I know it's strange but as a guitarist losing Eddie Van Halen has hit me rather hard. I've never met the man but yet I miss him. The world definitely feels different without his energy.
Man. You have the most iconic piece of history in your lap right there. The Clapton guitar was cool, but THE Edward Van Halen 5150 piece? That thing changed rock music forever! The feather in your cap would be to play his original Frankenstrat! THIS, though is truly awesome! Thank you for this video!

Can't believe Eddie is no more with us now. You have inspired us so much sir. People like you deservingly go to heaven to give rock pleasure to God. Rest in peace sir.
Love Van Halen not only for their music per se, but also for what they brought to the table. EVH's Piano-like approach to the guitar has flourished in so many ways!, beautiful Yvette Young's music from Covet comes to mind.
Proof that you do not need a $5000 guitar to make history, change the world and influence almost EVERYONE after you who picks up a guitar to play rock music. A $200 guitar with a proper setup and modded to your taste can do all that, the rest is practice, dedication and talent.
You buy that 5000$ guitar when you run out of ideas. Eddie couldnt even bought what he was looking for, he litteraly needed to build his own guitar. I`m on EVH binge and on the brink to stop playing. This man was litteraly God of Music.
Any kind of EVH guitar or replica has some sort of magic inside it. I played on an EVH franken replica at my local music store and it felt... otherworldly playing on it.
Fun fact! The octave drop in Eruption was created with an Echoplex delay, and rather than turning a knob, he actually had to hold his hand against the running tape to physically slow it down. And that Echoplex was mounted in an old bomb shell, too! Super jealous about getting to play an actual Eddie guitar, you TOTALLY did it justice!
@@bobjones2041 Apparently Ted Templeton heard it and was like, "Were recording that thing, that's amazing." And Ed was like, "you mean my warmup exercise?"

@@kitten-whisperer but technique and gear are only part of it, the feel and touch one has with their guitar does in fact have a part as well in the sound....you could play note for note like Eddie but if you dont have the touch you will never have that true "sound" of Eddie, because Eddie did things off of pure feel, not because of machines....
Willie Nelson's "Trigger" has to rank right up there as one of the most famous guitars in the world. I was fortunate enough to touch it during a set change when he played a festival in my area. It carried a palpable pulse.
Man, I'm not jealous, I'm not envious, I'm just happy to see one of his stage used guitars displayed one more time by capable hands. I'm also happy it got to be you. Great video and keep it up.
You are blessed Tyler. I am super happy for you. I am glad the Gotta Have Rock and Roll hooked you up. Something that strikes me is these guitars were gifted by a special man and I see them auctioned for insane amounts of money. These people who where blessed by the generosity of such a giving man who be more blessed paying it forward and auctioning for charity. Like Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. That would be so heartwarming. That said, I have always thought the Kramer 5150s during the 86 tour were the single most beautiful guitars ever. Again, I am so happy for you.
I think that Eddie would be thrilled to see you so excited about his guitar. He was such a great guy, and it’s hard to believe that he’s gone. I’m so glad that we are still able to enjoy his music. Keep on rockin’ for Eddie. ♥️
I've watched your channel for a long while now and I gotta say your truly an inspiration of determination to make what you love what you do! keep it up Tyler you deserve to play these legends!
Tyler, I think that you're gratitude and humility is just awesome! I can't think of a more deserving guitarist than you to get a chance to play the EVH ax. You did it justice and Eddie is up there smiling down on you and you're appreciation for his playing. He must be telling Hendrix and the rest of our gone but never forgotten to check this guy out, he's studied us enough to tell the world how we did our thing. There's a short story by Stephen King called "You know they've got a hell of a band" that imagines Janis and Jimi, Morrison etc..in the afterlife where the show never stops. Eddie just joined being that the story is at least 15 or 20 years old but it kept occuring in to me that he'd be proud to have you playing his guitar as it was his nature to appreciate true fans like you. Another thing, you really jam! I've seen enough of your videos to know that already but I feel it needs to be mentioned. I have a white pick from the 5150 tour (monsters of rock in Miami 88) with gold leaf signature but I've played with it so you have to read it at an angle so the indentations are visible. Still one of my prized possessions, I wanted some of the mojo to wear off. I don't know about that but some of the gold leaf wore off, that much I know! The picking edge is rounded now. I keep it with a few others but needless to say it's gotta be the coolest one. I really felt for you on this one thinking, be careful man. Anytime the tremelo arm made audible contact with the body I was thinking, you break it you buy it ! You're fine so don't worry. Someone would loan you the billion dollars right? Get it from Beato 😂 Peace bro, keep em comin'🎸🎶☮️🙏

Seeing that guitar is almost a nostalgia from a time where I thought my dad was a cool guy. Can't get that back! Awesome video.. I'm so glad that someone can play all of these guitars. And thank you for not going easy and just fucking SHREDDING!!!!
I don't know if you were using a signature amp or what, but the tone that was coming out of that guitar was giving me chills beyond belief. It was utter perfection. My gosh does it look like you're having fun too man. I absolutely love it.
That’s a very nice example of Eddie’s many Kramer back up guitars! I’m surprised you got a hold of something like this! I’m happy to see you holding an EVH guitar
That wasn't a back up? It was used heavily on the 5150 tour. As in likely the first choice. 🤷 If you mean back up to the very first Frankenstrat, then yea. That's a given though. I mean, it's a Kramer so it's obvious it's not the original.
@@JC-11111 Eddie mainly played the 5150 guitar every show. I thought he had a different main backup guitar like the 918V etc. I didn’t know it was mainly used. I thought it was just one of his backup guitars that Eddie played on certain songs
This was definitely a backup guitar to The 5150. Maybe even further back as I want to remember The 1984 guitar and Steinberger were backups. I’ve been digging around since watching this video and I have found only two pics with this guitar. One is pictured here in Tyler’s video where Eddie is wearing black n white. The other is a cover of “Young Guitar” July 1986 where it looks like this guitar. EVERYTHING ELSE just about, is The 5150. The Frankenstrat is a whole other period. Pretty much all the DLR era even in the Jump video with a different neck (Kramer classic “beak”).
@@GrumpyMJK Here’s the 1986 tour guitar lineup... Kramer 5150 - main guitar Steinberger GL2T- summer nights, get up and MAIN BACKUP Kramer 1984- “Good Enough alternate tuning” Kramer beretta “pointy headstocks” - “piano guitars” Ed had lots of guitars on the 86’ “5150” tour, and FOUR of them had “space tape” stickers. The 5150, 1984, 918V, and 1986. The 5150 and 1984 were his main pacer style guitars with banana headstocks, and the 918V and 1986 were 2 of SEVERAL Beretta guitars that had pointy headstocks.. Between 86 and 88 (according to live video and Zeke Clark) Ed broke a string TWICE.. and both times he immediately changed to the steinberger.. which should be also dubbed THE BACKUP GUITAR. The pointy headstocks and the 1984 were not used as backups. Ed wanted to play the song 5150 on the Kramer 5150 for obvious reasons, and due to the live singing requirements of that song at the time, (Sammy got better at singing it on future tours and just sang it in standard tuning) they played the song 1 full step down.. After the song Get Up, the (beat up) steinberger and 5150 went backstage to be re-tuned. So for the finale of Als drum solo and the song Dreams, Ed needed SOME guitar to play. That’s where the Baretta “pointy headstock” guitars come in... Anytime you see Ed playing a pointy headstock Kramer, he is playing the end of Alex’s solo OR the solo from Dreams (from the MANY pics I’ve seen of Ed playing these guitars, I’ve only seen ONE that has evidence of him playing “5150” due to finger positioning) (maybe he tried playing 5150 on one once..) but these pointy headstock guitars should be dubbed the PIANO guitars. Ed even through one on for the “Why Can’t This Be Love” music video just for fun.. The particular guitar up for auction is the “ Kramer 1986”. Sometime after the tour Ed gave this guitar to MICHAELS bass tech Kevin Dugan.. and sometime after, the guitar was stolen and the person who stole it, ripped off the stickers, and started sanding the paint off.. the guitar was found at some point and half the guitar was repainted. It was then resigned by Ed and he double dated it. 86’ & 95’. Kevin sold it many years ago with Edwards permission. The current owner is a different owner. ( For the record, the middle picture is not Ed holding the guitar.. just a random person/fan) So what we have here is one of several berettas that was used for “Dreams” a handful of times.. not “the most famous guitar in the world that all the Van Halen songs were played on” (This little thing I copied and pasted was from a Van Halen historian who has dived very very deep into the Van Halen history. His name is Chris Hubbard and he’ll tell you anything about Van Halen and he has done hours and weeks of research and builds exact EVH guitar replicas)
I’ve always though that the most iconic guitar ever is Willie Nelson’s Trigger, that guitar has been used since 1969 and is really the only guitar Willie plays and to add to that all the famous signatures it has collected over the years. That thing is like Thor’s hammer lol can’t have one without the other.
I'm certainly no expert as a lowly sax player, but this guy's tone and they way he hits all those harmonics is uncanny. Even the nuanced style of his tapping sounds as much like Eddie as I've ever heard.
you could have blindfolded me and said Eddie was playing.... and i'd believe it. Awesome to see where you've gotten with all your hard work Tyler. Much love. Keep it up!
You should be proud of the work you have done creating this channel and your learning system. There are a lot of very good players some that have more subs than you yet they wanted you to play these guitars. You should be proud of the job you are doing and keeping the guitar alive.
I was like "Oh Tyler got a 2021 Wolfgang or something?" NOPE, WAY CRAZIER. Holy crap man, this is beautiful, I know we all still miss the legend and always will but this was a bittersweet reminder of his mark he left on the world. Beautiful.
5:45 Eddie didnt like pulling up on the whammy bar, instead he'd just bend the strings to get those higher pitches. The Frankenstrat has a 71' quarter drilled in the body as a bridge stop
Pete Townshend of The Who was doing his famous windmill onstage once and actually impaled his hand on his whammy bar-clean through the palm of his hand...and was so out of it he hardly felt it and pulled it out and carried on playing!
Kevin Duggan is actually Michael Anthony's bass tech. This particular guitar was made by Kramer guitars in their Neptune New Jersey factory. The person that actually built that guitar was their artist relations luthier Billy Connolly.

Exactly! This is what makes Tyler's channel stand out from the rest. He walks the walk.
I was waiting for him to play the intro to women in love, hot for teacher and Mean street. 😪
Drop dead legs is one of my favorites I would have liked to hear but I’m not gonna complain
@@kingzriot976 I was waiting to hear the intro to Mean Street, favorite song off my favorite album. I would have taken D.O.A or House of Pain as a second choice, but...I'm the One works too, so props to Tyler for that.
How awesome is that! I was expecting a gold light to shine out when he opened the case like that scene from Pulp Fiction when Vincent opened Marsellus' briefcase.
Best EVH tone I’ve ever heard. Honestly didn’t think it would sound exactly like him.
I’m sure using his actual guitar helps but he also knows a lot about Eddies techniques
thou play thy van halen shall become thy van halen, the power of eddie van halen is unable to be recreated, hence making him the last of his kind. legendary powers that he humbly lends to us if we choose to use it.
"Mom can we get some Unchained?"

If I had the opportunity to play Eddie's original guitar, first I would cry for a few minutes for having that honor... second, I would hug the guitar for a few minutes and be thankful for having the privilege of touching his guitar, and only then I would play something... dude, you have the best life! Thanks for sharing!
RIP EDDIE
He is still the screensaver on my phone ever since I heard the sad news
I see you're a man of culture as well
My screensaver is cliff burton since I got the phone.
@@cheersbro7347 my man
I still have him as my Lock Screen and the frankenstrat stripes as my home screen
Same 😂 my lock screen, A painting of eddie
I know it's strange but as a guitarist losing Eddie Van Halen has hit me rather hard. I've never met the man but yet I miss him. The world definitely feels different without his energy.
Same!
I feel the same buddy!
Agreed...
I feel the same way about SRV and Neil Peart. 😢
@@michaelvanbuskirk8845 most definitely. Very talented and very missed musical legends
Crazy how the tone is 1:1. Literally perfect.
What an honor that is! That is a marvel of an instrument. Such an immense opportunity that must have been to have been able to hold it and play it.
Dude I cannot tell you how many times I've watched this frickin video - it gives me chills hearin you absolutely shred on it
Is it just me, or can you feel a piece of Eddie's soul coming out of that guitar?
Word brother...I agree
Just you
for sure
It’s magical how you can feel that even from here 😭
I always remember that interview EVH did with that MTV guy where he is walking thru the studio and Ed says ... it's music THEORY man not music law so why not experiment... Many of EVH experiments turned out really well!
Man You did EVH proud!
Thank you for sharing your talent with us and also thank you too Got to have Rock and Roll company for letting you have a chance to play one of our Hero's guitar. Much Love and Respect!
Can't believe Eddie is no more with us now. You have inspired us so much sir. People like you deservingly go to heaven to give rock pleasure to God. Rest in peace sir.
We want Almighty Lil Wayne's Guitar next time🙌🙌🎸
😐
😐
😑
But will he be able to channel Lil Wayne's incomparable licks and skills? ???
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love Van Halen not only for their music per se, but also for what they brought to the table. EVH's Piano-like approach to the guitar has flourished in so many ways!, beautiful Yvette Young's music from Covet comes to mind.
Proof that you do not need a $5000 guitar to make history, change the world and influence almost EVERYONE after you who picks up a guitar to play rock music. A $200 guitar with a proper setup and modded to your taste can do all that, the rest is practice, dedication and talent.
U are correct sir
You buy that 5000$ guitar when you run out of ideas. Eddie couldnt even bought what he was looking for, he litteraly needed to build his own guitar. I`m on EVH binge and on the brink to stop playing. This man was litteraly God of Music.
I owned a nice Kramer but hell ,no one is as good as Eddie was. He was the best. 🙏 🤘
@@HadesMiscreant no doubt he invented shit and perfect shit that was already a thing he wasn’t a guitar legend he was a guitar god of his time!
I didn’t know a single guitar could make me cheese so much from just the sound, never less the immaculate playing
Any kind of EVH guitar or replica has some sort of magic inside it. I played on an EVH franken replica at my local music store and it felt... otherworldly playing on it.
Valerie Bertinelli said she was finding it difficult to live in a world without Eddie Van Halen. I was thinking, “I hear you Val, I hear you.”

This is by far my favorite Music is Win video yet.
That's odd cuz legend has it Eruption was Ed warming up in the studio, and Ed never intended it to be put on the album
@@bobjones2041 Apparently Ted Templeton heard it and was like, "Were recording that thing, that's amazing." And Ed was like, "you mean my warmup exercise?"
@@obsessedwithguitars3157 do, but, Ed slowed down tapes and stuff during his warmup?
@@bobjones2041 Fromt what I understand he worked on and refined it into an actual piece constantly saying, "what would be cool to do?" There's an old interview with John Sykes where he talks about the Echoplex trick, saying, "Eddie wasn't the first to do it, but by the time he did it, people forgot about it and he made it fresh and cool again."
@@obsessedwithguitars3157 I find Eruption and his live solos to be Ed's least interesting work

Heck, I've barely ever touched steel string guitars to say nothing of electrics but I'd still jump at the chance to strum a few chords on that relic.
I really didn’t think I would cry, man I miss Eddie
@JJM That means literally nothing. You can miss someone who you never knew personally.
Beautiful to hear the SOUND coming from the tool he hammered on. I also was touched friend, wiped a few tears off my eyes. :(
@JJM dude, language is just a tool to convey our thoughts and emotions. Are you actually having trouble understanding what his comment meant, or are you just bored and being an ass? You are dissecting his comment to an embarrassing degree.

I have only been playing for about 16 months. I don’t even play electric I just enjoy the way you do things. And I found much joy in watching you be able to play this iconic piece of American rock history. I actually watched a video of him on some talk show going in depth the history of this guitar. I found the story to be very cool and inspiring. I find it so inspiring to see the torch still burn so to speak.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
Dude your so chill. I’d be pretty emotional just being in the same room as that thing
It is just amazing to see the love that you have for these idols and the whole genre , good job Tyler , You’ve earned it
Looks like Eddie's signature sound wasn't just guitar only, but his amps played a huge part.
And van halen's hands as well
I think his sound was in his fingers.
There's a Rick Beato video about the amp sound
@@briangray6476 nope. Can we all just stop with the "the tone us in the hands" bullshit? I 100% guarantee you that if Tyler plugged into Deadie van Helen's exact rig, he would sound so insanely similar to deadward himself but of course it wouldn't be exact but very very close. The tone comes from the guitar, pickups, amp, and speakers.
That is pretty freaking cool. For me it would be SRVs number one.
Didn’t wolfgang say many times this isn’t a special guitar, it was a personal gift from eddie to the person who’s selling it?
These guys trying to make a buck!!!
WOW, a trip through memory lane with lessons on top! This 57 year-old extremely novice drummer and VH fan thanks you...humbly...
Good job holding it together. Not sure I could have done the same. Eddie wrote the soundtrack of my entire youth. RIP. EVH forever.
Wow what a moment. Thank you.

Get it from Beato 😂
Peace bro, keep em comin'🎸🎶☮️🙏

I don't know if you were using a signature amp or what, but the tone that was coming out of that guitar was giving me chills beyond belief. It was utter perfection. My gosh does it look like you're having fun too man. I absolutely love it.
My man had the chance to play 0 3 5 on Eddie's guitar and he didn't take it
Rest in peace Eddie, you're missed wholly in the music community and the world.
What an experience...very special!
That "I'm the One" riff - love it!!!
@@JC-11111 it’s a back up. The wear and scratches/relicing is no wear near as heavy as it is on this guitar compared to the main Kramer 5150.
Kramer 5150 - main guitar
Steinberger GL2T- summer nights, get up and MAIN BACKUP
Kramer 1984- “Good Enough alternate tuning”
Kramer beretta “pointy headstocks” - “piano guitars”
Ed had lots of guitars on the 86’ “5150” tour, and FOUR of them had “space tape” stickers.
( For the record, the middle picture is not Ed holding the guitar.. just a random person/fan)
So what we have here is one of several berettas that was used for “Dreams” a handful of times.. not “the most famous guitar in the world that all the Van Halen songs were played on”
(This little thing I copied and pasted was from a Van Halen historian who has dived very very deep into the Van Halen history. His name is Chris Hubbard and he’ll tell you anything about Van Halen and he has done hours and weeks of research and builds exact EVH guitar replicas)
I got goosebumps when seeing it

Honestly one of my favorite videos you've ever made.
I always thought the pinch harmonic bend tap in the solo of dreams was one of the coolest most unique sounds ever. Eddie was such an innovator.

I swear Atomic Punk is such a slept on song
What a lucky bastard i had chills for him when he opened that case 😎
I'm certainly no expert as a lowly sax player, but this guy's tone and they way he hits all those harmonics is uncanny. Even the nuanced style of his tapping sounds as much like Eddie as I've ever heard.
you can tell he studied music for a long time. It's not just guitar skills. He knows exactly what he's doing.
This guitar should go in a museum, not an auction block.
"IT BELONG IN A MUSEUM"
you could have blindfolded me and said Eddie was playing.... and i'd believe it.

I was like "Oh Tyler got a 2021 Wolfgang or something?"
NOPE, WAY CRAZIER.
Eddie would’ve loved this! R.I.P Eddie
