Not gonna justify any sort of discrimination but people need to understand that everyone has got their own opinion. I am a brahmin and we have given our second floor on rent .but whenever the tenant come for negotiations at the beginning only we inform them that during shravn ,navratri and chhath puja they cannot bring non vegetarian. This one Muslim family agreed on this which is why we allowed them but then on chhath puja not only did they bring non veg but took it terrace and had it there . For chhath puja we usually grind wheat to make prasad which is why we had kept the wheat to dry on terrace . Now coz of this we faced so much of trouble. And just in case u are a non bihari, chhath puja is a very auspicious festival and we can't do a single mistake while observing it .later we asked them to leave and there contract was also but still they didn't leave for next 4 months. No doubt there is a stigma for muslims... I remember Emran Hashmi reporting this a few years back... It's largely becoz of 92 riots. And to some extent 9/11 of US. Muslims in mumbai are restricted to areas of Byculla, Dongri, Nagpada, Mankhurd, Govandi, Mumbra and ghettos in and around.
As born and brought up in Mumbai and die hard Mumbaikar, it is very shameful to see such narrow mindset of people nowadays. We have lived in a proper cosmopolitan environment for decades but nowadays such discrimination is happening quite frequently...not just inter religion but intra religion too...very sad.
There was a Muslim society entirely, no Christians even allowed and you would get stares even if you come near the buildings if you looked non Muslim. Your secularism exists as far as you are not Muslim. So let's see some show from the other side.
Why target a particular religion? In Mudlim dominated area of our city, the other community people gets the same treatment. Those issues are never highlighted.

It has always been the impression in my mind for long. Anyways the couple have found a home and they won't have to swim during rains to get groceries. Good for them.
Finding a home being a muslim is very tough in Mumbai. This is a harsh reality that I also faced and still facing. Discrimination and religious profiling is a big part being a tenant in Mumbai. Feel very bogged down and let down by fellow Indians and this government.
I think there needs to be a law against discrimination. Anyone denying basic rights to citizens needs to be fined or put behind bars. This is the reason india will remain backward
Not surprised. Mumbai is a sharply communal city when it comes to living quarters, I have experienced it myself first hand as a tenant. Very clear lines are drawn in almost all neighbourhoods and societies are also very clear about their preferences. Most of them are prefer to package it under the veg or non veg category but its part of the ongoing systemic rot. But then you can't say much in a city where builders market towers for selling, as veg and non veg, to charge a premium. Mumbaikars are usually in the dark about this because they never go through the rental and house hunt ordeal. It's best to pick your battles and move on as outsiders.
Unless you are earning good & have sufficient savings, Mumbai is a very difficult city to live in. Esp housing & daily commute. And its worse for people in the earlier career stage or below 30 years of age. The struggles are too many.

If you read the islamic texts and what it says about us the disbelievers and India's history with islamic invasion and terrorism. You'll know the reason behind this so called discrimination.
Try to educate yourself about who is getting discriminated here and who is discriminating...there was no requirement of mentioning the name of community of that alumnus.... discrimination is prevalent and a numbskull is most likely to raise a question on that
People of any community like to stay together. It's nothing controversial. Whether it is Muslims or Hindus.

And they even fought with us .now we only keep bihari or UP tenant ( i am from kolkata)

Feel so sorry for this couple, we have miserably failed and fallen as a society
Why target a particular religion? In Mudlim dominated area of our city, the other community people gets the same treatment. Those issues are never highlighted.
Galti hindu ki hai again. Always blaming hindu man......
Beautiful sorted couple. I wish them all the best. Kurla is actually a good place, now.
Such a nice couple. And for somebody who is so accomplished the guy is down to earth and humble. I wish them all the best in their future endeavours. Such people can really enhance the culture of cosmopolitanism in our cities.
I am all up for Bhaichara and all but I fail to understand that whenever the community does any wrong why not the particular community voices up..never seen on twitter or any social media platform that they condenm any such action and it's not on their name..playing victim is very easy..and it's very controversial to put a thumbnail and description starting with M word..as if finding a home for Hindu ppl are easy..also vishal should have mentioned that if a H family lives in M area..they would be forced to leave..or bring a tenant who lives in such area..they we call it unbiased..
Even singles / bachelors find it difficult to buy or rent a house .
Kurla drainage system has improved a lot no water logging and even if it is it drains out quickly compared to Andheri subway or khar subway BKC Andheri Santacruz Navi Mumbai Ghatkopar Chembur and south Mumbai all are very much connected and phoenix Mall is also there so Kurla is now not backward it's affordable with great connectivity and now it will be very close to Bullet train station also where In BKC station is getting developed and BKC underground metro and metro 2b second metro line.
Usually it's Hindu majority areas in Mumbai that have the issue of water logging. No kidding. Whether dadar, parel, hindmata, sion, kings circle or vasai virar.
Maybe if people's experience of this faith had not been so bad for 1000s of years
Hindus killed by Muslims in bangladesh
Respect hindu culture everything will be ok
I think there needs to be a law against discrimination. Anyone denying basic rights to citizens needs to be fined or put behind bars. This is the reason india will remain backward
There is. Nobody can be denied tenancy on the basis of caste/religion. There is law in this country!
@@sfzsid Well, it is both ways. Indian cities are huge. An appropriate place is always found eventually.
It's best to pick your battles and move on as outsiders.
christians face this discrimination?
Unless you are earning good & have sufficient savings, Mumbai is a very difficult city to live in. Esp housing & daily commute.

Very likeable couple. Smart and learned. Problem in general has been over last many years where there has been situation where extremist from one community has created problem for entire community.
Sadly its not about extremism since extremism is in every religion but it is about moderates not standing up and be vocal and critical about this extremism due to fear of maybe many things. I feel thats the reason these things happen.
People are not as vocal to call out on beheading as vocal to call out on lynching, since both are aggressive and against one religion.
The fear of fatwa or target on your back looms if you go too aggressive against certain extremist.
Great justification

I wish you would had felt the same feeling for Hindus in Pakistan. In Mumbai we had past experiences of Bomb blast , terrorist attacks . So this is whole reason of not getting a flat. Don’t give this some other name to this.
@@rahulbhandary3952 I have much stronger feelings about Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan, 26-11, Bharat's internal and external security. In general I understand the danger that communities with a high number of extremists including among their leadership pose to safety. All due precautions need to be taken care of (maybe systems are not there yet, but should be put in place - deep search on people's background is possible as a service that scours social media accounts, etc..), but we cannot fall down to discriminating against individuals, especially 2 obvious accomplished professionals from leading institutes of our country. IF we do this we give a full 200M minority group to Pakistan, China, Turkey, and even US to gain elverage against us.
