    He really could've used a 128i for the conversion to be cheaper & end up with the EXACT same outcome. A 135i can push 500HP+ on the stock engine/turbos/trans but this thing is a different beast & that sound is glorious.
    Basically modern E46 in handling & the e90 in sound/power

      DirtDude117 Correct- I could have saved $5-8k if I had used a higher mileage 128i. I hadnt actually originally planned on doing the v8. I quite enjoyed my FBO 135i for a long time before making the jump. I am building a second one which I will be starting with an automatic 128i.

TH-cam in my opinion should be free for all to watch.

    Nice! The S65 motor has a soul that the turbo sixes just can't match. While the newer turbo cars will have plenty of torque down low, the throttle response and sound of these V-8's climbing past 8,000 will be missed.

      @bingoberra18 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Like matt said, it should be fast but not blow your balls off fast. But rather a complete package. Question is, would it not have been 90% as good for 30% of the price if he kept the stock engine and gave it a tune.

    • @MarcoSvizzero
      @MarcoSvizzero 9 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      bingoberra18 - I had actually enjoyed the car for quite sometime as a Full Bolt on 135I before doing the s65 swap. The move was very much a lateral move in power. My goal was not to gain more power but instead change the type of power. NA Linear Instant and much better cooling on the track. The car is extremely balanced with the s65 - surprisingly much more so than with my tuned n54.

    • @bingoberra18
      @bingoberra18 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marco Svizzero Well as was stated in the video as well I guess its nice to build the kind of car many of the 1-series owners dream about. My miata only has a quarter of the power so I´m not the one to talk ;)

    • @TheBrokenEclipse
      @TheBrokenEclipse 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Dee Jay There was a really great post about the economic problems that /Drive faced, the production cost simply was too high. The private finances of the hosts are not really that relevant: sure their wages might have been a bit high (though I haven't seen any signs of that) and some of them (at least Matt and Harris) have other incomes than from /Drive. Also at least for Chris Harris the Ferrari FF (the 599 wasn't bought) was "bought" through Ferrari's finance scheme and he stated in a video that it was clearly too expensive for him, but he just had to try it out - even if he had to borrow the funds and for a limited time period.

    Matt, why do your Drive videos look like a TV documentary and your one takes look home made? I enjoy them both, but I'm just wondering why the vast difference? keep up the good work...

    This was edited by Chris Harris?? That seems a bit strange.
    If so then I'm glad they 're still getting on behind the scenes.

    BMW M5 V10 engine (with OEM exhaust) in the 1st generation Z4 M Coupe would be perfection, IMHO.

    Hey are you saying this is faster than your 135i full bolt on? and I am also wondering was it an N54 or N55 135i?

    Question, if you are going to swap the motor, isn't better idea to use a 128i instead of a 135i? I mean, 128i is cheaper

    Its great that there's a V8 in there but I hope the previous engine blew or something so they had to swap a new engine in because the straight-6 N54 with a few simple bolt-ons is faster than the S65 V8.

    at 5:59 when he says the engine could be stroked, I believe it is. The owner had this on Jay Lenos garage where he said it was a dinan stroker

    • @raigen123456
      @raigen123456 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this video, the engine was actually the original 4.0L V8. It wasn't until later that the owner swapped in the Dinan stroker v8, hence the missing dinan decal on the front bumper in this video.

    Is this CARB legal by chance? I know theres a loophole where you can swap as long as its a newer engine.
