My absolute favorite thing that I did for free on my recent trip to NYC was walking the High Line through the West Side. I went early in the morning, it was freezing, but I dressed in layers and went to explore. I was alone, so I just put headphones in and admired the beautiful street art, and architecture, and once I got to the end (I started on the Hudson Yards end), I got lost in Greenwich Village, it was a very peaceful experience, I didn't want to leave. Highly recommended.
@@DavidAnuszewski It is what used to be an elevated rail line that runs from Hudson Yards south to the Meatpacking District. They have turned it into a walking path above the city, it has a lot of street art, great photo spots, gardens, and it lets you see all of the different architecture on the west side. I highly recommend it!
They changed the "pay as you wish" policy in the Met (the Natural History museum still has it!) and now it's only for NY state residents and New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut students.
@@margut2830 Not true. It's pay what you wish for general admission. However, if you want to go to any of the special exhibitions, you have to pay a set fee.
Great tips! I’ve taken advantage of most on your list and it’s a great time. Other free things: The Highline, NBC Today summer concerts, tickets to tv shows, Staten Island ferry, Saks holiday light show, etc. Found you today and now binge watching your vids specially with summer around the corner. I went to NY in 2019 and spent a total of about $1000 USD over my 3 week stay. I was staying with relatives and ate in for most meals so majority of my funds were spent on endless shopping, 2-3 dinner outings, my ride to NJ and DC and the Metro. I did so much and didnt spend as much. Went to so many public museums, Staten ferry ride, walking about Manhattan and central park (rather than taking Uber or the chariot rides), saw all the major monuments in DC, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, Times Square, State Building Tour, Kayaking, High Line walk, and so much more. Heading back this December with all these new ideas and a whole new itinerary in place! You dont need alot of money for a great time!
One of my favorite "free" things that I always tell visitors to do is to take the A/C to the High Street station and walk BACK into Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge. Sure, the subway isn't free, but if you're visiting you might have a Unlimited Ride MetroCard anyway.
