- Learning the golf pivot can be a challenge for the beginner or a golfer at any level for that matter. @The Forgotten Golfer tried to break it down in simple terms so anyone at any age can master it with practice. I played for years without a good pivot. Basically because I was over swinging. I thought muscle was more important than technique and balance and I was dead wrong. Work and master your pivots and enjoy the game of golf in the middle of the fairway.
Thanks so much for your videos, Tony. I’m 72….had neck and back surgery seven years ago, ( after being in a wheelchair from severe spinal stenosis.). I can relate my friend! Keep up the good work.
Have a look at Brian Sparks la dance du golf , think you will find it interesting
Lifting my left heel in the backswing helps me move the weight back.
Ok as long as your head stays in there, that's fine!
We’ll presented tip Tony…thx!
Thanks Tony
This is an area I'm currently struggling with. I'm also older and do not have the flexibility I had 40 years ago (who does?!?) I seem to be able to control the pivot and the sway with my shorter irons, but past the 7 iron, I seem to progressively lose it. My 6 is not as good as my 7, and by the time I get to my 4 iron, it isn't working at all. My fairway woods are also very bad. My driver is a bit better, but I think that is primarily because the sweet spot on the big head is so much bigger.
How bent are your legs at address? I keep mine just bent a hair and it’s made a big difference. Playing the ball closer to my body.
Is that your Dad with you when you are younger in every play.
No, my high school coach Ted Wagner who had just made me captain of the golf team.
We were lucky he was actually a professional and helped us a lot. Very few high schoolers were playing golf in 1975. Just a few of us. But my teammates were all very talented and I still keep up with many of them today. My father was very hard on me but he gave me the best advice--“Without a great grip you’ll never be any good…”
