      Biodiversity wise, Lakshadweep Island and Andaman and Nicobar both are truly rich....and last but not the least, Rameshwaram. • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Really appreciate that. I used to shoot with a Sony for many years and especially pre a7s3 the color science was not great. Depending on the water color / conditions, it’s a mix of red filters, log profiles and constantly white balancing at different depth to get the colors to where I like them! My findings was that each camera brand needs help in a different way. What are you shooting?

    • @davidedebenedictis
      @davidedebenedictis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DiveHard I'm fond of Panasonic. I currently have a GH5. I find the format to be a great compromise of quality and size for technical diving.
      I had a Sony A7S and hated the colors and usability. Now they are great but I find the colors on the Panasonic to be better. Sure the smaller sensor... But when I see the Canon colors I fall in love. I recognize them at first sight.
      I saw your old video on French Polynesia and the blacks were all flat. For a moment I thought: wow what progress you've made with the CC but then I realized it was shot with the GH5. 🤣
      I find your new v-logging style format very original for these underwater trip reports. Bravo.
      Given your skills you could integrate the space between trips with some videos on equipment, camera technique, etc...
      Good luck

      @@davidedebenedictis thank you Davide! I do love Panasonic as well, and I want to like the Sony’s but I too hate the color science. Even the newer ones - I prefer older canon cameras to the newest fancy Sony tech. Wondering what Panasonic will do with the GH6…

    Amazing trip. I’m going in 2 months same route, same liveaboard. Was the rental 7mm enough to feel comfortable? Or you would rather recommend to use something warmer like semi-dry.

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sure you will have a great time, it really is an amazing trip. I used my own 7mm and I was very cold on many dives in the south. I would probably recommend a semi dry or open cell just to be safe. Many divers (including guides) bring a dry suit for the non- wolf and Darwin portion of the trip

    I'm trying to plan a trip to either Galapagos or Malpelo in a couple years. If you could only choose one, and don't know when or if ever you could swing doing the other, which would you choose?

      Thank you! It’s an impossible question to answer…. But seeing that you are already a cold water diver, I think Galapagos would be a solid choice. If you can august - October are very good months. But, you never know what the ocean will give you, and every time is different. One this is for sure: you can’t go wrong with either one!

    Great video, and amazing tips in the comments, thank you! another question, what lenses you suggest to use? 24-70mm F2.8, or better 17-28mm F2,8 , both? i am not sure what to buy, bring to the same trip... other option? thanks in advance

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! 🙏🏽 I use a variety of set ups depending on the location but for Galapagos I think the 17-28 + dome on a full frame would cover most of what you want for underwater wide angle. I think I used a 16-35 f4 for this trip. Sensors are so good these days you could also get away with a crop to extend the reach a bit since animals can be shy. I also always bring a 24-70 for top side which you might miss having in the Galapagos. Sometimes I dive with it behind a dome but that’s usually only in calm conditions / high viz which is unlikely in Galapagos. Have an awesome time 🤙🏽

    Fantastic video. Did you end up selling the 1D X II and mind me asking what you are filming with instead? I'm an experienced diver just getting into UV videography for a circumnavigation (without breaking the bank...) and just wanted to ask if you'd recommend getting something like the 1D X II with housing used or a A6700 / A7 IV etc that would also be extremely useful topside when traveling. 4k 60 is the requirement.

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! 🙏🏽 I did sell the 1DX2 and I replaced it with a 1DX3… which served me well but is also now for sale since I changed yet again to an R5 since I had a project requiring 8K 60p raw. I don’t recommend shooting in 8k raw (since it’s a ton of data and compute that you need to edit) and agree 4k60 is the sweet spot. I used to shoot Sonys but I don’t love their color science though they have gotten much better. If you’re interested in the 1dx3 + nauticam housing shoot me an email. Cheers! 🤙🏽

      this is a painful question. I did not do this dive, but others did. there were many molas in great visibility. there was also an orca with a turtle in its mouth. But did get to do a topside 'orca rodeo', which was also a ton of fun while others were diving. but still regret skipping this dive. neptune was making a point re: skipping cold dives.

    Amazing video with excellent quality. May I ask several questions? Which drone, camera, videlights do you use, as well as which editing SW? Do you do the white balance under water with red filter attached to camera or not? Do you use also blue filters on video lights when red filter is attached? Where do you get the nice audio effects such as the shark movement at min 0:43? Do you have a link to a sound effect library for underwater? Thanks a lot!

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Christoph! Happy to answer: drone is mavic air 2s, camera is canon c70, mostly using ambient light with red filter screwed on lens (video lights scare the hammerheads), I white balance all the time (every 5 meter) and I hate doing it but it is usually worth it. When I use red filters with lights I do use cyan lights /30000k. Audio is mostly from epidemic sound which has great music tracks and huge library of sound effects! Cheers!!!

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a tricky one! My computer registered temps ranging from 23C down to 14C depending where we were diving. Wolf and Darwin are fine in a healthy 5mm / 7mm (warm due to panama current) and the other dives are quite cold (dry suit, open cell or semi dry probably better than standard 7mm). A lot of folks swear by the heated vests but the dry suit folks were definitely the most comfortable. Next time I’m bringing my 9mm open cell freediving suit

    • @masterscubaman
