@@Evolution-r2c very much better. At the time this documentary was made, bombs regularly go off on Borno State (that’s the major state where all of these were happening) and kill hundreds of innocent civilians. Bombs from Boko Haram. Also, othere states were regularly attacked and bombed. Today, there are almost no bombings and attacks have generally reduced. The current President has tremendously equipped the army and trained loads of military men. There’s also now in place a more competent military leadership.
However, other security challenges have sprung up in form of bandits (terrorists attacking via guerrilla means, and kidnappers). But in recent week and months, those have also subsided. In the last couple of months, there has been immense success recorded by the the Nigerian military against the bandits. In general, the security situation is better than it was 7 - 8 years ago.

Anil Nair Africans are a bit funny when it comes to power they start of good hearted and idealistic but then they get this mentality they can do what they want and no one can stop them
an example was France supporting a general rebelling against a dictator in an African country only for that same general to end up committing genocide and a civil war because he wanted only his ethnic people in his country
that's why people say Africa is not ready for Democracy because the leader looks out for his intentions or his ethnic group not so much what the people as a whole need that and also because a lot of people simply don't get the concept the guy they wanted did not get elected so they rebel against the government

I swear, Pretty much every report from a warzone could double as a toyota commercial. Every self respecting militia or budget army needs at least a few thoroughly used toyota pick-up trucks. Often with a heavy machine gun mounted on the back. Those things are flippin' everywhere.

fnorgen The Toyota Hiluxes were even far far more common in the Nigerian Military than right now a few years ago. But actually they didn't serve us well. They have no Armour (Soft Skinned) and result in a lot of Military deaths. That's why we started to produce our own APC (Igirigi), buy South African MRAPs and Chinese MRAPs as well.
The Landrover uts/pick ups by the way are better than the Hilux.
Most Nigerian defense analyst and enthusiasts today are calling for the reduction of Toyota Hiluxes and slowly they are being phased out.

Another incredible piece of journalism. Thank you for covering this. Small detail, the tank at 4:15 is not a T-72. T-72 has a distinct flatter profile. This appears to be a T-54/T-55 variant. These are very common in developing countries and the original design dates back to 1949 (though likely this model is from the 1950s or later). It would be vulnerable to most RPG weapons.
