Yo, its crazy to watch that top down view, you can see the grass underneath the disc gets blown backwards as you release! That's just crazy to me. I guess every force has an equal and opposite force, eh?

That elbow movement on the forehand. Something that was never taught to me, hardly mentioned in any other tutorial, but seems to be vital to developing a strong forehand. Been trying to use that movement lately when I throw, but my arm seems so stiff compared to yours!

Much agreed. After 3 years, that was the one element of the forehand that was never taught to me from other videos and people I've played with. After learning that from Rowan, I've increased my forehand distance by 25 yards :)

Thanks y’all! The more range of motion we can get leading up to the wrist snap is key. But can be difficult and make throws worse before they get better, discouraging players from sticking with it. But it pays off :)

@@RowanMcDonnell Thanks, Rowan! I just got back from playing some pickup after watching this video, and I had some great hucks caught by fast receivers sprinting to the end zone. I try to watch a few of your vids before I play, so I can just practice the motions at my desk with a disc in my hand, and it always makes me feel much more confident when I'm on the field :)
Until just a few months ago, I was always hesitant to throw a flick more than 30 yards because they weren't powerful enough or too inconsistent. My ultimate friends know that I have the backhand, but with the force usually being flick, It bummed me out to see teammate going too deep for me to throw on the force side. Thanks to your tutorials, I'm much more confident in my long forehand throws, and they've been pretty consistent lately!
Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED Talk, and keep up the great vids!

Amazing vids. I hope you would do the same for every trick throws you explain, sometimes it's hard to understand the movement.

Thank you so much for the video! I play disc golf. I'm a lefty, and when I throw my forehand drives, I'm coming off my right foot forward. I never thought of placing my left or inside foot forward instead from a stand still position. I'm going to try that next time I'm out on the course!

BD2DK The reason you step out like he is doing in this video in ultimate is to get around defenders, because you are allowed to pivot with one foot. Because there are no rules about staying in one place in disc golf, I would suggest still having your opposite leg of your throwing arm forward, it should be more powerful. Look up disc golf instruction for the footwork.

      Name
Ah gotcha! I like that straddle stance cuz I like throwing stand still on short drives and some upshots. I was at the park yesterday shooting hoops. Then I grabbed a couple putters out to practice my sidearm. Standing baseline to baseline I threw a couple and put one in the opposite basket! The backhand stance is nice too cuz sometimes you gotta stand in that position on some upshots to get around obstacles. I feel like more aces are on the way now! Haha!

My hands are small, hard to grip the disc like that. Any suggestions? My flick med-long super weak. Small-med passes are on point

fiddle around and find something that works (maybe 3 fingers inside the rim?)
just make sure that (1) there's no gap between the crook of your thumb and the disc and (2) the disc doesn't wobble in your hand
