There were tons of US contract Mosins that never made it out of the country and were sold dirt cheap back in the day. But they seem pretty rare now despite their numbers. I would rather one of those in nice condx. than one that has been all thru the wringer with multiple rebuilds. If I could find one. And not costing as much as a better rifle would.
With the Finnish stampings on that gun. It seems as if it was taken during combat, brought back to Finland for stamping and maybe some repair/re-tooling, and set up with Metric parameters for the iron sights over top of the Russian style measures; and then sent out to battle with a fresh soldier. This was very common practice for the times.
It could have either been during The Winter War, or during The Continuation War, where Finland allied with Nazi Germany in the Operation Barbarossa (German invasion of Russia 1941).
