      Why did they let him go in the first place, was there a particular reason? One would think Tanev would have been a perfect fit to play with Hughes or part of a defence core building around him. Also i dont think his cap was/is more than 4 million, which is fine for a defender that actually contributes. Seems like he wanted out of there at the time

    Love Dad's grit and energy. While I understand that interviews with hockey players can be difficult I thought a lot of these questions were very surface level, I didn't like all of the teeth comments/questions. I really wish the Vancouver subject wouldn't have been broached at all. Elliot Friedmans 32 thoughts interview was far more thoughtful than this one.

      @@red3here I thought it was a very surface level question "look a guy is missing a lot of teeth, let's ask him about it". A lot of hockey players are missing teeth and it's no secret ho and it feels like a missed opportunity when such an interesting player is being intereviewed. I did like the mention of Marky's mask.
      I think more intesting questions would have been "We reached out to twitter and we recieved a lot of feedback from Canucks fans, do you feel a connection with the fans or city?"
      "Does all of the trade interest from other teams make you feel like any sort of way? From my perspective, you've been an incredible asset of the blue line and in the locker room no matter where you've been and it's nice to see you getting that kind of recognition that teams think you can help lead them to a championchip."
      "What did you think of thanksgiving in Texas with the Coleman Family? Was it your first American Thanskgiving?"
      "You mentioned you go to a lot of Jays games, how do you split up your offseason to relax?"
      "You're known as a shot blocker, where does that fearless attitude come from? Have you always had it? You blocked 20 shots in a game, do you do anything special to assist in your recovery after a game like that?"
      the list goes on

    • @IanStrain23328
      @IanStrain23328 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean, his missing teeth are a big part of him as a player, it shows how much hes willing to commit to blocking the puck and playing how a Dman should.

    My only 2 concerns about bringing Chris Tanev back are his age and the fact that when he was here, he was injured at lot. That seems to have changed somewhat in Calgary, but given the travel and schedule situation Vancouver is subjected to, that may be another reason to pass on him, at least as a trade target. When he was in the lineup for the Canucks and healthy, he was great. A bona fide top pairing shutdown defenseman. He's older now, and probably a top 4 at best unless they really want him to get injured. The last thing I'd want, given my memory of him here, is for him to be blocking shots. I get why Quinn would want him back, though. They had great chemistry together and Chris helped him develop into the player he now is. But I'd still have my reservations. If it's going to take significantly more for him, another rental player, than Zadorov, it's a tough decision, but I say pass. They never should have let him go, though. They might not have had a lot of the defensive issues that they did the past few years if he'd still been on the roster.

      Did you watch the interview? He gets injured a lot because he actually block shots and not just half asses it like a lot of the current Canuck D who end up screening Demko or just hold their stick out and deflect the puck past him instead.

    Seriously, all these two can talk about is an injury that occurred 6 years ago. This amateurish fixation diminishes Tanev's exceptional defensive talent. What they should be discussing with him is 1600+ blocked shots, spot on outlet passes, and the immense presence he has on the ice & in the room. Teams are clamouring for him as a UFA & they're talking about teeth!

    • @mrquirky3626

      I was fine with it. As a goalie, I've never understood the mentality of a defensemen trying to intentionally stop a shot with his actual face. Sliding feet first and taking it off you shin pads is fine, but diving head first into the path of the puck wearing only a visor over your eyes is insane. We have full face masks so we can handle the impact but for a D-man or forward to do it, that's a sense of commitment to the game that's worth discussing. The questions were completely valid.
