Great edit, really hope we get to hear Johann's vision for Blade Runner someday. I can't believe the excuse for firing him was "too experimental." Absurd statement considering the material and setting of Blade Runner. There's something so much more evocative about this than what was presented in the actual film.
Thank you. His case sums up the problem of the modern art in the mainstream media, once the business gets involved in the artistic process it ruins everything. They pretended aiming to replecate the musical atmosphere of Vangelis, well it felt nothing like him, despite reusing some themes like Tears in the rain.
Really wish they would've stuck with his score. Zimmer is definitely a talented composer, but I often find his music to be overbearing. When watching 2049 in theaters there were moments when I wanted to cover my ears because it was just too much. Jóhannsson's scores also just feel so soulful. It really makes me wish he was still around because I would've loved for him and Denis to team up for Dune.
You said it - "too much". It was too bombastic and generic. With the exception of the partitions from "Mesa" track, probably the only original composition that came close to the style of Vangelis. Jóhann's style was different, he wasn't using the CS80 but his approaches was more melodic and nuanced, what could have fitted the BR universe.

I hope we can hear his score someday, gone to soon 😔

Is this Johanna’s music or one of many BR covers?
It is his music. The track is called City Building.
WHO WILL BE ALIVE IN 2049?
