ANTARCTICA CRUISE WITH ATLAS OCEAN VOYAGES
We sailed on this 9-night Antarctica cruise on the new Atlas ocean voyages ship World Voyager. This atlas ocean voyages Antarctica cruise included embarkation day, 4 sea days, and 4 ports of call. Due to the nature of this expedition cruise, three of the 4 days were considered the captain's choice.
One thing we should have realized about Antarctica cruises is that they are highly regulated. So, the time ashore during our Atlas Ocean voyages Antarctica expedition was much shorter than we expected. The good thing about booking this trip with Atlas Ocean Voyages is that everything is included. This included the charter flight to Ushuaia, all onboard meals and drinks, as well as most shore excursions.
The cruise line also provides a parka, and use of gear like boots and walking sticks during the voyage. Onboard, Atlas Ocean Voyages offers a traditional cruise experience. We really appreciated this aspect of our Antarctica Cruise. Getting to explore ashore or on a zodiac and then returning to our sailing yacht's comforts made this trip easier on our not-so-adventurous bodies.
The food on Atlas Ocean Voyages was on par with our previous experiences sailing with a small cruise ship company. Given a maximum of 200 cruisers onboard, we understand there are fewer food options than we are used to being on megaships.
When it came to the onboard enrichment, the expedition on our Atlas Ocean Voyages Antarctica cruise was terrific. They really made the trip from the daily sessions and recap to their professionalism and support ashore. This was one aspect of the cruise where World Voyager shined for us.
While we liked the enrichment there could have been more onboard activities and events as there is a lot of downtime in between outings on an Antarctica Cruise. Perhaps some more non-guided entertainment like a library, game room, or other edutainment.
Still, we are so glad we did this trip, as it was a bucket list item, and Atlas Ocean Voyages did a fantastic job.

We already did! We went on the Ocean Endeavour, last year which I suspect had a larger Expedition crew as we got both a Zodiac Cruise and a Landing most mornings and afternoons, so half in Zodiacs and half on land.
Your cruise seemed very expensive compared to what we paid, but I suspect that was because of the brand new ship. I was interested to see you miss on-board entertainment. We seemed to have very little downtime as we were out most days for a at least a couple of hours morning and afternoon, so it was eat sleep and explore (repeat). Our trip even had a wedding onboard. My recommendation to anyone selecting a cruise is to check the number of Zodiacs and the number of expedition crew. Our cruise had 140 passengers to 30 expedition crew. If possible I would also recommend at least a 14 day cruise, you get a better balance of sea days to activity days.

We took a 15 day Viking Expedition ship to Antarctica abut 2 years. It was awesome. Viking planned it well. It was about $10,000 per person. They booked our airfare, our transportation, everything we needed, Viking provided. We didn’t do a polar plunge. The waves were too big. The ship even had a 6 person submarine which we got to use twice. We got to land abut 4 times at various islands. There were about 350 people on board so it wasn’t crowded at all. We had movies, speakers that talked about the geology, animals, weather, etc. Restaurants abounded. Even sushi and sashimi. There was a small combo of violin, piano, guitar. We had a great time. No seasickness. We leave on another Viking cruise next month to Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. I’m looking forward to it.

We're in our 60's, and did Antarctica in Dec 2021 with Silversea. Ok, that's a high-end way to go, but
    a) they appeared to us to be the best regarding all of the pre-embarkation logistics, and
    b) they offered an "Antarctic Bridge" option which involved roundtrip charter flights from Punta Arenas to King George Island, thus avoiding the volatile Drake Passage.
My wife has a propensity for sea sickness, and we were unsure if her patches would compensate for the then-hurricane force wind-whipped seas of the Drake - best to not ruin a pricey vacation with the potential for two days of misery crossing the Drake to start our Antarctic adventure.
On our sailing, all of the gear (boots, water proof overpants, poles & parka) was part of the fare - thus, making packing for the trip FAR easier. Our pre-embarkation involved a flight from Houston to Santiago, followed by a charter to Punta Arenas, then another charter to King George Island. The above-mentioned essential gear was provided to us in Punta Arenas before departing on the charter for King George Island - we changed into the gear aboard that flight (not exactly optimal, but we managed). On arrival on King George Island, our embarkation adventure began with a 1.3 mile trek from the airfield downhill to the water's edge where we boarded Zodiacs to be ferried to the ship. (Btw, that 1.3 mile trek is uphill when the sailing ends and you're landed to trek back to the airfield.) The expedition team was very good with daily debriefs and enrichment lectures.
My only counsel - if you desire to go to Antarctica, DO SO AS SOON AS YOU CAN . . . i.e., don't wait until you're older and less ambulatory. To fully enjoy the shore experiences (which ALL occur via Zodiac landings and involve trekking thru snow), you need to be able to get around on your own. There aren't enough cruise line employees to escort you individually if you're mobility-challenged - so, if you are so-challenged and still wish to go, build into the cost of your cruise hiring & bringing along your own private aid to help you get around on shore landings. Oh, and one more thing, you thoroughly wash the exterior of your boots after each landing - and they're so bulky, we couldn't wait to get them off upon reboarding the ship after a landing - each took a pair of (what our grandkids call) "slides" to slip into after taking off our boots in the equipping area.

We made a trip to Antarctica with a competition line. There are many to chose from and range from a former science ship to a luxury ship with butlers. There are tour companies that will plan your trip, but most of them contract with the different lines going there anyway. Most have the same set-up...some start in Chile and some start in Argentina. Buenos Aires is beautiful but Patagonia in the south is breath-taking and worth an extension. The naturalist on board do a good job of preparing you for landing and will brief and de-brief you so you understand what you see. It is the closest one can come to traveling to another planet. It takes two days to cross the Drake Strait which is some of the roughest waters in the world, but well worth the rocking and rolling to see Antarctica. Because of changing weather, the crew may give you Plan A for the landing which quickly becomes Plan B or Plan C if the winds are too strong or waves too big. Some bigger cruises ships advertise they go to Antarctica but they just sail by because they carry too many passengers to make landings...but if you are going to travel that far and put up with the Drake Shake, you want to "put boots on the ground." Not every line does the Polar dive, but they all try to give you two excursions per day once you get "South."

Sounds like flexibility with the itinerary is a must for these types of adventure voyages. At least you actually got to go to Antarctica unlike NCL that changed the itinerary on embarkation day to exclude Antarctica. No inclemencies though, just a go slow order regarding whale migration. Year right, the go slow order was issued two years or more ago. Dint think I’d have that kind of flexibility.

Could care less about the cruise amenities…because if that is a priority, there are 100’s of cruises that probably offer better amenities, at less expense. Just my opinion but going to Antarctica is hardly a voyage to mars. Lots of people do and these people are making way too much fuss about it. Also spending all the money to go on an uber luxury is a waste of money since you go to Antarctica for what is outside of the ship and not for fancy stuff inside the ship. You can do Antarctica very well for half of what these people spent.

My main goal on a cruise . . . enjoy doing nothing, eat good food constantly, always have a drink in my hand . . . and cruise sex lol.
