanted to make your own holes to set the site
In the UK, archery ranges will not allow you to use a bow with swaged cables, something to bear in mind before purchase.
if i remember i think you can remove the ring and pins and attach to the pin frame that came with bow
Thanks for this interesting video. I enjoy your technical skills in the shop.
Looking at the current bow today, it seems they're offering it with the changes you've suggested and done to your bow. Thank you. You changed things.
some archers remove the plastic or wood grip and shoot with out it, because thick grips lead to erratic shooting, with more hand on the grip, there is a greater tendency to twist, or torque the riser.
ok but on this bow the grip was ok (imo)
It is worth purchasing and utilizing the bow. It really looks sturdy and foolproof in order to exploit in the long period.
You truly have to be John Rambo to pull the string.
used to watch your videos back in 2016-17 and recently came back. i see no difference, same old good quality content
Lilly. To compensate for the modern site that's off try playing a little with the position of your peep site. You should be able to put the modern site on without too mush hassle . You don't have to move it by much, combine this with moving your knocking point and arrow rest you can always re-paper tune the bow.
Ever consider trying JoergSprave's Instant Legolas on one of your bows?
Legolad was gay
Great video Lilly....
hi lilly. watching you from brazil. I just started at archery and your channel helped me a lot, thank you very much! and very nice bow! XD
Those cables will last sooooo long because of the low weight, great video
I think RAMBO would be happy to have such a fine weapon. I think he actually forged his bow in the fiery forges located inside the volcanos of Mordor. But that may just be rumor.
