    After breaking my winch cable last winter, I decided to install a pulley system on my Moose Industries 60" plow. I had some camera and stabilization issues so I did the best I could with editing. I hope this helps anyone out that has had similar issues with breaking winch cables. Check out the links below and be sure to hit that subscribe button!

    I just bought a pulley from
    tractor supply and put it on the loop where u put the hook on the plow,
    put the cable on the same way and attached the hook to rack. works the same exact way, but only cost 15.00, instead of 55.00 for the moose pulley

    What I want to know is why isn't the pulley included with the damn plow. I just bought a moose plow, ATV mount and tube for like $850 from a local dealer. It's not cheap and doesn't include a pulley. Greedy ass companies.

    I rigged up something similar to yours. Works great, smoother lift and the pulley gives you a finer adjustment.

      Unfortunately I haven't gotten the chance to use it because we haven't had any snow this winter (crazy!!), but from what I did use it after install, you're right it is so much smoother and I don't have to worry as much about breaking another cable.

    I just did a video with a similar mod. I was going to buy the one from Moose, but honestly, I emailed them half a dozen times and got no response, which kind put me off of them. I ended up just picking up 2.5” pulley and axel strap. Nice video, thanks for sharing.

      Honestly I had a terrible time trying to determine if the pulley system would work with my plow setup. Their website was pretty bad at showing compatibility, so when I ordered it I had no idea if it would really work. I'm glad it did, and it is a great addition to the plow! I'm surprised they don't include the pulley system with the plow when you order/buy it. I understand they probably make more money this way, but for those of us who learned the hard way with broken winch cables it would have been great to have a complete system right from the start.

  • @jamesglenn520
    @jamesglenn520 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should put an arm off the rack that extends out over the plow. That way it will lift evenly. I built one and but put the pully on the arm. The cable runs up and out to the pully and drops straight down.
    With that setup it is still pulling back against the machine some.

    how much weight is actually on the rack when you lift the plow?

  • @bryancherry9253
    @bryancherry9253 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does the add-on pully mount mount mess with your ability to lift the handle for change the plow angle? Probably not in your shop but when it's clogged with snow?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Bryan! No, it doesn't interfere much at all. With the snow that pushes into that area, I just brush some of it away to access the handle. I don't dig out all of the snow, just enough to grab the handle. I have never had it locked up because of snow but with a snow load on the plow and frame it is slightly more heavy to angle the plow. I would think that's normal though.

    I'm contemplating buying a Polaris Sportsman 700 that has the moose plow. Do you ever have any problems with your ATV not having enough traction while plowing or feel tire chains would help?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never had traction issues while plowing. I will use 4wd if the snow is wet and heavy, but I've never had to use the diff lock with 4wd. Most of the time if it's a light fluffy snow I keep it in 2wd and go with it. I'm sure a Polaris would do just fine with plowing 👍

    Did you have to buy the mounting brackets separate from the plow?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the delay in replying - yes, the mount is sold separately. I'm fairly certain I got the mount from my local powersports shop, but I just looked on Dennis Kirk and they have them on their site as well. Cost is around $75-100 for the mount, something like that.

    Where did you get that voltage gauge for the battery?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ordered a couple of them off of Amazon. I just did a search for LED voltmeter and ordered the ones with good reviews. I honestly didn't think it would last as long as it has, but so far so good! I have one on my garden tractor that has power all the time and it's going on 2 years or so without any issues. The one on my ATV is wired through the ignition switch so it only has power when the ignition switch is on with the key.

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It works great! There have been multiple comments about buying a simple pulley at a hardware store and putting it on a carabiner, which is all well and good. I realize it's a simple design but I've been using the plow this winter and still have not had any broken winch cables. All in all, this tells me Moose should make this a standard feature on their plows, but obviously they can make more money with people buying the pulley kit as an add on.

    wow, I had an 2007 king quad and have a 2012 now. why in the heck did Suzuki get rid of the center light, your missing out...anyway thanks for the video I just ordered one now. was having the same problems 👍

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I know! When I bought mine, I didn't realize the center mounted light was removed until I went to the dealership, AND the crazy thing is they brought it back in 2019! I guess enough people complained about it that owned a 2016-2018 model lol. The other "silly" thing is the headlight bucket/housing was completely unchanged from 2014 so you could basically swap over the headlight housing from a 2014 or 2015 into a 2016-2018 and run a wire to power the center light. On the other hand, at least it would appear Suzuki listens to customer feedback.

    What benefits do you get from this set up? How's is it better then the u bolt that was there?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Lego12066! Sorry for the delay in replying. The benefit to having the pulley system is to eliminate the hard angle and wear/tear on the winch cable. What happens with the U bolt is your winch cable has a severe downward angle to get to the U bolt. With that angle, you're essentially flattening the cable on the fairlead roller. After repeated flattening of the cable, it weakens that spot, and eventually with a hard pull the cable will break. I only made it one winter with my winch cable using the plow. So, instead of having to replace winch cables in the winter I found this pulley system to eliminate the hard angles. It works great! There are some guys out there who make their own pulley system using caribiners and a pulley, which works just as well and is cheaper than the mounted pulley from Moose ATV. Hope that helps!

      @davidpass7184 I have same setup and same issue as you. Been plowing for 3 years with the plow in one direction and it's annoying. I finally found some time to look at it and found the bolt that pulls the pin back hits on the pulley upright. I haven't figured out how to fix it yet. Have you come up with a solution?

    How well can you get at the lever to turn the blade?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Dave! It's really not too bad. There's a little less room and when you have winter gloves on it can be a pain. But, I actually have a harder time adjusting the angle when there's snow stuck to the plow and the weight is pulling down. I still think the pulley system should come standard with the plow.
