    The only real reasons that are mentioned in this video that might concern people who want to move to Colorado are the winter driving and the cost of homes and rent. Almost everything else in this video is subjective based on this man's opinion which is fine but things like sports team uniforms really shouldn't detract anyone from moving to Colorado.

    • @portalsofmadnes
      @portalsofmadnes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    • @kevinhamer2230
      @kevinhamer2230 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The winter driving is a cake walk in Colorado. Only place you can drive a 2 wheel drive vehicle through heavy snow in the mountains. It was one of my favorite things to do when I lived there. The worse the weather was, the more I HAD to be out there on the road.

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Kevin Hamer oh yeah piece of cake..... and then your car gets smashed up. But not because you suck at driving in the snow, no but because someone moved Colorado and doesn't know how to drive in the snow oops. All because you needed to go get some groceries or had to dare I say go to work. But in all seriousness driving in the snow out here can be a huge pain in the ass especially with the amount of people here now. I'm a CO native and have lived here my whole life so I'm fairly used to it but I hate driving in the winter out here and I personally wouldn't mind moving where there isn't any snow and a nice Beach :) I think some people might have an issue with it so I feel it's a valid concern and that's about it in this video. But if you're moving already from a snowy climate like up in the Northeast well then it's probably not going to be that bad for you. But moving from a state where you don't get snow or hardly any it can be a big change for you and could actually detract from someone moving here.

    • @andysargent6059
      @andysargent6059 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’d have to agree. The weather and prices are the only things I’d actually consider. Everything else is very subjective

    Briggs.... you did a fine job on Colorado.... I’ve been born and raised here for 59 years. The changes I’ve seen in just the last 5 years is astonishing.. Rent has gone crazy, home prices have tripled, and stop me if you’ve heard this before.... To many Californians!!! We basically have one interstate going north/south and one going east/west. Our traffic planners didn’t account for an influx of Californians. Thank you for this video. You can visit, now go home, is our motto! You pegged the weather too. It snowed the last 2 days in the hills, and thunder stormed on the plains. Tomorrow will be 75 degrees. 😎

      The Californication of Colorado has been going on longer than that. I lived there from 1993-2002. It was nice when we first got there. There were jobs and reasonably priced housing. THEN the Californians figured that out and everything started to change. When I left in 2002, I was already calling Denver a suburb of LA. I cannot imagine how much worse it has gotten. Add in all the snow (and the Californians who cannot drive in it) and it's a no thank you. I will say this though. Pretty much every native Coloradan I've met was cool AF. Had some good times with those good people. They know how to party.

      I agree!!! I LOVE Colorado. The scenery is magnificent. I've never been anywhere as beautiful at the Rocky Mountains. I used to tell people if I ever managed to get a job there it would take dynamite to get me out. I was wrong. Colorado has become infested with Californians. I don't think Trump should build a wall between the US and Mexico, it needs to go between the US and California. They've made their state unlivable, now they are spreading like a virus to every other place that is...or was...a decent place to live. God save us all.

    I lived in Denver for 41 years, then moved to a small town in Southern Colorado to escape the insanity.
    Denver used to be a great place to live, but the weed brought a huge influx, and it's a sanctuary city, (which our governor pretty much announced nationally), so that brought another influx. There are now *thousands* of homeless on the streets. Not only has rent gone way up, but there is an authentic housing shortage - literally no place to rent! About 40% of the homeless have jobs, but can't find/afford a place to live. Between intense job competition and sky-high rent/house prices, natives have been pushed out.
    As to those pot profits, a *huge* portion of what people pay for pot is the state tax on it, (I don't want to look it up, but I believe the tax exceeds 25%). One of the selling points on the pot was that it would bring in *billions* of dollars that would be used to improve the schools. On the ballot for this year's midterms, there were, once again, propositions for big tax increases for school improvements. As always, they stated that our schools were some of the worst in the nation. What happened to all those billions??? I don't know. Maybe they are having to make up for the fact that they have lost federal funds due to sanctuary status. The voters smartly said "no."
    Along with the homelessness comes needles/trash/crap left on the streets. One lady in an upscale neighborhood woke up last year to find a homeless couple doing the deed on her porch!!! I *am not* making that up. My Southern Colorado neighbor came to Denver to visit a couple of years ago. They went clubbing downtown and she said that they saw rats running around the street. We never had that before. It has been destroyed by too-rapid growth.

I would ride my Harley anywhere and everywhere with little traffic issues. Cripple Creek and Central City were the coolest ghost towns. Real estate prices were low, but absolutely crashed in the early 1980's. A friend bought a killer mountain chalet in Evergreen for $250 K back then. Denver was super dirty, that's why I went to the Springs. There were few jobs back then, for sure. I'm glad I experienced that Colorado then, because today, it's a frickin' zoo. Too crowded!

    It's not that we get hostile because people think there are things wrong with Colorado, we get hostile because the influx of people has caused massive problems in the Denver metro area. That's not so much a problem caused by the people that have moved here as it is the government for not working on the infrastructure.

    I used to live in Colorado back in '83. I really did like it a lot. Skiing, backpacking, history, and fishing. The last time that I was there was 2001. I really can't say what has changed in full detail, but I will keep my memories in check. I hope to be able to go back soon.

    11. True nature experiences are getting hard to find
    Maybe I’m just a curmudgeon, but I've always found it kinda hard to really enjoy Colorado’s great outdoors thanks to all the crowds these days. The guy who comes up to you while you’re taking a break and starts telling you the story of his life, the group of hikers who thinks nothing of carving their names into a rock in graffiti, the group who comes up onto the summit and starts cheering and giving each other high fives like drunken Broncos fans while the rest of us are trying to enjoy the views - all of these have happened to me this summer of solo Colorado hiking alone.

    It's true. I was born and raised in Colorado and the sudden population boom is very offsetting. Denver is really ghetto and dangerous now. I would not recommend walking home after dark downtown. Lots of homeless people, pollution and it smells nasty downtown. Cities in the metro areas like Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Arvada, Littleton etc used to be safe and be really nice places to live..now they are trashy and the rent is outrageous, apartment complexes are very picky about letting you move in. It is very hard to get an apartment if you don't have good credit and make 3x the rent you would pay per month in income. They have strict rules, extra fees for everything and every person (and pet) the laundry rooms, rec rooms and swimming pools are usually filthy..the laundry washers smell like old body fluids and I saw a turd in swimming pools at multiple apartment complexes I've lived at. Trust me, it's just not worth it!

    The weed problem extended: It has created an issue with transients/homeless to the point they are cropping up all over the place. They create unsanitary conditions in areas where they decide to squat and even try to live in areas they think is public domain when it is actually private property.
    Winter Drivers: Stay out of Colorado Springs, it is a military town, and no one there knows how to drive in snow/ice....let alone knows how to use a turn signal. Better know how to drive defensively or you'll find yourself in an accident.
    Rent extended: Even with colorado voting in a minimum wage increase of $12 by 2020, it still doesn't keep up with the cost of living due to rent and other daily expenses. Rent and Utilities alone will more than likely eat up a good portion of your monthly income...if not all of it depending on what you bring home.

    I took my first trip to Colorado only 4 weeks ago. And as you can see by my profile picture; I fell in love with it. It wasn’t about the weed or the city, it was the mountains and the green everywhere and the clean air. I’m still in high school and I don’t want to drag my wife and 16 kids there, I want to graduate and attend CSU for vet med and then help the animals there and be happy in the snow. I want it for the nature. I want to keep it clean and beautiful. So the natives can complain, but I want everything for the state you do, I was just born in Arizona. I truly feel like even though I’m from AZ, I belong in CO. And there’s nothing that will stop me from going there and fulfilling my dreams, not even the rent prices.

    • @ZiponGJ

      Now the rent prices are a little nuts, but there are still places you can live for reasonably cheap. I live in Englewood which is less than a mile away from Denver and I pay $1300 a month for a 500sq ft apartment, which believe it or not is pretty damn cheap. Fort Collins on the other hand is tough. Rent is getting higher and higher up there.

    I was happy to find your video about the state of CO. One thing I will say is this--CO is becoming a nightmare! Yes it is beautiful here, I too came from another area of the country. I came because it was peaceful and I loved the lands and respect them. I wanted the quiet wilds. I am sad that it has changed so much since i came here. I feel like you are right about several things, but boy oh boy, this is experiencing the pains of a great migration, like not seen since the gold-rush days. I'm talking of course about people moving here from other places like CALIFORNIA & WASHINGTON. People who come here and bring their money, and that creates a problem. The effects of this migration can be seen in the RENTS, and in the INSANE real estate prices, but it also drives everything else up too. This creates poverty and homelessness to those who are falling off the rung and just don't have the money to afford it. The income needed for a person to survive here, and not well, is 21.70 an hour. Most regular jobs only pay between $9 to $12 an hour. Is it any wonder that so many people are homeless? If you want to buy a home, you will be a pool of several, not 2, not 3, but sometimes 10 or 15 other couples/people to put an offer in. AND if you are not prepared to pay sometimes $$$10-15k /and more-above asking price, wait to hear nothing, deal with smug realtors that have a gold-mine at their fingers....well, you will be sadly mistaken. You are being conservative in my opinion. Every where you go out here, it is the same story. The housing is un-affordable, and the traffic, noise, crime, aggressive behavior, and driving, cost of food, emissions testing etc etc etc. It really is becoming the "new California". It is sucking. AND the projections are that it is set to continue on this path into the future. The mountains and wilds are beautiful,, but wherever you go up top, there's score of people, lines to get into the parks, and now so much so that a lot of places have raised their rates to cash in too. Colorado is ripe for capitalistic pigs. Hurrying out here to suck everything up, and sell, or rent at sky-rocketing prices. It makes me sick. I'm going to migrate soon, escaping Colorado!
