Well, thank you for that, I had the same problem with mine and fixed it with your video. My generator was tested for a couple minutes after I bought it, and then it sat unused for two-plus years. Then it would start just for a brief moment and die. And if I tried after that, it would crank without any sign of life until many hours later when a little fuel got past the blockage.
I found some short-cuts to the procedure that some of your viewers might benefit from:
Instead of pulling off the fuel line @11:50 , I cracked open the screw on the fuel bowl and looked for fuel in the drain line (the smaller clear tubing, not the pink-ish one). It told me the bowl did indeed have fuel, and it looked like clean gas. But, like yours, it doesn't tell you if fuel is getting further into the venturi.
You can disconnect the 2-pin Molex connector to the fuel tank sending unit, and pull the gas tank off to one side (to the pull-start side) so it won't gravity feed the carb bowl. No need to pinch the hose.
Plus, you can disconnect the black PCV line at the carb air intake elbow easier than from the valve cover side, which requires removing a clamp. It pulls right off.
The wire I used to clean the jet was a RN60 resistor lead. It just barely fit, and measures 0.026" or about 0.66mm. The shroud fasteners are all 3mm hex. The selector knob is 2mm hex. And the carb and air filter are all 10mm nuts or bolts.
I suppose if we disconnect the kill switch on the 3-way selector, then when we switch to the "off position," it would burn off the gas in the bowl before shutting itself down. This would be better for long term storage, but it also has some negative safety consequences if you leave it that way all the time. Too bad disconnecting the kill-switch requires so much time to pull off all the shrouds to get to those Molex connectors.
Thanks again for posting this.My sp

I bought this unit from a family member that worked there 5 years ago .. been sitting NIB in my garages in the three homes I've lived in since then .. tried to start it last week for the first time during a bird hunt and got nothing .. when I got home I discovered I literally had the EXACT same problem!! My bowl was a touch cleaner, but the exact same hole was clogged ..Cleaned out the exact same hole... Started right up!!!
.. my edit .. a shirt cut to fuel switch troubleshoot .. open the carb bowl drain into a bottle, cycle the switch from run to off while fuel is draining, the fuel should stop draining when switch is off.

I have the same generator, while in use it turned off and never turned back on. The pull start is hard to pull, and still hard when the spark plug is removed. So, I am guessing the "generator" portion of the engine is the cause of the drag on the pull start. Is the issue serviceable?
I have spark and oil, and spark plug looked normal for its use. Any suggestions? Thank you, great video BTW

Fantastic video! While attempting to get familiarize with my new generator, I wasn't able to pry apart the outer shell/ panels like you did to access the carburator despite removing all the screws located on both sides of the handle, all screws on the side panel where air filter and carburator is located, the bottom 3 Allen bolts on that same side, and all the perameter screws on the front control and back exhaust panel.
What am I missing? My unit is of a different brand, but inside layout looks very similar to yours. I did not touch the smaller screws on the face of the control board, nor the bottom 3 Allen bolts located on opposite panel of the air filter. Is there something I need to loosen or unhook from the inside? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Since you seem to be the only person knowledgeable ive found regarding this generator (if you even still own it) i have a question. Is the idle entirely controlled by the stepper motor? The actual cable is simply for choke. My iq2000 will not idle up when a load is applied, nor does idle change when adjusting the 3 pos rocker switch for standard, turbo, economy. Im leaning toward stepper motor as my little power indicator light up front is green and the unit is providing some electricity, though not much. I havent verified how many volts with a meter yet, but when hooled up to a window unit the generator doesnt shut down, the fan on the AC simply blows at a very low speed.

A spark arrestor screen captures hot carbon deposits coming from the exhaust. It blocks the deposits from exiting the hot muffler and potentially igniting dry fuels. Dry fuels such as dead leaves, dry pine needles and dry grass. It's a requirement per the National Forestry Service. You will always have hot burning gasses inside a working muffler. Some mufflers also include a catalyst inside or catalytic converter. Makes small engines meet new stringent EPA requirements.

I drop the bowl instead of removing carb. I find 90% of fuel problems with fuel float valve clogged with FOD, rust, gummed fuel etc. Compressed air can clean jets but some carbs. have diaphams that could rupture by using too high air pressure from your air gun.

Yep. Add strong gas cleaner, drop bowl and clean and then choke fully and try to start until gunk gets dissolved.

Is a stuck fuel float valve issue indicitive of the red low fuel light coming on and the power bar and fuel level illumination flickering? I’m having that issue. My generator works fine, just has the flickering lights issue.

A little shot of either would of made this process faster, also un hooking the fuel lines.

Enjoyed the vider. One of the problems, which Honda has mitigated is the micro switch that shuts the engine off before the carburetor can burn off excess fuel. Honda has a shut off setting on the EU2200 where you can shut off the fuel flow before you shut down the generator so there is very little fuel left in the carb after shut down. In my Briggs and Stratton 2200 I disconnected the micro switch and installed a toggle switch for quick shut down for refueling. Otherwise I turn the fuel valve off and let it run the fuel out of the carb.

It's best to let the engine almost run dry, to the point where it starts to stumble, then spray in wd-40 to keep it running an extra 15 seconds. Thanks for watching!

I have a yamaha EF1000IS, every 7 days it would stop running due to fuel getting restricted going into the carby, turns out I had to remove the needle in the carby and blow out this crap that formed blocking the flow, this time i removed the fuel tank, turns out the filter thats meant to filter the fuel is not tight enough to make a seal letting the particles to just flow stopping just before the seat inlet, something so simple, you had one job yamaha and someone stuffed up installing an undersized filter in the tank.

@@electronicsNmore Yamaha informs me that they designed it this way and also to put an inline filter on the generator, the filter is 5.7mm and the fuel tank hole is 6.1mm making the loose gap of 0.4mm letting particles past, yamaha blames me for dirty fuel even though It's clean and filters via the top filter under the cap, also states that fuel should be filtered again before filling the tank from the fuel can, Passing the buck on a failed design.

FYI..That was no floor model.. It was a used model ..probably a return .. That unit was fueled up and used thats why you had the crud in the carb bowl.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I called the company and was told a small amount of fuel remains in the bowl after testing. There was no sign of heat discoloration on any exhaust parts, which is an impossibility for a "used" unit.

I guessed it was a clogged carburetor.
Just because it was never used, does not mean it never had gas that went bad.
I would have simply used straight fuel cleaner, choke it fully and just try to start it until the cleaner starts to break the gunk.
