I love these loadout explanation videos! For sniper specifically I found a pretty neat video where you could "store" a full steady aim charge and use it whenever you want. it's at th-cam.com/video/NUuIHk23TME/w-d-xo.html
One thing to note with sniper is if you jump right before you reload you keep moving. This makes it really easy to dodge attacks while reloading and then shoot them in the back. Rinse and repeat until they’re dead.
Yup, if you can master the input for Shoot>turn around while jumping>prefect reload midair>turn back on the ground and shoot again You can be a ton more mobile, VERY rewarding character for those with high mechanical consistency
Also jump-reloads let you do instant white reloads once you get the rhythm of it, in the video that talked about it they mentioned it's like megaman shorthop shot timing or something. When I got in the groove with it perfect reloads became pretty easy
1:51 No, I thought, just like the Railgunner, that the most obvious M1 for a Sniper is a fully automatic aimbot assault rifle with movement utility that somehow also still has a 1.0 proc coefficient. Clearly.
But of course, this is the only logical option, which is why for the alt it definitely does that and certainly doesn't just slap enemies with the buttstock. Because that would be very silly.
I loved Sniper in RoR2013. And They're just as good in RoRR. In fact, it's like there are 2 sniper characters because the alt loadout is just so different but still keeps the insane 1 shot potential of the vanilla loadout. Love it
I personally like to play the alt kit more purely for how silly yet viable it is. Improvise does decent damage and is greatly improved with a Brilliant Behemoth, and if you're playing melee sniper, quickscope also synergises well with being close range because you don't have to wait for it to travel to the enemy. You can really take either movement ability, the backflip allows you to quickly get away while using quickscope and recoil allows you to reset the reload to get the bonus. Also as melee sniper, items like Frost Relic, Chargefield Generator, and Barbedwire go from being utterly useless to indispensable. So yeah, alt sniper is a melee character and playing it any other way is wrong. Remember I am no expert and so what I think is good may actually not be good.
You didn't mention this, but sniper's alt primary can be used while you are charging steady aim. It does not cancel the charge, does less knock back and it also pauses the charge for a short moment when you use it. It makes the alt primary VERY good
Yessss! I've been maining sniper since the original in 2013, I love playing him way more than any other character. I have a few extra tips/tech for anyone looking to improve at him: 1. As I saw another comment mention, you can jump before a reload to do so without slowing down. The common options for kiting are typically Jump Right + Reload > Hold Left + Shoot (when you land) and repeat that (swapping right/left as needed). Another option when you want to shoot an enemy you are walking towards (such as a boss while you are kiting through a horde) is Jump Right + Reload > Jump Right + Shoot. This one works on all enemies but is tougher on short enemies since you need to shoot immediately. 4. One pretty basic thing is that unlike the original where charging steady aim lets you do literally nothing but stand still, you can jump while in steady aim. This helps in situations where you accidentally backflip off a terrain step (or if you just want to fire from there), if you need to fire over a horde at a boss, or simply if you need a little more time to charge and you are getting swarmed, you can spam jump to dodge a little bit. This is even better with hopoo feathers. 3. A tech I discovered in this game is that you can actually SAVE your steady aim charge for later. If you fire your primary while charging steady aim, it will cancel out of the steady aim but the charge will still be there (even though it will not appear so on the bar later). You will find that if you charge ~90% of the meter and cancel it and then begin charging again later, it will autofire a full charge shot when the bar hits only 10%. This means you can quickly tap fire a full charge hit if you prepare it in advance, which I don't think I could overstate the usefulness of. Note though, that with this tech you will have to wait 2 cooldown cycles for 1 shot, so it's not universally applicable. As do your reload boosts, this charge stays between stages. 4. The video mentions that you can backflip while charging steady aim. There is another layer to it, though, because you can actually change the direction you are facing/flipping by holding your movement key. If you are facing left, you can hold right and backflip to flip to the left and begin facing right. 5. One last minor thing is that charging steady aim makes you very slidy, at least after using military training. Can help for kiting enemies; sometimes you will want to backflip and charge at the same time, rather than backflipping, walking, and charging. Hope this helps someone have more fun playing sniper!
Sniper makes a fantastic multiplayer option! I mean all the survivors do, but its particularly nice when you have someone like Engineer who can deal with crowds while you demolish bosses and bigger threats
@@whispers8888I also think it changes the reload speed. It changes so gradually that I didn't notice during my run but when I started my next run I was always clicking a bit too fast.
One thing I was sad that wasn't mention was how powerful Sniper is with an ATG, as it does 300% TOTAL damage meaning a perfect fully charged critical shot that does about 3,000 damage can proc a 9,000 damage missile. TOTAL damage items such as this on Sniper may have lower frequency of procs compared to other survivors but when they do proc can be devastating, just imagine the damage a ATG mk2 would do instead! As a side note the gender of the Sniper is a mystery, I know the game ending text says "And so THEY left, the sound still ringing in deaf ears" but I believe the game is referring to the Sniper AND their Drone together. If anything their gender is up to whomever plays them kind of like Kris from Deltarune.
Very very good point, total damage items are just nuts with characters who hit harder and ofc sniper is the best at that. This gets brought up in the HAN-D guide, but should have also gotten a better mention here in hindsight. On the gender thing, from their log. "The rifle and drone were cleared by the military checkpoint ahead of boarding, though the passenger opted to keep the drone with their carry-on luggage" They are clearly being referred to in the singular here with the drone mentioned as a separate object.
@@whispers8888 I do not believe the Sniper's log is solid evidence for this as logs deliberately keep the gender of the "Individual/Passenger" ambiguous . Miner: "Security personnel has allowed the individual to keep THEIR effects in carry-on" Commando: "Individual requested cargo hold access to 'stretch THEIR legs" Drifter: "After being informed that THEIR carry-on limit was one container, THEY dropped the additional bags and quickly passed through the terminal"
if you don’t hold a movement while you backflip you slide a little bit (like pilot) and slide further with movement speed. I find backflipping and then charging charge shot as you slide is a great way to use sniper
Also a fun tidbit: You can kinda Interrupt steady aim with both improvise and military training, by doing that, you first do the later and then shoot. Dunno If this is particularly useful, but sometimes can come in handy. Great vids btw. Glad seeing fellow nonbinary person out here
@llemingi8302 you're all good! And absolutely correct, stalling steady aim with military training is super helpful, I had not interrupted it with improvise before though, I'll be keeping that in mind for future runs! :3
Sniper Alt Secondary and Utility makes his gameplay more proactive than passive, the way you back off Quickscope and Heavy Recoil is the definiton of "mlg gaming"
Heavens creacker, monster tooth, crowbar, hit list, golden gun, infusion, guardians heart, one or 2 hoopo feather, rusty jetpack. The god run of Sniper is 4 monster tooth, crit items without attack speed, 40 crowbars 4 heaven crackers, one shot all enemies in front of you and restore 500 health per shot.
Worth noting that Heaven Cracker doesn't have map-wide range, however. I'd say it's best for melee survivors who already have short range (could be funny with Sniper's alternate 1), but I would say it's actually bad on Sniper.
Bandit and sniper share the spotlight as my favorites, the powerup combo with BIGG NUMBERS finisher playstyle always was one of my favorite things in eveything ) Also shoot-jump-reload feels amazing once you get the rhythm ) I like to just try and stack 3 or 5 crowbars and maybe some gold guns and just see big number go bigger.
6:00 I don’t remember if it was mentioned in the Video but you can do the backflip on any Providence phase he’s on the screen I got it on his first phase
sniper is really rewarding when everything works out but JEEZ does getting swarmed feel horrible with them. if you get enough of the elite archer bugs after you and have no AOE items they feel like the worst character in the game
I have found that as long as you get the right 'on kill' items, getting swarmed is much easier to deal with. This was probably pretty obvious but still felt like saying it. It's pretty satisfying seeing a group of archer bugs being incinerated by the Will-O'-The Wisp item.
you forgot to mention that you can use improvise while charging steady aim the same way you can with backflip. Also, if you aren't good at perfect reloads then heavy recoil might be nice to have as a way to reload your gun without having to wait for your M2 to recharge
I feel like Shattered Mirror might be good on Sniper. I mean, its basically double damage. So with your spotter, that's like, quad damage against that particular enemy. Just making his boss-busting niche even stronger. Btw, attack speed is pretty good on Sniper if youre running default 2. It makes the charge fill up faster.
(according to the wiki) Steady Aim's damage increases the longer the button is held down, rather than how full the bar is. So in the end, attack speed decreases the maximum damage output from Steady Aim (hopefully they change it in a future update)
I can't play mercenary in multiplayer because the parry always locks me in the parrying stance and I can't do anything except jump. It's such a shame because mercenary is such a fun character and being able to take blood shrines for free (thanks to being able to parry it) is very nice.
Not for this video but i know you are working on drifter. And a lot of people say drifter wins a run if they pick up duplicator but the actual win on pickup item is amethyst.
Nope! the only way sniper is referred to in game is as "The Soldier" or "The Sniper" in the logs, except the end text which reads "And so they left, sound still ringing in deaf ears"
GOD I NEED TO PLAY THIS GAME. But I can tell I would HATE playing sniper since it relies heavily on spacing and creating the right timing. I'll probably stick to high-movement assault type characters or tanky ones that go BRRRRRRRT
You'd probably love HAN-D, drifter, or enforcer. Brawlers and a true tank, that or I'll have to show you commando with some of his alts that really make him tons of fun imo for that mobile assault style (and ofc, pilot, fucken pilot lmao)
Bro I thought exactly the same thing when I unlocked sniper in ror1. Now they're my favourite character. Give them a try, you might be pleasantly surprised like me.
You would probably like mercenary. He uses i-frames and parrying to block damage and has a some pretty cool (though a bit situational) movement options.
