*ITS AN OLYMPIA SG-3* whilst the oiling your grandfather gave it will get it working - it will ultimately stop it working
He oiled the "segment" where the key bars attach and this should NEVER be oiled. You should clean this off very thoroughly with alcohol and a paint brush as soon as possible - the oil will dry and gum up the keys. This is an exceptionally good Typewriter BTW.
Them: Squashyboy can't spend days on a CGI sequence that occupies seconds of a video

You are the only creator that I never skip the sponsor part. Way to go.
same your sponsor's part are so creative
actually ur sponsors are litterally the best
u should also check out internet historian's sponsor segments lol
ok so.. I actually still use a typewriter regularly (learned how to type on one!) and I want to share some fun bits here.
- I once lent my typewriter to a curious classmate of mine who was a fast typist on a keyboard and her fingers were too weak to push the buttons. By definition on a typewriter you have to bottom out the strokes anyway.
- Because I have to bottom out, I type really loudly even on linear switches. My favorite keycap for _purely typing_ reasons is therefore the SA profile because they're very thocky.
- My experience with my typewriter (I know there are better typewriters out there, but my typewriter is _mine_ and that's special) is a mental handicap preventing me from surpassing 120wpm on a regular keyboard. There is no such thing as rollover on a typewriter - you will jam the keybars together. Maybe it's because of this design that the QWERTY layout was even made in the first place - no going too fast or else you'll jam the keyboard anyway, so the layout is intentionally not as ergonomic.
- My typewriter was my cramming machine back in college. If I had to cram a paper the literal hour before it's due, I break out the typewriter. A professor even took a photo of me, rendered it in black and white, and published it on their instagram.
- Double-spacing between sentences is very important on the typewriter to improve legibility of the text.
EDITS: to add
- mine is a portable laptop-sized typewriter that belonged to my parent, so I would even joke with my friends that "oh my laptop has the best anti-theft. who would steal a rusty old keyboard? absolutely nobody that's who"

Abbreviation for "When You See It". Used in the osu! community whenever the number 727 appears, started from a 727 pp play by Cookiezi.
The term "When you see it" was originated by aireu when he played guess who is back and got a 727pp play.
Aireu: Goddamnit... so close... SEVEN TWENTY SEVEN! SEVEN TWENTY SEVEN! WHEN YOU SEE IT! WHEN YOU F*CKING SEE IT! *points at the screen* SEVEN TWENTY SEVEN! When you f*cking see it.

Impressive how the custom keyboard rabbit hole has died but this guy still manages to make content off of it
Well tbf, the "rabbit hole" is more of a highway tunnel now. You could consider it a niche hobby 7 years ago, but now that there's everything for everyone, it doesn't feel as different anymore.
how has the custom keyboard died yet? so many people still make videos off of it. i’m sure it’s still alive.
I don't think it died, because I just got into the custom keyboard rabbit hole last month... And dropped like 500$ for custom kebs
@@slammed_mocsmany people still make videos of among us, which is also dead, content made about something doesn't make it alive
@@TopTechSavvy what does among us have to do with this
Pretty awesome! The carriage on your model is HUGE, you can even write on A4 sheets horizontally. Something you can't do with most Typewriters as their carriage is only wide enough to allow A4 Paper sheets to go in vertically. RESPECT and LOVE to your Grandpa for fixing this machine for you :D 💞
I spent years working on a typewriter and wrote two full length novels 30 years ago ... *those that weren't published because after 15 years, just found the manuscripts that were buried away...* ANYway, nice job, largest typewriter I've ever seen, and clearly not portable. Take 'that' down to the coffee shop. WPM actually means words per minute that you can type without spelling errors or grammatical oopsies. I'd love to work on a typewriter again but no publisher accepts manuscripts via a typewriter much less in a big manuscript box. In the class we took as teens, our goal was to get to 60 WPM without errors. That was hard! But to pass the class that was the final exam. I might add that was long before a word processor or computer *class that is* in the 1970s.
thats really interesting, i never knew the typewriter had so much history until i did this video, and im still learning new things!
The whole razer meeting had me in stitches 😂
its only a matter of time before he starts on custom typewriters
I bet you could hook up a custom keyboard to a printer, then you would have the modern equivalent of a typewriter.
it could also be a word document
I actually have a typewriter I use on a regular basis. I use it to write lists, recipes, letters, poetry, and cathartic ramblings just to get it out of my system. It was a little intimidating at first, but I got used to it once I found my rhythm and cadence. Compared to using a keyboard, the typewriter actually gives me a sense of accomplishment because I'm pounding away on something physical. And since every word I put down on the page is permanent, it forces me to slow down and think about what I have to say. If I mess up, I just simply blot it out with X's (or use white out). It teaches me how to self edit, and be more diligent with my writing.
I'm glad you at least took the time to try it out. I recommend you try different brands since every typewriter has a distinct personality and flow. I think an IBM Selectric would be more of your speed.
I'll vote for the Selectric
This guy's content is unlimited
Just like your username
@@purpshell how nice to hear that
"why am I doing this? I don't know, I thought it was pretty funny."....honestly, that's a perfect reason! Well done, sir...well done.
Typewriters don't suck.
5:31 "How about you text some bitches" 🤣
Wonderful video!! Love seeing more people getting into typewriters. This is the Olympia SG3, a later model and one of the greatest desktop typewriters out there! I can get my typewriters up past 130 wpm, but average around 70-80. The dot matrix key is actually a security screen key, often used for check making. It prevents someone from whiting out or copying the text. Anyway, thank you for putting this together! Very entertaining, and you have my vote for legitimizing SnakePower. If you want to type some more, send me a letter!
7:40 RETURN OF THE GOATS 🐐
only real squashy boy 2 followers will know
You can just use whiteout pen when you make a mistake, you don't even have to remove the paper if you're careful. Saw my dad who didn't have a phone or computer do that plenty times lol
Impressive machine. Olympia typewriters are awesome. I've got an executive portable one and it's an absolute workhorse.
My Olympia SG1 arrived yesterday - its astonishing - unrestored 66 years old and it worked PERFECTLY.
I spent 8 hours cleaning and correctly lubricating and its no better than when it arrived - it just looks better. A 66 year old machine that needed ZERO work to perform flawlessly.
Thanks dude! This is a great video to make people to laugh. No offense about it but the part where it was beeping when there was bad words was absolutely hilarious! Keep up the good work!
Interresting switch up from your ussual content, i enjoyed it, keep it up and wish yall the best
The typewriter is an Olympia SG3 for those who want to know.
Been waiting for this video great work squashy boy
Apparently there's this new thing that allows you to watch long form videos like it's shorts and I'm watching this on that
wait ive never heard of this, but hi thanks for stopping by
This is the content TH-cam needs
Thank you Squashy Grandpa!
i have ghost written several hundreds of books on my great grandfathers 1894 Maskelyne typewriter, and of those hundreds of books, all but 11 have been published and sold well, i use it out of tradition, my family are all writers, my twin sister writes stageplays for theatres, my mother wrote radio scripts and my father was a stenographer, and we have always used a typewriter, and i must admit, theres something unique about the whole experience of using a typewriter
side note: i own a copy of every book i ghost wrote, i may have no legal right to call the work my own, but i take great pride in the fact i wrote them and like to keep them to remind me that im good at what i do
Dude needs more subscribers ngl
I like the different style of video and i really like it also i am very happy that you have finally uploaded!
8:30 razer fan slowly fades in made me laugh
I missed your uploadddddd genuinely some of the best content out here.
"we'ah we'll have to get back to you" hahahahah
I liked this video and subscribed because your Grandma was the sweetest woman. I'm so glad she had a cameo.

Hes back uploading!!
Amazing vid mate
i HAVE SEEN YOUR SPEED its gonna get JAMMED IN LIKE 4 days
Thank you Squashy, very cool
Such a good idea!
Yoo those switches on your new "keyboard" sound great
In times of NO electricity, this little thing there will be the best way to formally WRITE a letter to a goverment agency or maybe a novel!
9:25 you can hear the Razer guy couldn't help not to laugh hahahaha
Razer car actually sounds like a good idea
I expect that sleep tokens like that starts playing every time you do the day x screens
I have figured out your secret Squashy; you are either interning at Razer or you work there.
youre close, but unfortunately wrong for both theories
I've figured it out. You're Razer
6:32 Hamaji!! How dare you make such a joke!! Haven't you learned from the last ti... *oh wait, wrong keeb channel*
The return of squashy boy
You choose a good typewriter. Olympia really made good typewriters
I learned to type on one of those!
You picked a good one! SM-9 with a wide carriage. This is about as advanced as manual machines got before they stopped making them.
No, not an SM9. It is a SG3 model.
Guys wake the Fock up squashy boy uploaded a video
Hah ! You just earned another subscriber.
Shout outs to grandpa's indeed, they have a special wisdom and knowledge of life.
Actual banger
Some typewriters do allow for corrections if you make a mistake.
You should try an IBM Selectric
I think typewriters are great for creativity and perfectionism since it’s harder to erase, so you gotta just keep going with your story, script, whatever. Also, that typewriter is huge, if you like this idea, I suggest looking into a more portable style :)
50 years ago my father was called stupid by his teacher for suggesting we should one day be able to backspace the words and them be erased.
He got the last laugh though because his teacher is now dead.
07:37 (close) but how did you manange to create that presentation without using a keyboard 🤔

oh thanks for the heads up, ill try to fix it myself
@@SquashyBoy - Its one of the best typewriters ever made - You should definitely keep it. As a creative, you will almost certainly find you do your best work on it, it makes you think a lot harder and deeper cos you cant just erase it.
a banger vid
want to see more videos often.
9:33 lmao made me lol
bro seriously dropped his postal code hoping for some spare keeb switches in the mail
For the keyboarw typewriter you schould have searched for a teletypewriter or an electrical one but you would have to translate the sgnals into modern keyboard layouts wich is another problem.
For the typing error TIP-EX sold strips in the past for that exact problem, hence it's name tip-ex. Backspace, hold the TIP-EX strip infront of your error onbthe paper, retype the same wrong character, backspace and type your correction.
i love u Squashy Boy
You can erase mistakes on a typewriter. It’s amazing how quickly people forget how to use what was everyday technology just a few years ago.
Bro tryna sneak in 727 in typewriting.
Anyways you should do some "I build the wysi keyboard and let osu! Player use it"
Could be cool ngl.
I am so glad that there is actually keyboard enthusiast in Singapore. ( I live in Singapore.)
I believe there’s a number of enthusiast keyboard manufacturers based out of Singapore (at least HEX, makers of the HEX 4B among others, and Monokei)! There’s probably others as well, but I assume there’s gotta be a decently sized community there.
2:47 that's the purpose of brush liquid paper my friend.
When did you get braces Squashy? I'm asking because I recently got braces myself. And I'm wondering because I'm wondering if you've got any issues and if I could get some tips on how too put of the rubber bands on quicker.
i love your videos bro
1:09 The keyboard is too powerful even the computer couldnt handle it 💀
Respect to Squashy Grandpa. Video would’ve nit be possible without him
Extra long carriage is great for spreadsheets and accounting applications.
You've probably moved on, and or know this, but the key you have been using that makes the shading box on or around your letters or words..
That's a feature we used back in the day for when a check was written, after the numerals were typed in, we'd go back over it and shade box it to prevent someone from changing and then or just making a copy of the check, this shading box would print back like a black box.
It was a kind of check security, very cool feature, still works today and you absolutely can either sign or fill out a check by handwritten, or by type. And having that shading feature helped Keep your sanity.
Yw.
ah so its a security feature. thats so cool
Ok but now for the important questions: What keyboard was that at the start? It looks pretty and its ISO so I need it!
Shout out to all the creators that make the sponsor ad a chapter so we don't have to press L 5 times
Finaly a wideo🎉
0:42 feel u
You should've have pitched a Razer Typewriter (With Chroma Key of course)
4:38 The name of the shop reminds me of your mom...
It could be pretty funny leh if u smash the pink keyboard at the start with the type writer
WOO MUSTARD LETS GO
My typewriter has a carrying case. Typewriters are amazing and I love my collection like the children I’ll never have.
i could see the razer fan becoming a real thing
gong would be proud
next vid modding a type writer?
Don't you jade about my beloved BOX Hates! 😂
grandpa so wholesome love him
GrammarlyGO Les thinking, let the computer do our thinking.
I would eat squashy. 🤔
half of the budget went for that CGI throw
0:48 "it glides"
Grandpa the OG
Do you have an affiliate link for the type-writer?
okay how about using steno machine next 😂
W Squashy's Grandpa
W Grampa!
Uhh... want to ask if the Razer interview is actually a real thing or just scripted? I saw Glarses had "this kind" of interview before. So I wonder if they actually/accept do this kind of interview?
It might be an obvious answer to my question, but I'm genuinely confuse if that is an actual interview for yours (and Glarses if you know).
