    • @BigUriel
      @BigUriel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The e92 has a lot more space in the back than the e81, a much better ride and much better interior quality. People who actually buy a new M3 seem to care about those things, they don't just want a big engine in a roll cage with wheels.
      The truth is the people who bitch and moan about the size of the modern M3s are not the people who buy them, so BMW couldn't care less what you think. There in it to sell cars, not to please a niche fanbase who never actually buy one. And what they're doing is clearly working because M3s have been selling like hot buns for the past 20 years.

    • @DigitalDissident
      @DigitalDissident 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@BigUriel I've driven a DCT E90 M3 against my manual 135i, 1er was pulling on the M3. The M3 seems quite large & V8 in E82 is definitely cooler. It makes more sense if BMW did it from an enthusiast/performance perspective.
      E82 is 95% of the car for far less money. I never use my back seats but you can sit in the back of an E82 just fine. My 135i came with a brown leather interior & M trim, inside looks better than any E9 M3 I've seen. But I don't care too much about that, glad it doesn't have idrive or sunroof.

    I absolutely love these kind of builds ! In the next couple of years I’d love to swap an e30 M3 engine in a z3 with proper bmw style 32 wheels, a lsd differential from an e46 M3. Just a simple, high revving fun convertible.

      Ah mate that sounds brilliant! Get it done!

    • @Charlie-Charlot
      @Charlie-Charlot 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CJK20 the S14 engine will probably be the last piece as it is ridiculously expensive, it will first receive ITBs and custom made headers and will gradually gain some newer and better parts, but the main goal is to create a car that bmw could have made themselves, something like a different take on the Z3M with a lighter and high revving naturally aspirated 4 cylinder instead of the larger S54. I think it makes more sense considering the size of the car.

  • @miketurin5233
    @miketurin5233 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Incredible achievement and super cool!
    Those V8 and V10 from that era are the real deal once you addressed the rod bearing issue which is not very common by the way.

    • @CJK20
      @CJK20  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the rod bearings were one the biggest issues mate? Whenever I see one for sale it’s all anyone ever bangs on about.

    • @miketurin5233
      @miketurin5233 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CJK20 yes. The rod bearings are the worst issue but maybe not the most common one. Based on forums and TH-cam owners videos, it really depends on how the previous owner has driven the car, oil used and changes and the KM driven. Did the previous owner wait for the oil to properly warm up before driving hard. Many US guys complain about this but if you look at US market and the high mileage BMW they (have) to buy there is no surprise it happens more often. If you check the European market where you can get low mileage mint BMW the risk is much lower.
      Also I saw videos of people changing the rod bearings at over 200k KM and they were “ok”. So I wouldn’t be too worried buying a 50-80k KM BMW with a V8 or V10 and enjoying it for 5 years without any concerns.

    I think THIS is what the 1M should have been. an high-revving NA engine in a small frame. Of course it could step on the M3's toe, but who cares, it was supposed to be an homage to 2002 anyway!

    So if you have a 1M and your n54 goes out because of example rod bearings. The replacement for a S65 is a easy job right? Engine in and the wiring needs to be fixed?

    Doesn’t the S65 have less Torque than the original N54/55 that came with the car? I wonder how that affects the overall feel and acceleration with the car.

      @@CJK20 As E9X chassis M3 is larger, heavier which needs more torque than horsepower, instead. This V8 swapped 1 series would be having much more fun to drive and more predictable in body roll

      The M3 V8 engine is terrible in my opinion. The only advantage it has is a nicer sound than an N54\N55.

  • @michaelperras4142
    @michaelperras4142 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    so what did the conversion to 1M body work end up costing? I can pretty much cost out the swap, but am unsure about the bodywork. what size tires did it allow you to run? did you have to do the bodywork to use the the e92 subframes?I looking at it from the perspective of possibly making one for a stripped,caged track day special.

    Vid starts with how we wont believe how much work went into the car then builder tells us is a direct bolt in swap. Theres a good laugh. Love the idea. As a non m3 e92 owner that restores and builds cars, bolt in swaps are always more appealing than full fabrication work of making something work.

    Very Cool, love the S65! But the s65 has less power and torque than a fbo n55? Definately a better track car than an n55/n54 though!

      Yeah it does but for uniqueness and standing out this wins :)

    • @TheNinjaSpartin
      @TheNinjaSpartin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @J B Its better in the way the engine has been design to be used on a track as well as street. When you compare stock for stock to the n54/n55. Not sure of your setup but stock n54 round a track will overheat. Now a modifed/tuned n54/n55 will good oil cooling will absolutely beat a NA M3 =).

    Don't get me wrong, I love the car. With the N54 or N55 and mods, wouldn't you get more power for your money and better economy, I love the power of my 135I with basic mods (The diff torsen/lsd was the best) and when I drive it with respect it gives me 7 litres per 100km's.
