    I have one of those motors, and I have been using it for years on my pontoon boat. I plumbed in a secondary gas tank on mine and it draws the gas in as I go so there is never a need to stop and fuel. That was the biggest pain ever since the tank on the motor is tiny. I have a video about it on my channel, however, it is in Russian. If you would like I can make a video about how I made up a secondary jerry can gas tank. There is no electricity involved it just works on suction, and it works awesome!!

      Aluminum boat the buttered backups but if you had a little homemade driver bolt have been nice little trunk trying to get to your spot motor. No water skiing.

    I opted for the 2 stroke wet version because the exhaust goes down under the waterline so it’s significantly quieter.. not fast by any means but it’ll do the job

    I put this exact same motor on my kayak mounted between the outrigger and the kayak.
    I cut shortened and welded the shaft around 7'' shorter as it was way to long for what I needed. I also put a custom made exhaust extension that points the exhaust out and away from your ears, as you mentioned it is damn noisy.
    Half of the trouble with this little motor is, the plastic propeller flexes, you can upgrade the propeller to a cast aluminium one for under $30.00 and you will get a little more speed, around 15 kls ph top speed. The motor is very reliable but sucks a lot of juice, on a calm day out in the kayak I will only get around two kilometers out of a tank.
    This little motor is great for a kayak as it's light, a proper 2 to 4hp outboard motor is way to heavy for my kayak and this no brand is 5 times cheaper.

    That's the same engine/clutch assembly I have on my post hole auger and it has worked flawlessly for 10 years. Just run the gas out of it at the end of the season so the carb doesn't get gummy.

      Mark Osborne - Well said. I would just had a small detail that I never miss.
      When finishing the gas and engine stopping squirt some WD40 or similar into the intake. Next season had gas and enjoy. :-)

    • @loooseunit
      @loooseunit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep , you got that right .
      Just spent half a day cleaning out my Mariner outboard (1970's) carb after leaving it for 10 months.
      The old fuel had eaten into the fuel bowl and left a coating of AL oxide , god only knows what they're sticking in fuel these days .

    • @crpth1
      @crpth1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just as a curiosity. A few hours ago I took the dust and spider webs from my preferred toy. A 50cc moped that haven't been started since last year (Summer).
      Thankfully for me I follow my own advise. I simply open the fuel petcock shake it a bit to start the fuel flow. After a couple of kicks there she was back to all it's 50cc 2 stroke glory.
      The ritual never failed in this past 3 years. BTW the mix has 2 stroke synthetic other than that it's the fuel from last year. ;-)

    I purchased this motor new, this is not a salt water motor to begin with, a week after having it the throttle cable broke, one of the mounting brackets broke and the exhaust came loose after four hours of use.

    @Perry-ck1hv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I see a design flaw already the exhaust is pointing straight up in the Run position so if you're caught in the rain or you leave it outside in the rain your exhaust will fill with water into your piston you get the idea.

  • @jamesexploringonline872

    Can see a good reason for the speed your able to obtain, I think it has alot more to do with your aerodynamic hair cut.
    I'm certain should you of removed you sunnys you would gain more speed.
    Over all great presentation, definitely good value for money.

  • @1973chrisg

    • @alanwareham7391
      @alanwareham7391 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For that sort of money you can’t really condemn that little out board and if your happy with it then fair enough , but I would sooner go for a decent seagull silver century ,I know that they are an old motor now but the spares are still readily available and looked after they will last for years

    of course this is a large weed whacker motor, with a bicycle twist grip control, and an OB lower unit. Tanaka made an even smaller OB ( 30 cc) using what was then a bicycle motor ( bike bug) in the 70's. The noise is opressive.. but it works.

    1.) You never rev brand new engine. It needs at least 10 minutes of working on idle. After that you usually need to break in engine for 8-10 hours.
    2.) You don't rev engine without any load !

    Small air cooled 2 strokes hate constant high RPM.
    I’d be impressed to see how long this engine would last in this sort of application.

    • @caninparks4928
      @caninparks4928 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quakes Outdoor Adventures air cooled 2 strokes run great at varying high and low rpms. But sustained high rpms generate more more heat than air cooled 2 strokes can dissipate. That’s why pretty much all 2 stroke outboards are water cooled. Because boats require constant high RPM

    how hard is it to replace the propeller and are they readily available, is there a sheer pin or dose it rely on the clutch as a safety,
    Victor lawn mower years back made two styles of outboard motors, using the good old reliable two stroke motor, they had a propeller unit, and they also had a pump jet unit, the propeller version would push a 14" bond wood boat a little faster than rowing, probably 5 knots at best. I would like to see a 10 hour review, not sure how a free running motor will last whilst under continual load, as it is when pushing through water. good video hope to see more.

      There easy to get off (just a pin/screw to remove) but i havnt found a plastic replacement propeller to suit it yet only the alloy ones. Yes a replacement plastic prop is hard to find, but so far mine is still going fine so Ill cross that bridge when or if i ever break this prop.

  • @tomjones7593
    @tomjones7593 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've ordered one-delivery awaited. Thanks for a good review
    I don't expect high quality or quietness but;
    I only need it for fishing a tidal bay and some freshwater lake fishing in the UK;
    I wont be trolling so I think I can stand the noise for the time required to get me to my fishing spots
    I want lightness so I have chosen 2 stroke over 4 stroke
    I want simplicity-so 2 stroke again
    I don't think it's reasonable to expect a cheap chinese motor to survive saltwater use if it's water cooled so I wanted air-cooling (I've owned Johnson/Evinrude/Tohatsu/British Seagull etc over the years)
    Lastly-and this remains to be seen- since much of my fishing is done in shallow water the absence of an underwater exhaust should mean less noise/disturbance (To the fish !) - though obviously not as good as an electric motor
    We shall see!
    If anyone wants an update click a like/reply and I will try to oblige

    • @trevking3772
      @trevking3772 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      PS...noticed the exhaust is exiting upwards - take to General engineers or fab a pipe to exit with a little muffler or better a tuned expansion chamber to route down & exit under water like TAS Tanaka 1.2 or 2.5 hp. T☺ u should be able to build 1 & quietin down significantly ..- i'd say its making just over 1 hp - tell by size of prop & gearing. Cheer mats Trev.do what i suggest & youll get results hearing u can't get back - that around 100 db full throttle - too much.

    So at 1 liter per 45 minutes, its MARGINALLY more fuel efficient than my 75Hp Merc 2 stroke pushing my 26 footer along at 5 to 6 knots, we use around 2 1/2 liters per hour at that speed. However these look like a great cheap way of getting on the water (the Merc was around $10,000), just wondering if you could put a additional muffler on to cut some of the noise down, I would imagine it would get annoying after a very short time

    The biggest problem with this motor is the noise (it's loud - too loud for noise restricted areas) and low performance versus price. Top speed, not the slower continuous cruising speed, averages about 3mph - about as fast as the typical person walks. Could take a long time to cross that lake or travel that river.

      dentray it doesn’t sound like the motor in the vid is under much of a load so a prop with more pitch might give more speed.

    thanks for that . good review . I am looking for something to put on the back of a canoe I have cut the back off to make it a square back . seems a bit slow and noisey? . I am now looking at a 4HP very much like that one .

    • @bobbyowen8716
      @bobbyowen8716 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spend a little more and get a longtail kit. Pick your required HP and put a Honda or clone. Probably the best power per dollar and a real benifit is their shallow water and debris, mud etc ability. You can power boats with both ends pointed with a little fabrication and no need to install a transom.
