Brake Light Flashing and Beeping Volkswagen Jetta Golf Passat

  • This video will show how I fixed my blinking or flashing brake light on a Volkswagen. Another issue that has caused this for me in the past was a faulty hand brake switch. I always used the correct fluid by the owner's manual when filling your reservoir. Please also remember that you should make sure that your brakes are in good condition and that you do not need a brake service.

    I accidentally discovered this when I was lounging in my 2007 Passat. I hat my toe pushing on the parking brake button for approximately 20 seconds without noticing and heard a beep and saw things flashing. They stopped when I repositioned myself to see what was going on. Then I realized my position and tried to hold the button down myself and see if I can recreate the problem. Yeah. Timed with a stopwatch it’s 20 second hold to create an error. The button can also cause this if it’s jammed or shorted together. Just another fix tip if this doesn’t work

      Thanks a bunch for watching my video video and taking the time to comment. Truthfully the best and most reliable way to diagnose the system is with a scan tool to know what codes are stored. If you don’t have a scan tool your are limited to checking fuses and fluids for issues. Otherwise it could be a multitude of issues. I know this is limited information but let me know what ends up happening, much luck and keep me updated.

    You need to just service your brakes and replace the pads and not just put fluid because then it will spill out when you do change the pads if you just add fluid. Just a thought.

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching my video and taking the time to comment. It is always best practice to fully maintain your brakes and service then accordingly. Many VW’s even have brake pad sensors to let you know when the brake pads need service. As for my situation the fluid needed to be topped off for the beeping to go away. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to share your opinion.

      Hey catalin jumperuu, thanks for watching my video. If you are certain that your level sensor is working in the fluid reservoir, maybe you can check value on VCDS. If all that is in tact then, I would send out my ABS module ( just the electronic part) to get tested. Places that re-manufacture these units also test them for a bench fee. It is not that hard to take out moderate skill level. Please get back to me on your findings. If you need more assistance with who can do that work let me know it is not a shop just a business that deals with electronics you can mail your unit to. Please consider subscribing to me it would help me a lot, thanks.

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok the ABS speed sensor should definitely throw a code or you can just look at the VCDS for value change and if it is responding. BUT if you have no stored codes likly not the sensor, unless you recently got a code for speed sensor.

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Obviously check your fluid levels, but in your case you may have a bad wheel speed sensor. The only way to truly get a good diagnostic is to have a scan tool.

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ramzi Tarbouche, in my point of view, the fault is most likely your abs module. Depending on your year, make and model the job maybe easy or a bit more difficult to remove. Now I do not know how mechanically inclined you are so whether you will fix yourself or a shop. It is the abs module that needs to be removed and best thing is to send it to a remanufacturer and have them rebuild it there is a great company in Massachusetts, I do not advertise for anyone so I will not mention by name but a simple remanufacture VW abs module will bring up that business. Keep in mind if they rebuild it you save a lot of money, it is most likely just the ABS controller not the whole hydraulic unit.
      KEEP IN MIND the dealer will most likely not offer you this option you need to go to a shop who is willing to do this. Let me know what you do I am very interested.

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ramzi TARBOUCHE there are remanufactures everywhere all over the world just search VW abs module remanufactured Canada. The great thing about remanufacturing is there is no programing. You may have to initialize the ABS but that is very easy if you get a VCDS, which I recommend if your working on your own car, it will save you money and you will have a dealer level tool, meaning you can do everything yourself. You can find them on the bay or buy it from Ross tech.
      I do not recommend a used ABS unit and be very careful even if you find a new unit for cheap on the bay, often times the application will be correct but the hardware and software version will be different and you will not be able to program it and waste money.

    Bruh, ok ppl most of the time it's nothing this deep. If your electric button and it's light on the dash are just flashing and pressing the button won't do anything. holding your break pedal down and the electric button at the same time till it resets and both stop flashing does the trick.
    So
    1- hold break pedal down
    2- hold electric break button down while still holding break pedal down. Hold both down till the light on the button and dash stop flashing.
    3- it should stop flashing and the electric break light on the dash will be on to say that the electric break is on, as it normally would, some cars you can even hear it come on. Then u should be able to press the button again to take the electric break off like normal. Done

      I accidentally discovered if you hold that electronic button down for 20 seconds (stopwatch time) it activates this error as well. It’s the easier to test option imo. I’d start there and work your way down.
