Roberta Flack has such a beautiful voice. "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was used in the 1971 Clint Eastwood film "Play Misty For Me". Roberta had a lot of great hits in the 70's such as "Killing Me Softly With His Song", "Feel Like Makin' Love" & some great duets with Donny Hathaway "Where Is The Love" & "The Closer I Get To You".

Her pitch and tone are pure perfection!!!! Her voice is so powerful yet soothing like a warm blanket. This is LIVE!!!!!!! No auto tune, no fills just pure pure vocal talent. She’s got the chops to wail, but she shows the mastery of breath control and to take us up and then back down. It’s too too good 👍🏽

I heard Roberta Flack AGAIN when I was 61 and it was the summer before I retired
I was newly in love and I heard (and saw like you now) one night Roberta singing this song and with every word and every note she sang she made what I was feeling at the time resonate even more... ..
A lot of people in our company knew that I was in love (word had just gotten around...) and people kept coming up to me and saying: "It seems as if you were floating about a meter above the ground.... yes, that's how it is when you're in love and Roberta Flack makes it noticeable and visible for everyone, it's her song

This song was written in 1957 by the Scottish folksinger Ewan MacColl, to express his love for American folksinger Peggy Seeger. Seeger recorded it as a simple folksong, a cappella (just her voice, no musical instruments). Roberta Flack's arrangement of this song utterly transformed it into something else entirely, a jazz standard.

You might be surprised to know this song was written by a Scottish traditional folk singer! Ewan MacColl was the man, who wrote it for his wife Peggy Seeger (or, as she later said, "well he *said* he did!"). Ewan MacColl's daughter Kirsty was a truly wonderful singer-songwriter herself, albeit in very different genres, starting out in pop, then a more adult orientated sound, and then incorporating more Latin American sounds into her music. Check out her songs like My Affair, Titanic Days, In These Shoes?, Free World, Don't Come The Cowboy With Me Sunny Jim, or Bad.

I always say that her studio recording of this song is the most perfect vocal performance I've ever heard. Listen to that version and tell all of your friends; I know you're young but there are some things that are such great works of art that they should be common knowledge for every generation that comes after. I would put her singing this song right up there with a Rembrandt or a Shakespeare work. It meets the definition of eternal quality.
