I had a lot of complaints about the providence trials but i was genuinely surprised at how fun and rewarding Merc’s trials were, I actually go back to them as a break sometimes
great video as always, though i am quite surprised you didn't mention that focused strike can literally parry everything including environmental damage (i.e lava, fall damage, blood shrines, ect).
You need to release the parry just as you hit the shrine, once you do the timing once or twice it's super easy, lets you 'parryfarm' the big shrines in temple of elders@@whispers8888
@@TarlukLegion nope, it's still very much in the game and i bet the dev's already know about it, similarly to pilot's wave-dash. and if not well lets hope they keep it cuz the mental image of merc parrying the blood back into his body after getting an item from a blood shrine is too funny.
It came up in my feed this time 7:19 that poor thing had no right being hit by that parry (that sword has some strong bluetooth) god wicked ring is so funny cause like on pilot your secondary has near infinite fire
One thing that's OP: Afterimage can stack with itself if you can get it under a 3sec cooldown. I got a Gigantic Amethyst and OH BOY I was shredding bosses in seconds without any crit. I obliterated Providence's Wurms in less than a second with just primary strikes. Now just imagine if I had crit and the Scepter
After i unlocked this guy i was like "ok i'm not big into this guy, i'll do a few runs until i win and forget about him" 5 and a half hours later i was still in my first run holding 1200+ items If you get enough rings and backup mags you simply can't lose
the "in games like final fantasy 14" was a bit of a surprise because I just recently bought the full game and all expansions. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it better to use your off global cooldowns and resources as such that you're all topped up when you reach your burst phase and don't overflow on anything?
I haven't played enough FFXIV to give advice there, I just remember you want to mix in your OGCs in between your GCs for extra damage, and that the "weaving" there feels very similar, to me atleast, but yes I believe you basically want to be using them all as much as you can and hopefully time getting them back with your burst phase, otherwise they're just kinda sitting there doing nothing when they could be getting you milage.
Overall good video, but here are some things that you forgot to mention that are good for him in my personal opinion as well as to just know overall. Frost relic and toxic centipede or both really good for mercenary item wise and focus strike does 500% on a whiff and 1000% upon a successful pairing no matter what. but overall, this is a really good video and and my most played character is mercenary you have been approved by a professional good job. Oh and merry Christmas.
yeah I didn't explicitly name all of em, but I did mean all the items that deal damage to nearby opponents, barbed wire, frost, centipede, chargefield- all suuuper good for melee bois, and thank you fren! Merry Christmas to you as well :3
I was an absolute Merc hater in ror1 (and 2 lol) but the change to the primary alone makes him feel so much better in this game. Love all of his alt skills too, they're super fun to use and have both upsides and downsides to the default ones, keeping me switching between them very frequently (Although most alts in this game are very good about that especially compared to 2 where a lot of the time it feels like there's a clearly better option... but that's a different conversation RETURNS MERC IS FUN!!)
Returns merc is fun indeed! I always love hearing about people learning to love a character, I had basically the same experience with commando in returns where I really disliked him in one and two but in returns with the full alt set it's a REALLY good time
There have been requests for an item tier list so we'll do that, I have some ideas for silly challenge runs, guides on how I completed each characters judgement trial (once I do that myself lmao), I even want to do some covers of some parts of the soundtrack, but also a ton of non RoR content since we're not solely a risk of rain channel, lots of fun stuff happens here that I think people will enjoy :3
So I've only played ror2 and binged that game while out of work. Is there a reason to play ror1? Looks fun, but mobility in 3d was like the best part of mercenary. He got pretty close to loader's mobility. ROR looks good 2d and pretty similar to ROR2 , but more bullet hell than hack'n'slash, so will it give me that feeling of being able to move real cool?
Really depends. movement serves the same purpose in both games: it's the best and oftentimes, only way to evade damage. You are never supposed to be a tank in either game. It's up to you whether you prefer styling on groups of enemies in ror2 over narrowly avoiding lethal damage with skilful movement and invincibility frame management in rorr (most melee survivors have some kind of invincibility mechanic as 2d doesn't always let you dodge massive damage just by moving around).
Honestly, with RoRR out and with options to toggle off the new content, there's little reason to play RoR1 besides nostalgia, Returns really is 1 at its final form
@@whispers8888 I see. I never played RoR so I guess I dont gotta. Maybe someday when I'm like real old I'll try it. Let's hope digital shit lasts longer in this generation and next moreso than it did with the previous 3 generations.

The parry ability is OP, you can just jump into a group of enemies, tap it, and isntantly shred half of them.
great video as always, though i am quite surprised you didn't mention that focused strike can literally parry everything including environmental damage (i.e lava, fall damage, blood shrines, ect).
I knew it could parry fall damage and lava (laughed my ass off when I tested gravity on stream once), but also blood shrines? that's super cool
