The first time I heard Alfred Brendel, I was a teenager living in a little city in the interior of Salvador-Bahia. The TH-cam algorithm suggested his video playing the last three Sonatas of Schubert. How could the audience laugh so little.... Listening to Brendel speaking is almost as pleasant as listening to him playing.
No microphones, I think they did laugh and that's why he sometimes paused.
