I thought this was a great movie - I’ve been watching a bunch of old war movies (my favourite genre) and I really enjoyed the darker themes in this film. It portrays the duality these soldiers lived on a daily basis - the desire to survive, to defend your friends, to do the right thing, and the back and forth of fear and suspicion vs trusting your fellow soldiers. No one is fully equipped to deal with the terrifying realities of war and this movie really paints the chaos of split decision life and death scenarios that real and flawed human beings had to face. I highly recommend it!!! 👍👍
this was incredible, brutal and realistic as far as my knowledge goes. the way the captain dies... man I was shocked for a few minutes cause that whole sequence was super intense.
I kinda liked the movie, but the whole plot was just plain stupid and unrealistic . It’s obvious the writers and producers had never been in the military.
It never hit me before, but while this movie was portraying the Leutenant sunbathing and drinking, my uncle (Leo A. Dorsey) was walking the Japanese Death March on Bataan. After 3-1/2 years as a POW he was liberated. Although he had a family, and lived to his 80s, he never completely got over the trauma. Although we know it is happening, civilians seldom pause to think in that moment they are having fun, someone may be dying for that freedom.

Great movie, back in the early Eighties when i was about 11 yrs old my neibour Ted, who fought against the Japanese, he hated them with a vengeance however he never spoke to.me about the War but he did speak to my Dad about it only once a few months before he passed away from cancer. Bless him.My Dad said that Ted told him about a patrol Group that had gone missing they eventually found them days later tied up to the trees . And he said that the Japs had used them for Bayonet practice my Dad said you could see the hatred in his eyes when he told him ..
GREAT MOVIE, GREAT ACTING. I really liked Michael Cain in this movie, Cliff Robertson was also good in this movie.😉😁👍 Did I knod out and miss a few scenes that were EDITED OUT for some reason?!!! Well it's STILL A GREAT MOVIE in it's ORIGINAL UNEDITED VERSION. 🤨😲😮💨😓
Great movie. Soundtrack was difficult to obtain but managed to get a copy sometime ago and the finale with the 'zig zag' run back to camp under fire I use to motivate me towards the end of some races !
That was an incredibly great film .by 1:30:00 you really felt what it must have been like to be outnumbered and hunted.By all accounts the best war film I've ever seen since the Alamo.Great work.❤
Dunno if this was DPB's first upload or not, but it began a run that is dependable for excellence to this day, 7/6/2024! And Michael Caine is 91yrs as of this writing! Thanks, DPB and Mr Caine and Robertson for this very enjoyable film from 1970!
One of our friends was a CO during the Vietnam 🇻🇳 war. He joined the war but wouldn’t carry a gun. He was a medic, which actually was more dangerous than as if he had carried a gun. The medics wore special clothing and weren’t supposed to be fired on. However, sometimes that didn’t help and they were shot at anyway. When our friend got back he became one of our preachers and he’s still preaching. He was raised on a ranch so he knew all about riding and shooting. They always had some deer 🦌 meat 🥩 to eat. When he got back, he would never talk about the horrible things that he had seen. The terrible injuries that he had to fix up. However, I’m sure that it would have been harder for him to see the ones who were so badly wounded that there was nothing he could do to save their lives. However, now he’s preaching the gospel and saving lives a different way. With love ❤️.
My boss who was raised jehova witness and he qualified as conscientious objector during 'Nam. Anyway he ended up over there as a medical aide and still got his ass shot off in a helo by ground fire.

❤'d the film & the 2 main actors (Michael Caine & Cliff Robertson). As an X 95Bravo 10 (U.S. Army Military Police) I could relate to what they went through but I'm glad I never had to do anything like that. I'd have probably come back pretty messed up in the head if I had survived. Of course anything with Caine in it I'm going to Luv... no matter how good or bad. Loved him in Zulu, The Valley, Jigsaw, Eagle Has Landed, Fourth Protocol, one where he's older as a spy in St. Petersburg Roo-Land, Tinker Tailor Spy & in the last one were he gets his head blown up as the bad guy in 'Kingsmen'. Too many to name lol. ThnX 4-Upldng, always interested in war movies (all the way back to Crusaders and 900 A.D, 1200's, 1800's, 1920's --> 1990's). Have a nice safe day. 🌹

Our man, Mr Caine 🇬🇧💪 fought in the Korean war and got a medal💯 You also see near the end, one Sam Kidd who was from Northern Ireland, he was captured by the Japanese in WW2.. He got back to London, joined the film industry and was in more films than John Wayne!!! Sometimes being able to appear in 3 movies in one day🎬💪💯🇬🇧 Great cast all of them are worth looking up.. Now in today's WORLD LEST we forget 🙏🆘🇬🇧🗣️📢🇺🇸⚖️ WTF were theses men and women fighting for 😢🙏👁️☠️👁️😵🤬🤑😭 Edit- arh that's better 💯 Sorry you Karens ⚖️😀⁉️
2 days after his birthday, on Sep 11, 2001 Cliff Robertson was flying directly above WTC in NY. 1 day after his birthday, 10 years later He died on Sep 10, 2011. Like the WTC, he was cremated.
Never thought I'd be watching this again after more than 50 years! I actually thought it was earlier -'68 or '69, so am now a little confused about where I saw it! What I do remember is the intense colour, particularly the deep jungle greens and the jarring contrast they made with the drier, yellower, portions amid the ruins and airfield. This colour intensity unfortunately has been lost in this particular upload. It would be great to see a restored version on BluRay. I had forgotten the title of the film also, which made online searches near impossible, so this really was a stroke of luck! Many thanks for sharing this upload.
I was in this movie when the USS Coral Sea pulled into Olongapo for provisions in early 1969 and they needed extras. We were a bunch of sailors cheering on the two actors in that running scene at the end of the movie. We returned home from Vietnam in 1969. BTW, the village set burned down after that scene, and we turned into fire fighters.
@@lifesabeach5405 Shot by the enemy, same result and completely expected. Undramatically predictable. Shot by your own side would undoubtedly be more dramatic AND their own side was anticipating their return, so would have waited to confirm identity, before firing.
Henry Fonda enlisted into the military in 1942. Cliff Robertson was on a U.S. Merchant Marine when it was bombed, not sunk, off the coast of the Philippines on December 7, 1941. In other words, besides Michael Caine, others in the movie probably had first-hand experience in combat.
today's war movies have great special effects and CGI. But it's always old school movies like these which impresses me the most because they have interesting script lines and stories.
Can anyone translate the Japanese dialogue? I played this movie once in front of some Japanese folks once, for some reason, they found most of the dialogue difficult to understand... Filipino actors speaking broken Japanese maybe??? The exception was the lines delivered by Ken-san (Maj. Yamaguchi) but I've since forgotten what the translation was. Is there a copy of the movie with full translated subs?
Walking through the jungle singing your head off. Brilliant secret mission. How anyone could say this is a great film is beyond me. They'd have heard them coming in Tokyo

I had to laugh at the T-28s and T-34s painted as Japanese aircraft. Then I remembered the opening credits where they thanked the Philippines Navy and Air Force for their assistance.

His service to be respected and honored.

Do you know about this movie: "Hacksaw Ridge" (2016)?
