Compare how Ceasar would act and Proximus, one would feel anger and pain over the loss of an ape while the other was amazed by a weapon and cared not for apes.

But he is a hypocrite who doesn't care about anyone but himself. One of his most loyal warriors got killed right in front of him and all he cares about is getting guns.
In the end, he was right all along, mae cant be trusted, she used them both. This movie is just dawn of the planet of apes except the humans win
I love how Proximus reacted to the Gun, not only shock but also feeling very intrigued to weaponize himself and his apes with guns, I basically like to think we’ve all had the same feeling in the moment where we’ve loved to see Apes using Guns again, though once I’ve seen the Tanks in the Vault, it only made Me hope more that they’ll be used by the Apes in the Future of this Trilogy, which is unlikely but hey I can dream okay?

I don't blame Mae for blowing up the damn and flooding the place with all the apes still in there. She couldn't let Proximus get his hands on all those weapons. At least she saved Noa’s girlfriend. This means that she cares about Noa and the Apes.
Yea I agree, I think that her blowing up the damn was the most badass part of that movie and Mae herself surprisingly, and I do think any human with some sense would have done the same thing she did in that situation.
Btw did anyone else get scared when Mae jumped on the other human guy (I forgot his name) like that startled me like crazy.

No, she's not. She's just worrying that the apes would use the tools inside that vault so the apes would become more advanced and replace human society altogether.
She did cry at Raka's "death" and again when Noa gave her the pendant.
For the apes, Mae is the villain, but to humans, she definitely prevented a tyranical ape from rising to power and putting the last humans in danger
The way Proximus just rushes to the Vault and sees it with awe, as well as his excitement towards guns is chilling. I lowkey wanted to see the apes get access to the vault to see what they would do with it

Here's a scary little analysis for anyone who thinks May was villainous or evil in doing what she did.
When one society advances to a new tier of technology, another society with the means and drive can do it faster by copying them and avoiding the mistakes they made. It took Britain almost 300 years to industrialize. Germany in 200. Japan took less than a century.
In this movie, the one advantage humans have is maintaining their current level of tech. They're not advancing mind you and they're regressing in some areas. However, as the ending of the film shows, there is still a level of tech that is being maintained that far surpasses the apes.
The apes? The apes have numbers. That means a lot but it's not everything. They still mostly are hunter gatherers who are barely managing to claw their way into early metal work. What Proximus is doing is nothing is miraculous. He's dragging a low-tier civilization into the early industrial age. He recognizes what he needs to have even a chance of taking on the human remnants. Before he is thwarted, he is so frighteningly close to pulling it off with what the vault could have taught him.
This is like a reverse Aztec Spanish confrontation where the Spanish might have the advancements, but the Aztecs absolutely understand what they need to level the playing field and they aren't burdened with a disease that cuts their population in half.
I really hope a future movie focuses on this conflict and brings back Proximus if he still lives. He's too cool.
The top two comments point out Proximus' reaction to the sight of a gun. That's exactly why Mae had to do what she did.
And also the culmination of her hypocrisy, in the end while Noah trusted her, she couldn't trust him as in the ending she reiterates that everything there belonged to humans, not apes, showing a prideful delusion in how she and other humans like the Colonel in the War of the Planet of the Apes couldn't accept that this is a world shared between Apes and Humans.
If he had gotten those guns, it would have been koba all over again! Plus they would have had acces to the tanks as well!
Agreed, and the threat of Proximus Caesar would have been 50 to 100 real quick, and the apes outside of Proximus' kingdom would have to make due with the weapons they have or take from the Ape Soldiers after battles, and the tanks would be impossible to take down with primitive weapons, go ahead, tell me how to take down a upgraded Proximus' Ape Kingdom, a Ape Kingdom with 1 columns' worth of M1 Abrams Tanks, Guns, and Taser Spears, etc.

Lightning was a very bad ape, and creepy as well. Harrasing a feral girl in the hunt scene, the way he touched Mae's hair and sniffed his hand afterwards laughing, threatening to slit Soona's throat...he had to go.
I realized what Proximus is trying to do. He wants those weapons to destroy the humans. Including the apes who refuse to follow his way.
Proximus is pretty big for a Bonobo, I mean look at the size of him compared to Sylva

Everyone complaining why she chose the weakest gun, but no one thinking how she's literally a child or young teen with no skills, strength, amd knowledge of human weaponry such as guns. Machine guns are too heavy, rifles are too powerful, shotguns are too complicated, and most pistols need somewhat experience to just not get your hands blown off.

I don’t think the tanks or vehicles in there are operational even after 300 years. The guns probably operational, it depends where & how humans store those ammunition if doesn’t corrode. If Mae didn’t blow up the dam.
I imagine there were a few flamethrowers in there as well. 🔥Not to mention some bazookas and rocket launchers.
Gasoline doesn’t store well and goes stale in months. Imagine centuries.
I’m no gun expert, but how is that gun even working properly after sitting in a locker for hundreds of years lmao. Also Mae did the right thing. The apes are already smart and with time, they would’ve figured out how to operate those tanks and other vehicles and become a big threat again to the surviving humans who didn’t revert back to being primitive. I hope in the next film they show the surviving humans that are still “human” and what they’re planning on doing.
Hope in the sequel he becomes a Palpatine and we follow his Vader and then in the last movie of the trilogy they kick his ass
I’m glad Mae saved Noa’s girlfriend, killing the ape who held her at knife point. I understand why Mae felt like she did what she had to do. However she and the false Caesar were both evil; she was the lesser evil of the two. But she should have let Noa & the Eagle Clan get a head start to flee. I do wish she gave the sign language sign for Climb to Noa and the clan to go immediately. Thanks for uploading.
