- Corner Pocket is one of several charts that arranger Ernie Wilkins "appropriated" from the Count Basie Band for Harry James.
Nonetheless, the band's interpretation of Freddie Green's classic tune is in the pocket.
The James version, "stolen" by Ernie Wilkins, differs slightly in some early brass figures, and some of the voicing. Jack Perciful plays the intro, Corky Corcoran takes a tenor solo, Dave Robbins plays a trombone solo . Then Harry plays a great solo.
How many times Sonny Payne played this tune. But he rocks here!
