The problem with the big statement on (be selfish) is that selfishness also means:
- Having no empathy for the sufferings of others
- Having no regard for how your behavior impacts others
- Always asking for favors but never repaying them
- Your kindness comes with a price
- Using others to get what you want
- Not giving back to others
Empathy is a good thing, it improves communication by being able to understand the feelings of others. It helps you to effectively lead and inspire others and anticipate the needs of clients.
Your rule is: Never negatively impact somebody else's life.
But selfishness in it's self means to have no awareness or to not care about others, like a lifeless creature. So you negatively impact others without even knowing or caring. That's the problem with the theory (be selfish).
It's the same as saying: Don't give a flying shit about others but try not to hurt them in the process.
How can you not care and try not to negatively impact them? If you don't want to negatively impact others lives, you care about them. It's counter intuitive.
There is a difference between, put yourself first and be selfish.
A person can put themselves first whilst still caring a lot for others. And that's the best way to be. A strong man takes risks, confidence, strength, power... to save others even while putting himself at risk of death. If you are selfish you let loved ones die for you to not take even the slightest risk of death while trying to save them. I would rather die a good man than live a coward- that's pride, which is another trait you mention is good, and is also completely counter intuitive to selfishness.
Austin you have power and influence with all these followers, it's a complicated topic, so be weary with your words. Don't bring evil into this world, I know you mean no harm. And are trying to improve lives.
Keep your purpose close to your heart. The universe gives you power to see if you can control it.
