28 135... f2 ? ❤ For me it would be easy... Because i don't have z lenses yet... it would be my first lens ..and first zoom (only primes☀️📷☀️) We'll see
A Pentax 28-135 was my favorite back in the day. A Canon 28-135 was my workhorse lens on my old 5D. Now the Nikon 24-120 has that role on my Z8. If a Nikkor 28-135 was affordable enough, it just might be the lens to propel me into actually using the video features the Z8 offers.
Good discussion, Matt! And it opens up a lot of questions. Yes, as I noted in my comments on the RED acquisition ... or rather the "unhinged" reaction, Nikon (Nippon Kogaku, K.K., or Japan Optical Co) were in the cine lens space a long time ago and some of those old lenses are prized today. And I stand by my prediction that NIKKOR cine lenses are on the way. So this is an interesting rumour. The large front element (or, at least, barrel) would likely be standard 95mm for cine lenses to fit matte boxes, etc. I'm interested but not sure if I'd buy. Much would depend on the final specs/price. But I'm actively looking at Z-mount cine lens options.
I would appear that it's a logical progression from Nikons Cine history and also opening up a wider audience of video users plus increase market share and a challenge to Cannon cine line and 3rd party lens manufacturers.
Would be a whopper of a lens. 28-135 2.8 Powerzoom!!!!! I’d buy it for the f2.8 factor alone. I’m really looking forward to seeing how good it is. It could replace the 24-70 2.8 in my bag. Any clue when it might come out? Thanks for the update Matt.
Yes nikon should go into the cine equipment business. Yes i support their decision. And yes i dont even touch my z6-2 and my late z50 video mode. Lol. Nikon too heavy centric on photography. Especially wildlife, landscape, cityscape and street market.
Interesting video, I hope this or these lenses for video will build on Red Nikon . As a still photographer I love using Nikon as a professional and I hope this will continue with Red.
It will be fascinating to see how Nikon approaches the design of this lens. Sony has had a similar focal range PZ out for ages and it’s a chunky beast. With modern linear motors and other mechanical miniaturization it should be more manageable and certainly the optical formula will blow the Sony out of the water. In the end, the timing of this Nikon transition isn’t quite right for my business needs. Sony FX cameras take care of my filming needs for the time being. Maybe in a few years when Reds have Z mount then I will take a closer look at what Nikon has developed for cine.
I'm still waiting for the 35mm f/1.2 that was supposed to be coming on the roadmap.
I suppose it is still coming !!! 😀 I’m certainly looking forward to it too.

We'll see
Not only is that digital zoom built in to the cameras but that also makes virtually any lens “parafocal “. Like cmon man that’s awesome
Red Zed Redemption ❤
Haha just wrote the same before checking the comments😂

Very exciting glimpse of the lenses to come.
Very exciting news Matt !!
It’s only a rumour at this stage but there are certainly other similar lenses from other brands which does make it feel more likely. 😀📸
I’m waiting for their “RED ZED Redemption” for their late entry into video work 😂
Another fun chat sir, thanks! Note that in Germany they have had Zee Red cameras for a while now 😂 I’ll show myself out...
lol.

Just rumours at this stage. 😀
Now you got to do Nikon's old cine-glass review, Matt 😊 I'm sure it'll be a wonderful journey
I’ll see if I can find some. 😀📸 Would be a beautiful thing.
@@MattIrwinPhotography Ask Kon and Becky from Grays, i'm sure they have some
@@loihpatli great idea.

It’s an exciting rumour for sure. Let’s hope it is news sometime soon !!! 😀

I'd sell my 35 1.8S,85 1.8S and 100-400S for this one but might still not be able to cover the cost, lol
Put that one a gimbal and I’m good. Easy to balance and wouldn’t have to move my hands much.
it'll be an F4. have you not seen sony's 28-135 f4? that powerzoom has a massive front element
Yes I mention it in this video.
Give us the 35 mm 1.2 instead.
What about Nikon licensing Tamron 70-180 G2
I’m sure you’re right. The next wave of Red cameras will have Z mounts not Canon so they will need a some nice cine glass.
Nikon/Red have said they will be keeping the RF mount and will be bringing the Z mount also.
