I’ve heard that figure skaters can pick up skiing fast i never knew the reverse was true!
Yes, that's true. Although I started skiing first, I didn't learn any slope jumps until I was 12 years (ish). That's when I actually started to do like all single jumps for figure skating. By the time I was 17, I self-taught myself how to do like cork 9's on skis and 540 on half-pipes with snowboard.
Bag of Goodness despite being a high-level figure skater back in the day (senior MIF/triple jumps) I have always been scared to go skiing since it seems so ripe for injury. (Skating is dangerous but it is a dangerous I know.) But I live like 40 minutes from year round snow on Mt Hood.
That’s true. I’m a figure skater. On my first day at the slopes, somehow I found myself skiing down reds. My friends didn’t believe that I’ve never skied before.
Likewise, I’m blown away by Guss’ skating skills; it took me forever to learn the single loop first when I started skating
@@@anomalily Yea, I'm still struggling with my doubles right now in skating, but I only like practice my slope style skiing when winter comes around. I didn't think skiing was any different from skating and thought it was easier to me because I would like to think that snow was less impact than ice. I have more than one injury from both sports, but I still think skiing is easier.
i grew up skateboarding and surfing, its all the same kind of thing.

Love how the two sports translate!! He obviously knows his body, knows how to land on a slippery surface, understands the physics of a jump. This is awesome.

I constantly watch videos of like dancers try other forms of dancing (like hip hop to lyrical) or contortionists try aerial silks or gymnastics and it's soooo satisfying and cool to see how the art forms correlate!
Yeah! the mechanics of skiing are the same as ice skating. its just that the your body leans a lot more forward when skiing to compensate for the additional length of the ski. I was a ski instructor for 7 years and it was always easy to tell when someone had skating experience because they would pick it up so quickly.

Heyits Hana quick explanation: first trick: take of backwards, do 3 sideway kinda flips and 1440 degrees of spins. The second trick is a rail trick: start rotation and do a 270 degrees rotation and a 270 degrees onto a rail, grind it and then do a 630 degrees rotation off the rail continuing the way you took off. Yes, that’s difficult, no, I can’t do that.. Gus can!
I knew from my own experience learning to skate that some skiing skills were transferable but holy fuck how has Gus not been doing this for at least several MONTHS, he's SO GOOD for someone who only just even got figure skates

I like how Adam seemed so nice and casual in this interview. Honestly, I think he may have a future doing interviews because he seems to have the affect of making a person feel comfortable. Broadcasting and interviewing can def be in his future.

Probably the same reason why there are no (or very few) men in synchronized swimming. That is to say: bullshit.
I looked it up once, there's no ISU rules against it, and the wording is like "smaller partner" etc. I can see it happening in ice dance before pair skating first though. Or maybe before that, a woman being partnered with a man smaller than her and lifting him
@@randomchick1234 I am not sure on the topic, I just recall watching some documentary (or maybe reading in the news?) that there was still some sort of pushback against men participating in certain "feminine" sports.
@@randomchick1234 Sinead Kerr and John Kerr (ice dancers) sometimes do lifts where Sinead lifts her brother, for example in their 2010 Olympics free skate. She isn't taller than him though, they're about the same height.

Dang I felt that. I’ve been working on axels off ice and drills on ice for a year and I’m still under rotated 😂 But we’ll just need to keep consistently working on it and one day, we’ll be able to land our axels too :)
Nikoru Cupcake I was on the verge of quitting before I landed mine. Was planning on giving notice 3 days time, then I landed it :). Lucky, as skating is my passion now more than ever.

Awesome~I've coached for over 25 years & I've not seen someone pick up so quickly (especially an adult) like Gus did. Mind you, he's an elite Olympic athlete so I should not be surprised but this was so fun to watch. Loved this!
Gus is awesome. But I recall from the Nightline piece he and Adam did together during the Stars on Ice tour last year that Gus played some hockey as a kid. So he's not a total newbie. Still impressive though.
