anyway hard years are coming for saito. they should have protect him and let wolf fight against riner in the olympic mixed team final. saito lost against sherazadishvilli earlier this day - this was the sign that it's not his day and later he lost against riner twice - the worst case szenario. i wish saito all the best and a quick recovery.
Feel like Saito could do better if he lost some weight, he's very technical but he's so big I think he struggles to perform against the more athletic Europeans. Feel like if he lost 10kgs and could pick the pace up he's do much better.
Saito messed up big time for sure. I once heard you’re basically out if your win rate goes under 80%, but don’t know how true that is. It all depends on how they’ll perform in the coming matches, but Nakano performing how he does and winning the All Japans is a big plus for him
Saito has the physicality but seems to make mistakes and gets in vulnerable positions especially in ne waza, also Saito seems to be bit too heavy, having said all that although right now Nakano is better Saito has a higher ceiling and potential only question is will he be able to reach it
As for Nakano, his performance at Zagreb was phenomenal but don’t think the competition was that deep. As technical as he is, he seems to have the typical Japanese HW build for judo, which is short and stocky - like Ota, Kageura, Ishii. Maybe it’s ok for the rest but too small for Riner? Riner shouldn’t be around much longer tho… About the same size as Kim Min Jong though who has been doing well. Also see Kim bear Nakano at the Paris GS 2024.
His last few performances at the Olympics and Worlds def should put his #1 standing in Japan into question. Losing 5 times? He is too inconsistent. He also seems to have trouble with Yusipov losing to him in the Olympics and Tashkent. He seems to do well vs Rakhimov and despite that kouchi-gari loss to Guram, seems to get the better of him most of the time. His match with Riner at the 2023 worlds was the closest one if I recall but then lost again to Kageura. Looking at his Olympic matches, he had a pretty tough line up beating Krpalek and getting it back on Granda but losing to both Riner and Yusupov.
I think Nakano is not big enough, while Saito is not athletic enough in my view. Saito has the size and weight but if you look at the modern +100 kg guys they aren’t necessarily that heavy anymore but rather just tall and very muscular. Of course there is still a way higher fat percentage just because some weight makes sense, but the almost Sumo like appearance of Saito is not the perfect body type for a +100 kg athlete at the highest level anymore.
Saito and Nakano have extensively competed against each other since they were young: if there was anyone who could be Saito's rival, it'd be Nakano. Nakano has only beaten him once from what I can look up. This year's Tokyo Grand Slam and next year's World Championship are going to be tipping point, because Saito arguably performed the worst out of all the men at the Olympics.
Saito is done,he is not stroger enough for that weight division.Personally I dont like him.He is not like his father. On the other hand Nakano is too short for fight against guys like Riner with an strong grip over the top.
Nakano seems a bit similar to Puumalainen in terms that he's a bit smaller but faster and perhaps more technical, has some throws in the pocket that are not as common in heavies. And considering how Puumalainen had to go up to bring his performance up, Nakano might be in a similar spot where going lower would hurt him more than benefit and his body just happened to end up in that spot where you're just above the reasonable for going into lower weight categories. Who knows, just throwing random guesses out.

この映像だけを見ると中野は斉藤より強く見えますよね。実績は斉藤が間違いなく上ですが。

Review the junior world championships tomorrow
yeah I'll be covering it.
Nakano's Judo looks good, but he doesn't have consistent high level competition results just yet, we have to see that first.

Fantastic technique!

they look like twins
cant tell them apart
he's obviously better than Saito technically, but he stands no chance against Riner, as Saito does.
i needed some judohighlights

Yes but can he beat Saito? Did they fight yet?

Bring back leg grabs
We want leg grabs

Риннер слишком большой 😂

Are there any news about leg grabs?
Saito was dreadful at the Olympics
Yes
