    I live in PA Amish country, an Amish dairy barn (120x150 foot) burned down yesterday(faulty Diesel engine caught fire which spread to the barn) they got the livestock out in time. But, today they already have lumber on the site, the farmer said it’ll be rebuilt in 5 days bc all the Amish community comes together. There’ll be a good old fashioned barn raising & they’re the best carpenters in my area.

    You talked about a muddy spring. I live in MN approx 50 mi. west of Minneapolis. We still have snow banks up to our eyeballs! We are finally getting some temps to start melting. The radio was speaking about possible flooding as we go on with the melt. When I was a kid my dad did every thing on the farm....fix machines, tractors, milk cows feed pigs, do field work. We had alfalfa, oats, corn. Did alot of the house wok (my mother was in aw heel chair). Would paint, (in his younger years painted professionally...such as free hand lettering on store windows or vehicles) He could fix the furnace, plumbing. Also kept our cars driveable. It was a hug surprise to me that not all men could do these things!! My husband had trouble pounding in a nail to hang up a picture...so I usually did it by myself.

    As an electrician we had a saying when we saw something wired extremely bad and dangerous we said it was “farmered”. Saying it is “easy wiring” is actually relative to what someone’s skill sets are. Even though there are lots of people - such as yourself - that can get the job done, that doesn’t mean it was done well, or even done safely. I have been to several farms that had wiring that made me cringe. I just recently went to look at a small job for my friend where the HVAC technician was trying to repair the furnace and got an electrical shock, even though he had the circuit shut off. After some diagnostics and detective work I found that the previous owner had installed a dryer outlet himself. He crossed up some wires and had the circuit back-feeding on the neutral wire. This was a “simple” job that could ave killed someone very easily. In fact, I’m very surprised that someone hadn’t been shocked or electrocuted using that dryer with a live conductor wired on the neutral.
    If you can do the wiring safely, that’s fine, but don’t take a chance on your family and friends losing their lives because you wanted to save a few dollars. TH-cam electricians can be dangerous.

      No one wins in these types of lawsuits. It's very expensive for both sides, he has to deal with his equipment not working correctly for the next 2 years while waiting on the court system. I have had 1 customer sue my company and me personally on a project. I "won" the lawsuit. Then, I had to counter sue the building for $187k in attorney fees. Gues what, I didn't get awarded all the fees back. Then I had to file a lein on each individual condo unit, 122 of them. If each owner decides they don't want to pay me, I won't get my money till they sell the unit or try to refinance. So, I "won" the right to spend 187k on attorney fees and wait to get paid back for the next 20 years. Luckily, they did have to pay the contract balance and interest immediately. It almost put me out of business. They owed me over 500k on the contract plus the 187k in attorney fees. It also to over 3 years in court.

    Might consider putting landscaping cloth down under the gravel/stone, it will keep the rocks from working down into the mud, and the driveway will last longer.

    I grew up the same way. Not on a farm but small town. It seemed someone knew a trade so when the car needed fixing neighbor Joe did it. My dad was a jack of all trades so I learned watching him. When it came to roofing a house 15 neighbors showed up and the wife's made lunch. Then they drank some beer

    P.S. Love your channel Cole. I never thought I would find farming interesting but you make it so. You are straight forward, honest, hard working and the explanations for everything you do is easy for a city girl to understand. Keep up the good work!

    Sometimes it just comes down to insurance. If anything goes wrong, they won't cover it. You're paying the electrician not only for their knowledge, but for the piece of paper that says the job was done right and can therefore be covered by insurance. Make sure the electrician inspects it and signs off on the job before you finish.

    • @MrFastFarmer
      @MrFastFarmer ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know the law in the USA, but here most electricians wont sign of shit unless they do the work or you pay them basically what they quoted for the work. No sign off, no council approval, no insurance, no anything.
