If this parable concerning the wayward son offers any positive message (instead of simply disparaging the Jews) it is the fact that no intermediary is needed between the father and his beloved children, only genuine repentance. No gee-zus, no human sacrifice, no gospel, no sacraments, nothing, nobody, except t'shuva in accordance with our holy Torah.

The impression that I get about Jesus is that he is characterized as two almost totally different personalities:
Emerging from the four Gospels is a man of God who taught a small following how to experience the love of God,
as sovereign individuals with private and personal access to the "Heavenly Father." Whereas, much of the New Testament
seems to repurpose Jesus by the projection of religious leaders' minds to originate the orthodoxy of Christianity. This may be
the reason there are so many contradictions and sincere lies incorporated in the scriptures.
I am impressed with Rabbi Singer's determination and ability to teach us from his perspective.

For years, my take on the Prodigal son has been and still is - is that the Prodigal son/"Christianity" wallowed in the Pig Pen of life while the older son/Jews/Judaism stayed with the Father and walked in His ways.
Which is as it should be as they, the Jewish People were Entrusted with the Scriptures to bring the Knowledge of G-d to the World and to be His Light among the people's.

@@lynnescheidegger3668 Christians go through Jesus because He is the sacrifice for sins. Jews are supposed to sacrifice animals when they sin but most ignore Gods laws these days. They assume that they get special treatment just because they are the chosen people mind you, the Israelites weren't chosen because they were Holy as you know. Not many actually had a heart for God as it says in the Tanakh.

    • @booksquid856
      @booksquid856 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mattpowell6291 No one has to sacrifice animals to gain forgiveness. It is purely symbolic and liturgical. Which is why the nation could hope for return from exile after the Babylon exile. Imagine if legitimately you had to bring a lamb to a temple to get forgiven but you were already in Babylon! In Torah, Israel is simply told to repent. Same thing with Nineveh...no marching to Jerusalem to offer a lamb. Just repentance. We don't tell a husband who needs to apologize, "Hey, you have no way of obtaining forgiveness without the required dozen roses, so don't bother treating your wife better!" On the other hand, we also don't say, " Hey, don't bring her flowers. You did that once for all already." Sometimes rituals really do matter even when they are not the goal in themselves. And it makes no sense to say that liturgical traditions of a specific nation of Israel have been replaced by a globalist belief system in which god finally solves a cosmic trolley problem by executing one particular innocent man.

I'm not denying that the Jews suffered a lot because of Jesus. My response is that even in the Tanach, the Jews suffered after not listening to Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Isaiah. So why is it an odd thing for Jews to suffer in response to a man's message? Shouldn't the real question be whether Jesus was a Prophet or not, rather than people suffered because of His message? Because again, if the main contention is that people suffered, then you'd have to indite Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Isaiah too.

The parable of the Prodigal Son does NOT talk about Jews vs. Gentiles. Look at Luke 15 as a whole. It begins: "Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”" Then, Jesus starts telling parables - of the lost sheep, of the lost coin, of the lost son. They are all answering the complaint that Jesus welcomes sinners. But there were hardly any Gentiles at the scene - Luke 14:1 says Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee on a Sabbath. Would Gentiles be allowed inside? No. Both the sinners and the (self-)righteous were Jews in this case. The interpretation that it's about Jews vs. Gentiles came from later theologians.

The Bible is the 24 Books of the Jewish Torah/Tanakh, written in Hebrew. The Greek Septuagint came about by Greeks forcing 72 Jewish Torah Scholars to translate the TORAH portion on the Bible into Greek, an event that is mourned yearly by the Jews. The Prophets and the Writings Portion were translated by Greeks, who turned Immanuel's already PREGNANT MOTHER INTO A VIRGIN, just as it turns VENUS THE MORNING STAR INTO LUCIFER OF GRECO ROMAN MYTH, it blends the TRUTH OF GD WITH THE LIES OF HEATHEN MAN, it is a purposely mistranslated version of the Jewish Bible, like the OT it is Man Made Garbage that keeps Gentiles in the Dark.

And also add the trinity in the end of Matthew, and that Jesus also God in John 1: 18. and that it is a shame that woman speaks in the Church as in 1 Corintians 14: 35? and that Jesus is the end of the law? There is more examples than these verses. I think it needs a big work of reconstruction to get hold on the HISTORIAL Greek testament.

That the Gospel of John was gone, I think Jews and Christians would have a better relationship. What do you think Rabbi? Also do you know how fortunate you are to be able to live on Eretz Israel? I'd love to live there and enjoy life there and be happy. When my father and I bought the family funerals they stipulated in mine that if I were to die in Israel, I paid extra for them to bring me back from Israel so I could be buried in the Fort Logan National US Military Cemetery because my parents are buried there in the same grave and all kinds of relatives and friends are buried there and I'm a Veteran. My dad is on top of my mom. Blood is thicker than water. Before my parents died, I always thought it would be a great privilege to be buried on Erertz Israel. But now that my parents are deceased, I still want to be close to them. I usually visit their grave (I'm not a Cohen) once a week weather permitting. The thing is, when I'm in Israel I see my soul in the faces of the Jews. I have love in my heart here, but there is a lot more love and connection to HaShem through the Jews on Eretz Israel. My parents were good people. We visited Israel together once. Although I have been there more times than I can remember. My mom and dad were married 1 month short of 71 years. When my mom passed away, she was 97 and when my dad died, he was 94. My grandpa on my mom's side was a coal miner in Delagua, Colorado. There isn't even a foundation left there anymore. My grandpa on my dad's side was a milkman on his sister's dairy. One thing my dad made sure is that I would remember was that my grandpa worked 27 years without a day off. He died before I was born, and his wife my dad's mother died when my dad was three. My dad had three brothers and three sisters and my mom had 2 sisters and 4 brothers. And I'm an only child, never been married and as far as I know I have not fathered any children. But I like women and am not now or ever have been gay or anything the LGBTQ could come up with. However, I'm part of the brotherhood of Marines and I thank G-d for having served honorably. I'll sign off with this for you to think about: “The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Raban Gamliel said not to touch his followers because a jew though mistaken is still a jew, as long as JC was not dubbed God.

The most troubling Parable in the New Testament to me is the one where Jesus tells a story of a king who took power, and then established his religion in his kingdom, but made an ultimatum that everyone had to convert or they would be put to death. The parable states that the king gives everyone two chances to convert, and if the person declines the first time, they are to be brought before the king and given one last chance, but if they decline a second time, they are to be slayed before the king.
It makes me wonder, how many times did people interpret this as literal instructions to basically commit genocide on their own people for those who refused to convert to Christianity from a former non-Christian religion? I imagine this must have happened in the past almost 2,000 years since it seems that most every other scripture in the Old and New Testament that demands blood for certain trespasses, we have recorded history of tribes and Nations using the scriptures to persecute people and worse. But yeah, that passage with that parable is the most troubling to me because it is basically permission to commit genocide on all those that disagree theologically.

@@stffghh well a modern example of Christians committing genocide on neighboring tribes that practice other traditions happened around 2010, it was in Africa I seen this shortly after it happened so I can't remember perfectly all the details I learned) where an entire neighboring tribe from this larger Christian tribe had completely wiped out all men women and children, and some of it was recorded on video including a mother and her baby being picked apart by a man with an AK-47. The excuse that one of the killers gave for the slaughter was that the neighboring tribe refused to repent from their evil Pagan traditions, and the story went that this tribe had been visited and converted by a nice missionary husband and wife back in the 1950s, and this is how their Christianity had evolved after around 70 years since that missionary couple had moved on and the generations had passed. Honestly there was no mention of this parable, but I can't help but remember this parable after I learned of this tragedy and listened to one of those tribesmen give that excuse, but I really don't find it a coincidence that the man in that video used the excuse that the neighboring tribe wouldn't repent of their evil Pagan traditions, because this Parable is the only thing that I know in the New Testament that could be interpreted as to commit genocide with the exception of the law in the Old Testament that says do not suffer a witch to live, which we know incited the witch trials in Europe and in America in the 17th century.
I just find it really confusing how anyone can honestly expect other people who are fervent in their beliefs to just convert to another religion when they already believe that one thing was true and divinely-inspired. It would be no different then if a majority religion invaded a Christian population and demanded them to convert or else. Christians obviously already believe their religion as it was taught to them is true and obviously all other religions are false, and any Christian who would hear about this would know that this was an evil act by people of the other religion, how can anyone be judged in such a way when it is not their fault that they were convinced of certain things, whether it be by our fellow man or a deity. I can understand how a person could be judged for committing physical acts of harm against others, but not be judged just because they were convinced of certain things that they came to believe. People should be judged by their actions, not their thoughts.

Honestly, the first time I read about the prodigal son, understanding it from MY OWN point of view, I was disappointed with the older son for his lack of grace for his younger brother. BUT, when I know more about God, I understand it in a different way. It was about the different perception of the two sons about their father. The younger son perceived his father as kind and understanding, that he dared in the first place to ask for his inheritance, and when he realized his mistake and was truly repentant, (for he was returning ready to be a hired man), he has confidence to go back home, knowing his father is merciful and gracious. On the other hand, the older son beheld his father as a strict father, that he has to work hard to please him, and whatever he received from his father he would have considered it as a reward when his father is pleased with his work. That's why he was shocked and hurt that the father prepared a welcome feast for his wasteful younger brother while he was not treated as generously. And the father's response seems to say, if his older son has only asked, what the father has is also for him. It really is a very sad but true story of how people perceive God.

Rabbi, why do you keep naming these videos like this. 😂 You're so kind!
Also, I thought I'd say that I don't knowwhat's with some Christians focusing on the Samaritan woman being a WOMAN and completely overlooking that she's a SAMARITAN.
At my childhood church the emphasis was that even a Samaritan who followed idols could recognize the messiah when she met him and we didn't think twice about her being a woman. And we're a traditionalist "fundamentalist" Baptists church.
The same idea is applied to the Good Samaritan. That despite the Samaritan's generally being enemies of the Jews there was a compassionate good Samaritan who was willing to help.
I don't know how the story of the Good Samaritan was interpreted in the middle ages but generally now it seems to be interpreted as an act of human compassion from an unlikely people.

    I see the prodigal son story as an explanation of the house of yehudah and the house of yisrael, the house of yehudah was disobedient but assuredly established and the house of yisrael was lost in their crookedness and squandered the inheritance with the pigs, the father's joy at the return of the wandering son upset the son that was always there, the father explains everything he has was always his also but the son who was "lost" was returned and the family is reunited back together;
This is a beautiful picture of the two houses (yehudah and yisrael) brought back together as one, as the prophet yehezqel wrote, taking the children of yisrael from the nations where they have gone and make them one nation

Christians like to say that the story of the prodigal son is talking about the Heavenly Father, Jews and Gentile. But there is something inherently wrong about the description, because the responsible son said that the Father never awarded him with his faithfulness, not even a lamb. That's strange. That's not the Father described in the Tanakh, who rewards frequently. So, to make sense of the story, I have to conclude that this is a story of an earthly father who is partial towards the irresponsible child, who is unfair and unwise. Different cultures, hidden meanings. Moses & 12 Tribes, David & Leaders, Jesus & 12 apostles, yep, pretty sure it is good luck... however, in a Greek book 📖, it is very, very bad luck... You think 🤔 it might be those legions sitting outside that makes the First Council of Nicea play games? Don’t know why I think the way I do... hmm, wait, it’s because I liked fairy tales long ago, read mythologies, and learned myths were keys 🔑 to understanding... So I know 13 is unlucky for Greeks, military service in Japan taught me 4 & 7 were unlucky numbers... Later, learned same true for China... Numbers mean different things to different people and to different cultures... 13 books 📚 assigned to Paul and calling a lie glorification in the very first book of Paul’s in the Bible... The teachings of Jesus can be divided into two categories: Those teachings taken/plagiarised from the Talmud by the Gospel writers (e.g. Matt. 7:3-5: "why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye and not see the beam in your own"), or anti-semitic story-telling of the Gospel writers designed to disparage the Jews whilst elevating the Gentiles (e.g. Samaritans or Roman centurions to represent the Gentiles). Much less wisdom remains in Jesus' teaching, once you see through the Gospel writer's intention to gaslight/disparage the Jews and to replace them with Gentiles (Christians). Some examples of this replacement are seen in the Prodigal Son, the cursing of the fig tree, the "good Samaritan", the parable of the workers in the vineyard in Matt. 20:1-16, and the parable of the vineyard owner and his tenants in Matt. 21:33-46.

As a Christian I had no idea that the story was taught in that way (that the prodigal son was the gentiles). I would say they are in error if they teach it this way. As for the Romans 3:10 about us being unable to justify ourselves, that’s precisely how God teaches us. Waiting for us to turn back again from relying on ourselves to persevere and instead rely on him for our strength and perseverance. We see the error of our ways and return again to him. That’s the same for the Jew and the gentile.

I didn’t leave a rely to start a debate but as a Christian I can’t just ignore. Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things - For some were purified by water or fire. Are according to the law purified with blood - Offered or sprinkled. And according to the law, there is no forgiveness of sins without shedding of blood - All this pointed to the blood of Christ effectually cleansing from all sin, and intimated, there can be no purification from it by any other means. You cannot have anything but a perfect sacrifice. None are good but God.
      Habakkuk 1:13
God's nature - "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity"
      Isaiah 64:6
Human nature - "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."
      Isaiah 59:1-3
Consequence - "But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness."
      Isaiah 53:5-6
Salvation through Jesus - "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."
      Psalm 32:1-2
Past, present, future sins paid for - "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile."

I have been a Christian for many years, and there is a verse in the story of the prodigal son that I never hear people speak about. Usually the older son is thought about scornfully, but that is NOT what the TEXT SAYS. The text says this:
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
    1. He calls him SON
    2. He says that his son is EVER WITH HIM
    3. He says that ALL HE (the father) has is HIS (the older son's)
So God does not reject the older son, as a matter of fact he AFFIRMS HIM.
What the father does next is help his son understand the situation. He says this:
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
The father saw the young son as DEAD. We don't think of the young son as dead, because we know where he was, but to the father he was dead. The father explains that to the older son and helps him see the gravity of the situation, and the joy of the young son's repentance.

"He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him". Why didn't the Jews of antiquity believe in or accept Jesus as their lord and savior? Because there was no Jesus. The story is a myth, a fib, a fable, a fairy tale. Per the New Testament, Jesus was a super star, thousands of people gathered for his sermons, everybody knew him. So why does Jesus appear only in the New Testament and not in the work of any contemporaneous historian? Because the four Gospels are not history, but historical novels, works of fiction that include few real people, like Herod and Pontius Pilate. That's why the Jews of the time knew nothing about him -- there was nobody to know.

Okay I have to say this, because todays age, well this is over your heads. Tovia points out the anger of the “ good” son at his brother getting a party. That this ideas is wrong somehow. Now back then people had many children, today, not so much.
Now my mother in law has 14. And I will absolutely guarantee you this behavior and attitudes happens. I can understand it, because I’ve seen it. I’ve seen her pour out “ extra” to a child that has treated her absolutely, ugh, in the worst possible ways. ……… and yes I have seen some of the others who were. “ good” become irate with her. And yes not because of what she did, but because she never did it for them. They will promote arguments that last for days. So….. someone back then, having a lot of kids could understand where Jesus was coming from.
Now everyone of today got the point that the father is the father from Heaven, and yes they did back then too. But now they understood the love of the Father. It’s the same love we have for our children. Honestly if one of you had a missing child are you telling me you wouldn’t rejoice if they came home. You’ve just never had to deal with the grumpy child, well I have. And you have to explain to them why you did what you did, just as in the parable.
    Hope that helps
On a side note, I find it funny Tovia doesn’t point out that the upset child loses nothing. All his brother gets is a party. He doesn’t get more, but his father rejoices to see him. So if Isreal is the son, guess what, Tovia just pointed out Israel loses nothing. New Testament not anti semetic.

      ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭11:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬
It’s the enmity between Judah and Israel God the Father is here addressing therefore claims of it being antisemitic is ridiculous because it’s about Israel, it’s ironic a man who claims to be a rabbi and a jew does not see this. The New Testament was written by Jews to Israelites which was for the benefit of all mankind therefore it can in no way be antisemitic people ignorantly use that term in a attempt to stop the truth from being spoken but it will not work.

I believe it is Judah and Israel as well. I just thought I’d state the obvious, with all the anti semetic rhetoric. That if Tovia wanted to say Israel well he forgot Israel loses nothing. The claim is always being made with replacement theology and what not. So this parable is somewhat against his usual theology and I’d thought it was notable. Explainably why he thinks it should be removed. And no one will notice either way but………..hey why not say it?

Note: the term Christianity by itself (as used in this TH-cam and many others) is not a religion. The religion which had caused great evil in human history for last 19 centuries in the past is Christianism [e.g., Crusades, Holocaust, etc. Only pandemics killed more people than religion]. There are many faces of Christianism - Catholicism, Protestantism, etc. Catholic Christianity would be Christianity presented by Catholics, etc., etc. As for the word 'Christ', it is now no more than his surname; its meaning 'anointed one' is obscured. Christ of Christianism is not same as Mashiah in the New Testament, which is not same as a Mashiah figure in TaNaKh. Jesus of God Jesus religion is unrelated to Yeshua in the Gospels - He was one of Torah keeping Yehudim ('Jews'). He was not Christian, nor a Christian (O Gosh). He is not the founder of Christianity, nor of Christianism. Christianity began as Yeshua movement in the Gentiles. Christianisms are founded by the Churches; many churches are founded or started by a man also (e.g., Luther, Calvin, Joseph Smith, Russell, Armstrong, etc.). No person existed by the name of Jesus in the history before 16th century of the Bible translation by pre-modern English.
