1.59.08 for Rose - 2nd fastest in NCAA History behind Athing Mu, but gotta learn to close off that inside lane completely regardless of fatigue! Rose vs Whittaker vs Willis will be a lot of fun this season! So much depth in US W800m!

      @@JCJeffrey Wrong on all counts.
There was no contact between the two. Rose moved from the outside of the lane to the middle towards the end. Hiltz had to twist her upper body to avoid contact at the finish line which is why Hiltz fell. How can you be a middle distance fan and not know who Hiltz is? Hiltz was assigned female at birth and came out as non-binary 2 years ago.

An announcer has to be able to use basic descriptive language without "offending" a loud but microscopic group of online narcissists. Who the hell cares how Hiltz identifies, and identifying as a plurality like you are the freaking holy trinity is silliness personified. People’s sexual preferences and feelings about their gender don’t need to be shared with spectators. It’s distracting. We are watching women run against other women, which is fair, and that’s all we need to know. We don’t refer to them by their religious or political beliefs, and likewise don’t need to hear unnecessary information about their belief on gender. Restricting the event to those of equal opportunities based on the amount of testosterone and muscle mass and bone structure (aka women vs men) is the only way to give women an equal opportunity to make money as pros without men pushing them out. Since Hiltz is female, we don’t need to hear anything else about her sexual beliefs about herself. If she is offended to be referred to as the gender she is competing with, she should start her own races with binary women and just compete with them.

Great of you to weigh in with your opinion without knowing any facts. Nikki was born female, identifies now as both non-binary and transgender. Nikki doesn't take any exogenous testosterone and wouldn't be allowed to anyway under the rules for World Athletics and the IOC.

It would make much more sense to refer to Hilz as "it" rather than they/them. At least we wouldn't be confused and think the announcer was referring to more than one person. "It's catching up to her. It passed her at the line." See how much simpler "it" would be?

Traditionally they is used for multiple people or an unknown individual. When it's a known individual the he or she is used. I think what we need are new words for gender since he/she/they already have their usages.
