It's starting to get messier. At least they should have allowed 1/2 second increment after move 40 or something cause pieces are just falling here and there and players are making illegal moves because of this time control.
With many Russian players not playing, Alaskan knights is the most Russian team with 3 Russian speakers - Anish, Shakh and Nodirbek - no one from Russia though. Also, their team is named after Alaska, which was part of Russia at some point. 😂

6:41 Chess is never going to be a spectator sport if spectators are orchestrated like that. The players would themselves not feel it authentic. These Indian directors are making it like Indian and American reality shows with rehearsed audiences. Imagine a controller has to ask the Liverpool fans to sing "You'll never walk alone" before every match, before the camera rolls in. Even Magnus was giving the guy a look after he kept on doing it.

That's quick thinking on Nihal's part, to claim a draw. Arbiter decides on the claim and if it's given it's great else he is losing anyways on time.
The part where they are asking to chant for the players seems a bit weird. If they can do it in a setting like IPL(there's a DJ who plays music and asks to cheer) that would be better is what I feel

First of all, they cannot cheer during the matches, which is not true for the other sports. I understand you are trying to make this a spectator sport, but Chess has its own character. Chess audiences are also mostly not the type shouting ‘Magnus, Magnus!’. Would you bring cheerleaders dancing before games like in the IPL? No, right?

the point is that *without increment nihal would have won, but this was just a draw. this is not the first time people are playing without increment, this has been the standard rule for 0 increment games, if u have an extremely winning position at the time of appeal and i think for most of the game aswell (i don’t think they approve of draw if u were losing and then start winning at the last second) but are about to get flagged then u are allowed a draw.

@@synnamon6076 Without the increment Nihal would have lost by getting flagged, he barely had 2 seconds on his clock (that should have been the result). If they are granting a draw based on position, why is there no increment in the first place. One can easily come prepared, choose white, take time to get a winning position, when it's a second left, stop the clock with the guarantee of a draw. Sheer BS, just like Magnus said.
*(to your edit) Exactly, if with the increment Nihal would have won, whats the point of having no increment, when the outcome is still getting decided by the position, when the player is clearly getting flagged.

How can Anish be like that after such a loss. His team won I get it and it's a no increment rapid game but it's still hard to play it of as a strategy. You can say to lose is a strategy but like that no way.

Why is Nihal's game draw ?
Nihal was in a Winning position, he just had 2sec , he stopped the clock and asked for draw , and the arbiter announced it as draw
He claimed the draw because his position was completely winning but he was losing on time .
