    I love Augustus but I was really entertained by your lecture of Roman literature towards the end

    Cheers Adrian. Something intellectually interesting to listen to. A blessed relief.

    Love the little joke about Gussie the cat, sat preening himself, so now that the empire is good and stable, he's taking himself off for some heavy duty sleeping! 😁❤

    I've often wondered... What would Octavian have been without Agrippa?

    I would love a series on Augustus’ political mentors. Characters such as Balbus, Pedius, Plancus, and even his stepfather had to help him immensely when he was first starting out on his journey to power. Agrippa and Macaenas get loads of attention, but they were young as well. He had to have experienced operators to get him to the top.

    Thank you for continuing to make these videos! Whether it's "The Conquered and the Proud", Q&A, movie analysis, or anything else, your content is always a joy.
    Enjoy the upcoming holidays!

    Thankyou for a great analysis! Would love you to review the miniseries "Masada", particularly the depiction of the Roman army (which seems a little more detailed than in other series/films). Cheers

      Just watched the chick flick lifetime version, The Dovekeepers… but I can’t picture AG ever analyzing it 😂

    Dr. Goldworthy, did you find an editor to add maps to your videos? You mentioned it in an interview that you need help or an application to do that. Let me know if you need help. No, I'm not hustling for coin. I have my own channels (different TH-cam ID) so I do videos all the time.

    Awesome video Dr. Goldsworthy!
    I discovered your channel through your collaboration with Invicta and already subscribed. You should definitely do more collaborations at least with some of the bigger amateur history channels so more of the younger people can benefit from your content.

    I’ve often wondered whether Augustus governed in the diligent and responsible manner (okay, having done what it took to secure power….) because he felt that was the right thing to do, or because he was mindful of Caesar’s fate and felt this was the route to survival.

    • @eeeee322
      @eeeee322 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would think it's both, it's not like he had an easy job so for him to put so much effort and energy into being "emperor" for decades probably means he was truly concerned with governing in a responsible way, the alternative seems too cynical to me.

      Much more the latter, imho. One doesn’t orchestrate such a clever facade by accident. Also, I’m not sure what’s “right” about his methodology, other than it’s being a smart means to maintain his overthrow of the republic lol

    I think Julius Caesar must have seen in him the potential for greatness when there were many other heirs he could have chosen from.
