I honestly don't know why you stated 3 degree difference in water temperature will kill your fish. It most certainly doesnt and I've done this many of times. It's all about slow and easy introduction.

Hi Dave. I totally agree with you. Slow decrease in temperature over a period of time, nothing fast. What I mean in the video is if you introduce a fish into the water and there's a large temperature difference, it can shock the fish, sometimes even kill it (I've know it happen on peoples ponds I maintain when they've introduced new Koi). So as a good rule of thumb, a 3 degree difference is about the limit. Then it's 1 to 2 degrees per day lower until the temperature has reached your desired level if you're coming from a QT. Hope that's a little clearer in what I was trying to say :)

If you have Ph and other water fluctuations you could try hyrdolit mg . It is a filter media that dissolves gradually in the water to give very stable water , 2 to 5 mm cylindrical balls you simply put them in a very fine mesh bag and place in filter system or pond at the rate of 1 kilo per thousand gallons and then simply check every couple of months if bags need topping up . you can buy it in 25 kilo tub for around a hundred pounds. I used to have a 6000 gallon pond and a tub would easily last a couple of years. I used to get it from a company called rs minerals in Cleveland uk.

Thanks for your reply. This is certainly something I'm going to look into as I do tend to have a high PH.

@@Mythril1976 there is a video on youtube " shower mods to reduce koi pond ph and get it stable" it was koi guru peter Waddington who recommended hydrolit to me and never had issues with the water after adding it

      Hi Lee.
I use one of two things. Either Kusuri Masuizai Koi Sedate or Clove Oil at 10 drops per 5 litres of water. With Clove Oil, make sure the bottle has been warmed up to emulsify it first. Give it a right good shake up before adding it to your water. The Koi should be sedated with 5 minuets or so. With Masuizai, I use it at the stated dose on the bottle. 18 litres of water to 20ml of sedate. The Koi will be sedated in around 1 minute, maybe a touch longer if it's a bigger fish. Hope this helps.

I see you installed a bottom drain on your quarantine tank, this is hard plastic so did you use any rubber seals or did you just use the flange and sealant? I'm wanting to set up something like this too. Any advice would be great.

Hi Soulman909. The BD did not come with any rubber flange so all I did was to use an aqua safe, low module sealant. One thing I would suggest is to get the filter matured way before you actually require it, fishless cycle ? This way you are good to go if you ever need it in a hurry. Myself, I was struggling with the Ammonia and was having to change 10% of the water twice daily, sometimes upto 20% to keep it in check. I would work out how much of the chemical I had was out and replace it. This does work but if like myself you are on a water meter, your bill might kill a few spiders under the matt once it arrives and also it's not great for the stress levels on your Koi.

Good god man do your fish live in a chemical soup. If it's just a little sore just give it a good salt bath, you'll reduce the stress as well help the bruise.
You will end up doing this sort of thing every bloody week if you going in and out the pond chasing fish. Causing stress will lower the Koi's immunity.
