I have a copy of the full, very long video still. Not played it n years as I don't have a working player anymore. Don't remember any music in it, except start & finish. It was just cab noise & conversation. Good to see this again
Hi, do you know where the goods line that ran underneath Bootle strand, ( had half Miley tunnel under marsh lane, by gasworks) was in a cutting that is now Asda and went into another tunnel at side of old muncaster pub on irlam road....where did that section exit at the derby road/strand road area?? It led to Langton dock goods yard, I've heard the portal was inside a warehouse in that area...any truth in that?? Thanks in advance, any pics would be great. Ty again
@@modernista6056 it fans out into various sidings after passing under strand rd. The portal is between lyster rd on the docks side & atlas rd on the land side. One siding line passed close alongside Alexandra goods shed, arctic rd.
@@Merseywail thanks for that info. I take it that last section from muncaster/irlam rd portal to the atlas rd was all back filled or did they leave a void in middle of tunnel, IE just plugging up both ends? Also, do you know anything about the side chamber in the tunnel under rice lane flyover, it has/had a smaller tunnel that led to ladders that come up under a manhole cover on the raised part of the central subway roundabout? Line goes thru to kirkdale station. We used to love goin on all those old lines n tunnels as kids🙂 thanks.
@@modernista6056 they were backfilled. The half Miley only plugged. I don't know about the roundabout tunnel. The CLC did build part headings as they had ambitious of quadrupling the line. It might be connected with that
The commentary where he mentions the orient express getting windows smashed on grand national day 87 brought back my memory of seeing that train that day while playing football on maiden lane field (pretty much near the site of Breck rd station)
This was simply Amazing. I have worked on the Freight Railway for 33 yrs, A huge portion of it on that very route and a lot of it has not changed to this day. At 2.00 that is while the train was sat on the up or down Wapping, waiting departure. The S+T Cabin at 4.45 is still there to this day and of course the Olive Mt Curve at 7.50 is now back in. The Fixed Distant Signal at 16.44 is still there and at the Bottom of the Bootle Branch, the Shunter who walks out to meet the Train is Billy Thorpe, if I`m not mistaken. I remember the 4X20s on the Coal trains but sadly I never worked with them as I started in 1990. Th Liverpool Bulk Terminal (LBT ) Opened in 1992 and that done away with loading, using Mechanical Loading Shovels. Nowadays it is Double lined out of The Docks and there are plans to open Regent Road, back to Road Traffic.
I,m now retired and living in S/Wales so I don't think I'll be returning to Merseyside to refresh my memories. At least I have the tape. Thanks for watching
Always instructive to see footage such as this & the trackside debris between 15:50 - 17:50 with the ghostly synthesiser music gives it an almost post apocalyptic feel.
@@TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways god i mean i can guess ? Br blue and 20s probably late 80s or possibly likely to be early 90s, if im not wrong they got the 20s taken off around mid- late 90s for 60s,37s and then a mix with 66s in early 00s, footage quality and wagons i reckon 1989/90
@@TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways I wondered if the second two were just being moved, or powered up. Didn't know we had such a loco configuration in the UK.
Thanks for sharing this Mike.

Full video was 'Choppers and Hoppers' from memory by AJC Video Productions. I still have it but now converted onto DVD, must dig it out.

Wonderful video many thanks for sharing
thanks Mike. really interesting with good commentary.
It's that sort of area. Mainly flytipping in certain patches, the lines being in cuttings.
Well worth the short trip back in time Mike.
I still have 2h.19m of Merseyside VHS to edit, so keep watching !
The amount of litter on the line is astounding
Location 1 looks like Fiddlers Ferry heading east. The signal is possibly the PS entry
Spot on Mark
@@boozapup1284 Shame it's so overgrown now ☹️
@@markenderby8118 - indeed, and the trains are all but absent too
Yes I was just going to say that, then I saw your post
Fiddlers Ferry the Sankey canal in widnes, theres a level crossing there by the approach to the power station
Would you have any idea of the recording date/year please?

It's quite a steep incline up from the docks ( riverside) and a long heavy load
Great video. Is there a part 2 anywhere can't find it on you tube? Thanks
Give me time ! Takes quite a while with these old VHS tapes
