The sheer amount of analytics and information there is between the pitcher and batter battle is mind numbing. To me it’s the most difficult confrontation in sports-physically and mentally. A pitcher must throw his pitches harder than 95% of humans can throw a baseball while throwing different types of pitches at the same arm speed with the same arm angle to different locations at different speeds while outmaneuvering his opponent. The batter must be mechanically sound and try to outthink the pitcher and decide whether to swing or not in .4 seconds against an average Major League fastball. Add in the constant battle of information and adjustments, and it becomes crazily complex. It’s why some adjust and succeed or have an “off year” or even just “lose it.” That is why there is so much attrition and so many failures. Some succeed early, get exposed, never adjust and rebound, and fizzle out. It is a didficult and cruel sport, and while I dig it, man does it have too much information and statistics (but in a good way).😀
It certainly helps to be as smart as Bauer is. He was an engineering major at UCLA. Id like to make a bet now that he will be a pitching coach or a manager one day.

They should try putting on 3d motion capture sensors for entire seasons and analyse their pitching mechanics for every statistical data set as well as home v road, ambient temperature, air pressure, id also keep a log of breathing and heart rates and compare them all to see if there are subtle variations in the negative situations that could be compared against successful efforts.
Roberto Perez will be the number one catcher with the Gomes trade. Trevor loves to pitch to Perez, so that is a good start. Perez is an excellent receiver, a below average hitter.

What he described isn't really considered analytics.. He's using all the information out there and compiling it into reports/images that he can use to make decision regarding strategy.. If he was really using advance analytics.. the reports would be telling him, you need to do this for so and so.. ie some program would spit out a report and has made a decision for you..

It is none of Bauer's business if the company's claims are unrealistic, unless the business prompts the consumer to draw a connection with Bauer. Second, Bauer would need to let everyone use his likeness once he set the precedent and he might be sued for discrimination if he allowed this use but not another. I am not saying that Bauer's suit has merit because I know nothing about it, I am telling you that your rationale is wrong.

Evolution of analytics is going to end up creating a league full of Joey Gallos and no starting pitchers. Say goodbye to great defensive wizards, they won't be needed. Say goodbye to pure contact hitters. Say goodbye to speed demons on the bases. Without the variety of different types of stars the league will get more and more dull.
