  • How to remove the hammer gap and make the cylinder spinning freely on a Colt SAA from Umarex. It also works on Crosman Remington 1875 since the mechanical part is exactely the same.
    The revolver can't fire after this modification but it's completely undoable to restore the original state.

    I just completed my hammer gap fix with your video. I love the way the cylinder sounds when you rotate it now. Thanks for your tutorial. It was a simple process. Thanks so much for posting this. It was hard pulling and keeping that mainspring back long enough to get the hammer on. The barrel was a devil. I reassembled the gun after the hammer job and then worked out the outer barrel as it came loose eventually. I hammered the pins in from the outside and it's great now! Just like yours! thanks again!

Although I was only looking/tinkering with part to do this modification. I’d say the next thing I’d try to do is make it lighter. Still heavy to do gun tricks with but overall satisfied with the modification.

    I did this hammer gap mod to my 7.5” nickle model tonight. I found an easy way to move the hammer spring was to remove the small bits as in the video, then while pressing on the hammer lug, pull the hammer back to full cock and let the trigger hold it there while jamming a thin, flat piece of metal under the hammer and between the spring and the body of the gun. Once in place, gently remove the hammer and replace it in the full forward position and over the tensioned hammer spring should pop into the correct slot. Carefully replace the small pieces and then replace the sideplate. The whole thing took less time than it did to type this. This is a neat mod that is totally reverseable if I should ever want to shoot the gun. It really looks and sounds real. Thank you for this post.

I have not done the barrel mod but did do it to a KWC .357 Python a couple of years ago. Not sure if I'll do it to my pair of .45's, as they will be mainly for display. They look great now the hammer is fully home. I have a nickel plate version and a blank fire one as well.

    I did this transformation on my Colt SAA Peacemaker. I didn't like the free cylinder because without the barrel the BBs lose direction. As for the hammer, after positioning the spring in the other position, I realized that the gas escapes as it ends up activating the valve. Anyway, I left it as it came from the factory. For decorative purposes, it's fine but for functional purposes I don't recommend it.

In addition to the two Colts (the old finish and Blue finish), a Remington 1875, a Smith & Wesson Schofield 1877 and a Winchester 1894 rifle. I also have 3 Colt SAA, a Remington 1875 and a Schofield in my airguns collections, but most of my guns are black powder revolvers.
      With the Colt SAA Umarex you can also use pellets, as for the Remington 1875 that is delivered with both cartridge types, BBs and pellets. I don't know if it's really necessary to use specific pellet cartridge on the Colt SAA but one of my 3 models is a pellet specific version (it can't be used with BBs) with a different set of cartridges and a rifled barrel. When I use my other BBs models with pellets, I use the cartridges from the pellet specific model. Normally the pellet cartridges from the Remington should work with the Colt, this is the same format.

    Hello, I was wondering what your thoughts are about getting a Kolser replica or a Umarex Colt airsoft replica?
    Since I'm more into airsoft I was thinking about the Umarex but it seems to me that the Kolser looks better.
    What are your thoughts about it?

    • @LauCass
      @LauCass  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, it depends on the gun model. I have some Denix and Kolser non firing Colt SAA replicas and the Umarex SAA is really better regarding the mechanical parts. Kolser is a bit better than Denix but the SAA model is not really good compare to a real steel, I prefer the Umarex. If you are interested in other old west gun replicas the new Kolser Navy 1851 is really good, they really improved the quality on this model and it's very close to a real steel, all parts of the gun are cloned from a Pietta 1851 black powder gun. The best non firing replicas I have are from MGC (Japan) and all models are really good. But it's hard to find them now since these replicas are from 1970's and no more produced.

      @@LauCass Hello, first of all thanks for your in depth reply! The model that I'm interested in is the Colt SAA 5'5", I would like to have one just for spinning and decoration. Some questions regarding the Umarex:
      - Is the Umarex closer to the real steel and how is the hand feel of it compared to the real one and a Kolser?
      - Are those custom black wood grips for the Umarex because the standard grips were plastic IIRC? If so, potentially where could I buy them?

    • @LauCass
      @LauCass  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@naajzzzHello, from my point of view the Umarex is really better than a Kolser. The purpose of the mod in the tutorial is to make it feeling like a real steel when you manipulate it. The cylinder spinning is a real pleasure after modification and it's not possible to do this with a Kolser SAA. Moreover the balance of the Umarex is really good and I love the hand feeling of the Umarex. The only one thing that is not really accurate on the Umarex is the grips size, it's higher than a real one (due to the space needed for CO2 sparklet).
      The black grips are not wood, I just painted the plastic grips in black on this one. You can find real wood grips for Umarex SAA (and some other old west replicas) on this web site, but it's a bit expensive: www.woodengripsandmore.de/c/holzgriffschalen/umarex-colt-saa-holzgriffschalen

The hammer spring will get fucked up in the process meaning your going to have to keep it as is for the rest of the time unless you call umerax to get it repaired. The reason there is a gap is so the hammer doesn’t rest on the c02 since the hammer gap was fixed there is going to be a constant waste of co2

      @@LauCass I wouldn’t mind having the hammer gap because I still want it to fire, but to get the cylinder free spin, would shortening the inner barrel so it’s barely touching the cylinder be a better alternative instead of removing it entirely? Because removing the inner barrel would cause the firing to have low accuracy and shorter distance, but if you just shorten it to the point it isn’t locking the cylinder, barely touching it, it should only drop the accuracy and range just a tiny bit, right? This was, we get the best of both worlds, being able to fire and free spin the cylinder. If this can be done, how do you shorten the inner barrel?

      Perchè questa modifica rende la replica non funzionante, c'è scritto nel video.
      Con questa modifica al primo "sparo" la valvola farebbe uscire tutto il co2.

    It looks like to do the hammer mod there's nothing special other then changing position of hammer spring ?
    As for cylender spin...your removed the barrel.
    With hammer mod soes cow leak?
    You removed the inner barrel, with out the inner barrel you can not shoot the gun. If by chance you could your shots would go wild and there would be zero accuracy and very low fps.
    I would live both the hammer mod and the free spinning but I need to retain my accuracy.
    I love your video however the impression.i get is now neither of those can fire and 8f can.will.have zero accurracy low fps and very low range.

      Did you even read what I'm saying at the beginning of the video (text in red)? Yes of course this mod makes the gun not firing, the goal is to get a demo gun with mechanic similar to a real steel, that's it. Anyway the mod is completely reversible in a few minutes.

  • @nielsschmidten6560
    @nielsschmidten6560 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In the early days of SAA, the hammer was placed directly in front of the primer and a small tap on the hammer was enough to fire the cartridge.
    Experienced shooters have therefore left the top chamber of the drum empty to prevent this from happening, but they lost one shot.
    That's why clever engineers have put a lot of brains into making the revolver safer and introduced this gap. Unfortunately, you didn't understand that and reversed it.
    There's a good reason lay people aren't allowed to work on guns.
    If that were a real gun, I'd have to congratulate you on your suicide special.

    • @LauCass
      @LauCass  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's an airgun replica transformed as a non firing replica. On this airgun replica the gap is really huge and the modification is just to make it look like a real steel, no mre. It's you who understand nothing ;)

      I must admit, this gap looks a bit strange, but has a good reason and this is, what I wanted to point out.
