This, to me, is the definitive 90s / Early 2000s sound. It brings to mind such imagery like a pale/yellowing train station, or a rain-soaked street at midnight reflecting the neon signage of a local night club. It almost has a majesty to itself that doesn't necessarily imply cleanliness or perfection, but rather, true freedom and solidarity. So, so special.
A gritty uncertain-ness to tomorrow but with the golden hued optimism of the past. like a dust-covered dashboard of an old Selica. Hazy, and just for a moment, hopeful.
To my internet friends here: Speaking as someone who lived as a teen in the 90s - That ethereal place you go to in your mind and all those feelings you have imagining what once was, what could have been, or what could be when you listen to this music - I can personally tell you: it was that and it was wonderful. Wish you could have been there with me too at the time but I’m glad this playlist can transport us back there together. That reality still lives in this music and I’m happy it has brought us here together.
I discovered Jungle in 2018. I then explored more of Electornic music. I discovered, Hardcore, Breakcore, Power Noise, Frenchcore, and more! Jungle made me discover how unique Electronic can truly be. Jungle is like the party that you go to and you never want to leave. Its just filled with badass bliss.
It was a magical time. A time of opening ones mind. One thing YT is good for, to allow the old ones to go back to those times and feel excited about what was happening, but also to allow the generations of today experience what people of the era were experiencing. I also find it great that a new generation is embracing the sound and continuing the wonderful sound of Jungle/DnB!

It's so funny the way i found DnB of this type. I LOVED when modern music had some snippets of these types of beats but i didn't know why or what it was, i just thought it was cool drums i could hear sometimes. And then i started to get DnB mixes recommended on TH-cam and everything changed. A whole new world opened up to me. THIS is my genre. This is the sound i've been longing for, i can listen to this forever. I listened to a lot of Trip Hop back in the days and that genre is influenced by DnB so it all makes sense now. I'm 30 so better late than ever i guess, it's like i'm a teenager again, with these fresh new tunes in my lil ears.
I also used to listen to a lot of trip hop and liquid dnb in my earlier teens, then evolved to lofi and phonk, hip hop, now rotating back to drum and bass and barber beats vaporwave

My first DNB tape was Madd Chiller - Soul in control from like 95 that I got at a rave. I played the HELL out of that tape. It was my very first DNB experience back then. I had to meet him. I had to find more tapes and parties in and around the midwest where this music was played at. Back then us young people had the luxury of going to parties where you could hear multiple gemres in one night and spend 12 hours in a crowded, dark, sweaty, utopian looking auditorium...or the chill room with cool chill lighting with meditation and maybe even a little yoga going on. I miss these days. I remember playing that first DNB mixtape at a party at an old apartment I had a couple months into my DNB exploration. An old late 80's cassette Walkman with the extra bass eq adjustment plugged into a 4 ×12 bass guitar cabinet. The bass literally shook every wall and ceiling. The upstairs neighbors came down within 5 minutes. Great party. Good times.
I miss the mix tapes I brought home from raves in the 90s. Staring at my ceiling thinking, "I'll never fall asleep." With underground mixes - there was no NEED to sleep, just lay there and vibe. 🫠💕

My first DNB tape was Madd Chiller - Soul in control from like 95 that I got at a rave. I played the HELL out of that tape. It was my very first DNB experience back then. I had to meet him. I had to find more tapes and parties in and around the midwest where this music was played at. Back then us young people had the luxury of going to parties where you could hear multiple gemres in one night and spend 12 hours in a crowded, dark, sweaty, utopian looking auditorium...or the chill room with cool chill lighting with meditation and maybe even a little yoga going on. I miss these days.
I remember playing that first DNB mixtape at a party at an old apartment I had a couple months into my DNB exploration. An old late 80's cassette Walkman with the extra bass eq adjustment plugged into a 4 ×12 bass guitar cabinet. The bass literally shook every wall and ceiling. The upstairs neighbors came down within 5 minutes. Great party. Good times.
I miss the mix tapes I brought home from raves in the 90s. Staring at my ceiling thinking, "I'll never fall asleep." With underground mixes - there was no NEED to sleep, just lay there and vibe. 🫠💕
