  • Andrew was recently sent a new tool to try out. It is a new tool developed for sharpening beading tools. Setters who use beading tools all the time know just how time consuming getting the tip if each tool can be . This new tool makes this process very easy and quick.

    Hey there, Andrew! I just wanted to take the time to thank you for all that you put out into the maker and smithing community by educating so many of us. I am a baby silversmith, and was able to FINALLY successfully solder my first ever bezel this evening because of YOU. I am now wearing it proudly, and want to never take it off. Thank you so so so very much for sharing so very much with us. I appreciate you more than words can express.

    First, thanks so much for all your videos. I've learned so much!
    Would you be able to do a video showing how to make a brooch? I have some designs I'm excited to make, but the pin back has me perplexed 🤔

    I'm glad to have seen such a good and clear demonstration of this tool, thank you for it! It was instructive and enlightening.
    You asked for suggestions for other tools we'd like to see tested. I'd be glad to see you demonstrate the tools developed by Vitalij Krikuk for sharpening beading tools as they are a good bit less expensive and seem to do the job equally well.
    Another device I'm curious about is the crinkle rolling mill. There seems to be 2 versions, one more expensive than the other but they seem quite similar on pictures. Without outside advice I'd wait till I see them with my own eyes to make a decision, but they are not available at stores in my area.
    I've seen a jeweler doing quite interesting and beautiful woven silver inserts in his pieces, that had to be created using this type of device.

      Annie Girard, what crinkle mills are you referring to? I’m interested, too.

    • @Annie59G
      @Annie59G 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jld.itsjane9479 They are available from many jewelry tools distributors. Some are possibly made in India.

      Annie Girard Not finding “Crinkle Mill” by googling. Are you referring to corrugating mills?

    • @Annie59G
      @Annie59G 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jld.itsjane9479 Exactly! Sorry for the confusion.
      I just made a new search with these words. Very interesting. I saw more models and sources than I had seen on different US jewelry distributors websites. Some machines have steel rollers, some have plastic rollers. Some remind me of a tube wringer I used for oil painting. Durston even makes one, but the teeth are quite large, so this certainly is not what that jeweler I know used. The width of each of his folds was about 1 to 1.2mm. He made narrow strips of corrugated silver sheet which he wove with what seemed to be 0.8mm wire for some very intriguing surface treatment.
      I discovered that Andrew Berry reviewed the Durston mill in 2013 and that other jewelers have reviewed different models too.

    Clearly I don't use my Beading tools enough, I have not seen the tool , my concern is the diamond would be extremely easy to damage (Break/Chip) I wonder if a less expensive option maybe a Tungsten cutter

      I've seen another tool, sold by Vitalij Krikuk. It is a set of what seems to be tungsten cutters that can be resharpened. Seems easy enough to use and is less expensive too. Hopefully Andrew Berry will demonstrate these some day!

      Have a look at a brand new bit under magnification so you can see the angles and direction of the cutting plane. A wheel much like used in the video and you're good to go. I find the 006 and 008 bits work much better the shorter they get.

    I watch your vids with great interest
    I started to get interested on jewellery making andfor the next year i will attend some silversmiths course
    Now...i came across some interesting jewels that has been oxidaised to a black color
    I think they're absolutely gorgeous on pics but i couldnt find many information about how safely oxidised metal are when you wear them
    Also I'd like more informations on metals in general ...i mean ...i know copper and zinc are added to a silver to make sterling ...i also read there's oter metals that you can add instead to make sure that the silver not oxidise (germanium) and so on
    I'm sure you can provide many useful information on how the different metals are used in jewellery .
    I hope you understand what i mean.
    Thank you

    The link doesn’t work. You mentioned carbide ball burs do the same? Any other ideas how to sharpen? Maybe a tool I can create? Maybe another video would be good if you do have any other options for me and Us. Thank you Andrew! Watching your graver machine video next. Hand graving now but definitely want to go with power gravers. Getting older and hands are very sore when done. Take Care!
